At the age of 31 after leaving high school 15 years ago. I haven given up my job and went back to college to study mechanical engineering and these videos are helping me massively with understanding a lot of the maths. Thank you.
I already understand this concept, but just wanted to come on here to thank you for your amazing videos. Your videos have been a big help since the start of my high school year. Please continue with uploading such amazing videos, they really help a lot of students!
I find it fascinating how the schools differ from place to place. In America (or at least my state) students learn functions very rushed before tackling lines. Covering them in year 11 after using different functions so that you can extend that idea is interesting.
i love watching this guy. I went to a private school in the UK and my teachers were nowhere near as good as him. I'm 24 now and self teaching myself maths for a career change. Thanks so much for uploading these videos
I would love to see you explain BigO notation in mathematical terms, most people try to oversimplify things to make it more intuitive. But I find it more intuitive when it’s in formulas and equations
I know this was asked a while ago, but if you're still curious: the brackets are usually used when you have a variable being multiplied by something, and need to replace that variable with a number or longer expression. The brackets aren't needed in the a² example because "2a²" already looks like multiplication.
i think this is the beginning of year 11 (15-16 year olds). It should be a subject called math advanced. In australia there are 5 different math courses. Numeracy, Math Standard, math advanced, Math extension 1, and math extension 2, so this is about the middle
Eddie, I hope one day you fully grasp the depths of how far ahead I was and how disgusting and false the narrative that has been cast on my life truly is.
Domain is the allowable set of input values. Usually x or t. Range is the allowable set of output values. Usually y. If not otherwise specified that we are interested in complex numbers, both are limited to the field of real numbers. For instance, this tells us that the domain of y=sqrt(x) excludes negative values of x. The domain and range could be the total set of possible values for the function, or it could be a user-limited set, where only a certain interval of the domain is applicable to the problem you are solving. For instance, even though the domain and range of linear functions in general are both all real numbers, you might only be interested in the domain and range that produces positive values for both, if that is what is applicable to the problem. Common notations you'll use for domain and range: A fancy R for all real numbers Square Bracket notation, for inclusive intervals. For instance, x є [-4, 10] would mean the same thing as -4 ≤ x ≤ 10. Round bracket notation for intervals that exclude the end point. x є (-4, 10) would mean the same thing as -4 < x
This thing in the Indian education system (at least the thing which you taught in this video and the basics) is taught in the 9th grade and the teaching style is way different than how you taught but I like your teaching style more than how it was taught to me at least.
It’s not squared. with f(u-7) you just substitute in (u-7) wherever x is. So 2x+3 becomes 2(u-7) + 3, then you expand out the brackets and it becomes 2u-14+3, then you can simplify to 2u-11
Advanced Math in Australia in year 11 (former 5th Form)??? In Europe “ Advanced Mathematics” starts in year 8 (former 2nd Form) this says a lot about the current level of Australian education
Mate, you don't learn any of that stuff until year 10. Maybe a little like this in year 10 but it doesn't get expanded upon until year 11. Our education system is....interesting

All the best on your journey, fellow learner!
at the age of 31, I have returned to college to study Physics and Mathematics.
I'm 33, and as I work in corporate, I realized my math fundamentals were weak. Coming here to learn.

Big thanks from Sweden!
A more intuitive teaching approach than what I remember from 11th grade with Miss Mars.
Really nicely done. You see questions and misunderstandings as opportunities.

Honestly thank you so much your way of teaching is amazing it helps in be engaged with math you could say
Thankyou professor for the video.
a man with a passion to teach mathematics, thanks sir!
I just love Mr woo explanation
Cheers Man you are great
good teacher! well done
Love your vids!
2:47 is something I didn't realize needed to be explained, but it's indeed not obvious for a beginner who hasn't had much experience with algebra!
I love Mr Woo
I'm writing tomorrow and I knew less about functions before I have watched this video, but now I can even explain it to my 5 year old brother

What is the y² multiplying the f(x) in the bottom of the first half of the board?
I think you misread the term "eg" for y^2.
I'm 15 and I wish I could get taught by him so badly
inspirational
Good object
thx man
What is the difference between f(x) and f ?
I need to link this to linear relationships. any video about it? still a good video
Where to watch all lectures? And wheres the second lecture of functions?

nah indian teachers never taught functions. Very few do that, Its shit anyway
i think substituting f(u-7) = 2(u-7)^2 + 3 is kind of confusing here, anyone here with the same thoughts?
It’s not squared.
with f(u-7) you just substitute in (u-7) wherever x is.
So 2x+3 becomes 2(u-7) + 3,
then you expand out the brackets and it becomes 2u-14+3,
then you can simplify to 2u-11
why would you square (u-7) in the RHS
@@chandanbanakar333 you don’t because it doesn’t say x^2
