    We DOUBLIN'!!!!
So yeah, Low Effort Woodwind Doubling...(L.E.W.D. ....heh heh) it's not really a series getting too deep into technical aspects or repertoire. It's more about finding different woodwinds and their unique voices and having fun watching me stumble around my words talking about how awesome they are, and what your average run-of-the-mill creative musician could use them for!
This episode, We talk a bit about the Sopranino sax and how to find a decent one at a reasonable price and how to set it up!
We jump around quite a bit...I don't use a script so everything is kind of a stream of consciousness type of thing, be we get there in the end!
JAZZLORD: (n) A gender-neutral honorific describing anyone who is an enthusiast of the music (player or not...doesn't matter) and isn't a giant, steaming bag of cockroach farts about it.

I bought one of these Jinbao sopraninos in 2016. I do love it and play it often but a modification was required. Relative pitch was always good but it was between a quarter and a half step flat relative to A=440. You might think it’s just me coming from mostly alto but I fixed it. Rather than cutting the horn I modified the mouthpiece so it would go on far enough to play in tune. I had to make a cutaway to avoid touching the octave key. I also got more mouthpieces for about $40 each from John Packer in England. Maybe yours is different or you are just a much better player. Either way I enjoyed your video.

I bought a Jinbao sopranino, and I love it. They are difficult to repair if you have a broken spring, leak, or some other issue.
I had a spring break and some other issues but have gotten most of the bugs out of it. They are so small it's hard to see what your doing. I bought a Yanagisawa 5 mouthpiece used for $180. It's a great little horn so light and quick fingering. I use it to peel the paint off my walls.

Sooo what mouthpiece did you settle on? I unfortunately don’t have the option of testing out a sopranino mouthpiece at a bricks and mortar shop.

@@globetrotterdk I got a selmer s80 d. not many options out there. Yanigisawa makes one, possibly vandoren? I know you could try Syos as well. Other than that, you could have something custom too if you have the cash to spend. Good luck!

Have you had any experience with the curved Sopranino sax and how does it compare sound wise with a straight one?

Hi! I am looking at purchasing a Sopranino. With your Jimbao Sopranino were you able to try it out to make sure it was a decent horn, or did you just go for pot luck? I'm looking at a P. Mauriat, but if I can save some money...??

The vendor on ebay i used did have a 30 trial for the instrument, but every one is different. I got this one almost 2 years ago now so it's probably different.

Who’s the maker again and where can you get one?

This one was made by Jinbao. A chinese maker you find on ebay. They're pretty good for the price and I havent had issues with mine besides some small adjustments after shipping. They make a suprising number of other companies horns that go for WAAAAAAY more then the 600 bucks I paid for mine!
