How to Fix a Stuck Valve on a Small Engine

- In hindsight I feel like You don't need to take the head off to clean and unstick this valve but this makes sure you get a perfect seal. Do it once by taking off the head of your small engine and you can get the valve unstuck easy.

The asphalt is doing wonders for the finely machined head.
Finely machined my ass
@@RepairGang haaa nice
Thank you for actually showing how to do this. 100z of videos show you how to check for this problem. Few show how to fix it
Excellent repair, thanks
Generators normally start on the 3rd pull? Less on the 2nd pull start & rarely on the 1st start?
Good lesson. After the 2nd round of hammer action I would have figured the valve would have been bent and not realized more cleaning and force was necessary. But that's just me not knowing shit about small engine repair, but I know a lot about old gas and shitty gas gumming up carburetors. lol. Thanks for the info.
Yeah I have a tool to do it but I like to show people you can do without fancy tools but I should have used a dead blow hammer and not a framing hammer
I had a feeling it wasn't going to look good when you opened the air filter. Oh man that is pretty much stuck in there. That is a tight spot. You got it cause your a badass 😂👍Well I think $150 to $200 is reasonable for all you got to go through. I really don't know how much I would charge I'm glad you didn't have to take the valve off. Oh yea that stuff came out and what a difference when you push it down. I can see why that was a pain. Oh yea runs nice. Wow 3 machines definitely made some good money. Nice job Andrew.
I got 150 not a bad gig
@@RepairGang That isn't bad at all.
And it runs hey man great job thanks for sharing !
I'm glad I got that shit running
thanks I was very helpful
So if only liquid gas Lp is used then no chance or less chance of stuck valve?
Most of the time, yes, that is correct
What's your opinion on gas additives like sea foam. Could using additives keep this from happening?
A lot of gas additives in my opinion are snake oil but seafoam actually is pretty good but it's not going to guarantee that this won't happen. You can still use it though. It's just oily so be careful how much you use
Whats the torque settings for the head bolts?
I got a question for you. I got a harbor freight 212 predator non-hemi that keeps wanting to after fire through the carburetor and shear pin or sheer key isn’t sheared on the flywheel and I’ve been adjusting the mess out the lash. I’m throwing my hands up in there at the moment, give me any pointers
this was a good video for me because i just yesterday had my mower start popping and backfiring but still running so i am assuming it is just sticking.... any comments would be very welcome
Wow that was one stuck intake valve. I thought the hammer would have got it right away but just alot of carbon buildup good job
Yeah it happens over time but mostly when people leave it sitting
hello sir great job love form pakistan
Thank you for watching my guy 🙂 hope all is well with the small engines down there
My parents have a stuck valve on their riding mower that has a b&s engine. Would I do the same steps you just did? One of the valves doesn't move at all. When I opened the valve cover the bottom valve was just lose and the push bar was just sitting there.
Get it done! 💪
#engineershatemechanics Wish we could have one job that didn't grow legs...just once!🤣 Thanks for the tutorial.
Lol
@@RepairGang a million bucks seems fair too...😎
Well dine. That fought you every inch of the way.

BTW I'll have my membership renewed next week. This economy is crippling! My bad, bro!
I appreciate it but you don't need to my man
@@RepairGang I know, but I will anyway lol. Make sure you catch our show this coming Tuesday. We will be having a special guest that has a rather large presence in the UA-cam community.
@@RepairGang It will be Tuesday at 12:30pm (CST). I'll have the show page up by the end of the day.
@@FatherhoodAndFitness yeah I like to come into your live streams. I'll be there on Tuesday
@@RepairGang I appreciate it, man!
It would’ve been easy. However, I just dropped the socket into the generator and I need it to get it out… 😂
Oh boy
To set the gap on my generator all the way tight is way to loose by a 8th inch on the in take side
Look at All that carbon on that Head 😧😧
It was pretty built up
@@RepairGang yes it was a big build up
In 57 years of mechanic work I’ve never ever seen the amount of carbon in these new engines
It’s got to be the dam gas and corn crap
It was a good job, but please next time just a table 😂
I just posted another stuck valve used table 😂😂😂😂
Is that a Dark Souls tat?
Yes sir
Dont worry folks youll be back here really soon for a new head gasket
I am so appalled that you would do this on the ground with head faces in the blue metal.
Absolutely demoralising when your looking on here for help and this is what you get
@@nasigoreng553 it works in a pinch I say that on the video 😂 if your 50 miles out by the well fixing your generator don't always have a work bench ready
40 pounds on a generator if no parts to buy
Not a good practice to put a machined surface on solid ground and pounding on it. Been OSE certified for years and not once have I ever seen someone be this careless
Now you have lol
I had the same reaction as you. A brass drift punch would be a much better choice for banging on a valve stem. Be like a doctor and Do no harm!
At least could show how you put it back
I just lost my time watching you emptying a can of carb cleaner😅
I swear I didn't. I must have messed that part I apologize
Wow!
Your crude
sorry
beating head on asphalt 😃😃😃👍 Cool
The best way
So why do the exhaust valves get stuck anyway
Bad gas sitting in it
@@RepairGang Dont believe that ,I use leaded aircraft fuel
@@kiwiroy48 aviation fuel is kerosene based which has oil. So as soon as the petroleum evaporates it leaves behind the kerosene which can still gum up That's why the intake was stuck, not the exhaust depending on the engine, some fuels can hit the exhaust but most exhaust gets stuck due to heat and carbon
I certainly hope you replaced the head gasket ?
Why
One time use only
