Its about Paul Simon’s music / writers block. Cecilia the patron saint on music. After he writes this song, “jubilation! shes loves me again”, because he’s written a song he likes again.
Cecelia is the patron saint of music. Ask her to smile on your channel. Her day is Nov 22. ( my cousin is named for her, and that's her birthday. That's how I know) It's a bouncy track. On this same album S +G play a tribute track of the Everley Brothers - Bye, bye love. It's a good version. Listen if you like the Ev's
Yep! Cecilia is an "ear worm". Once inside it never leaves. It should pay me rent because I heard this when it first came out in the late sixties and it is still with me😉
So if you consider that St. Cecilia is the patron saint of musicians, I feel like this song makes way more sense. Like Cecilia is the personification of their creative muse.
Kodachrome and 'At the Zoo' are fun, more emotional and deep are Kathy's song, Condor el pasa, Bridge over troubled water, the boxer, America..... well.....so many great songs to list....Sound of silence and Bridge over troubled water are their most famous and most covered, but NO ONE does it like them. Great group to explore. I think you might like 'Scarborough fair".
😂My mother 's name was Cecelia and now my 4 mth old grandaughter is Cecelia and when she cries in the car her 7 yr.old brother sings the chorus to her to settle her down.
Paul Simon, the write, described this song as a bit of fluff. It only took a short time to record and was included on a new album as a fill in. It immediately became one of their fans favorite songs and a hit worldwide.
Being second is tough being second to a thing that you don't understand means you can't move on, I love the album this song came from its totally retro American 70s and I'm a UK man love it
Sorry to be a smart Alex here BUT St Cecilia is the Saint of music so there is a debate about whether or not this is a Paul Sinom metaphor for the way the music biz works. It's a thought anyway
@@HarriBestReactions It has always, always been my opinion that "Cecilia" is a lament to a "fickle" muse... "you're breaking my heart, you're shaking my confidence daily" S & G never spoke in a straight line if they could do it in allegory. (Lends deeper meaning to their work, etc.) Any way you slice it, it's a great tune, great lyrics, and spectacular performance art.
Jamaican runner Is Bolt. This song is a favorite of mine. Why she did what she did and why he wanted her back. He is a smitten loser. As for her, this song was released in 1970. There was a prevailing spirit after the Summer of Love and Woodstock. It was best expressed by Stephen Stills on his first solo album released in 1970. The song was "Love The One Your With". Harri, would you be so fixated if the song was titled "Cicel" and it was a woman that got up to wash her face? Not judging just asking.
Paul Simon wrote The only living boy in New York when he was on his own as Art Garfunkle was away filming for his role in the cult movie Catch 22. Fun fact< Paul Simon went to Frank Zappa's house in the sixties. Paul was sitting there and crying like a little girl. Frank said to Paul "what's wrong why all the tears?" Paul replied " I have to pay $14,000 to the government in taxes" Frank replied, "that's what you are crying about? do you know how many people would love to earn $14,000?
They have songs for every season of life and thats why I am never tired of listening to S&G. My favourite band/artist. No one else comes close.
Its about Paul Simon’s music / writers block.
Cecilia the patron saint on music. After he writes this song, “jubilation! shes loves me again”, because he’s written a song he likes again.
This song was reportedly recorded in a hotel room on a little portable Sony tape recorder.

HarriBest, can't wait for more of your Paul Simon reactions, especially his solo work. America's greatest songwriter. Period.
AHH Harry!! LMAO!!😂 You take Lyrics So Bloody Literal!!!😂 Thanks!! I needed to Laugh!!😂🤣✌️
Must have been all that free love in the 60's. LOL this is one of my favorite Simon & Garfunkle songs!
Yep! Cecilia is an "ear worm". Once inside it never leaves. It should pay me rent because I heard this when it first came out in the late sixties and it is still with me😉
😂🤣😂🤣 That is funny Harriet
This has always been one of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel songs. Thanks for reacting to it!
What ever the lyrics mean, i jz love the beats, the rhythm and the harmonies🤗😅

oh Kodachrome is so great
The lyrics were considered "controversial" in 1970. Don't read too much into them...just meant to be funny.
yes it was considered a pretty shocking song after all they were singing about making love in the afternoon.
Back in the 60's and 70's we didn't get hung up on the lyrics. We didn't have lyrics at are disposal. We loved the music/ for the most part
😂My mother 's name was Cecelia and now my 4 mth old grandaughter is Cecelia and when she cries in the car her 7 yr.old brother sings the chorus to her to settle her down.
Never thought about it before, I was a young teenager then and I don't think anyone analysed the lytics of any song you just sang along to them
Exactly Alan
Mrs Robinson
The Boxer
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
El condor pasa

This was the 60s man. The lyric is 'someone' took his place, not necessarily another man.
what does it mean?
Sorry to be a smart Alex here

Wow...now THAT is an interesting thought! Knowing them. It just might be right. I never thought about the lyrics before, just enjoyed the Vibe.
Its a very interesting angle Stephen

My favourite S&G song is The only living new york from the same album
The only living boy in New York is lovely.
Paul Simon wrote The only living boy in New York when he was on his own as Art Garfunkle was away filming for his role in the cult movie Catch 22.
Everything But the Girl did a great cover version.

She's a player😉
😂🤣🤣😂🤣 indeed
@@HarriBestReactions "Cecilia" is a reference to St. Cecilia, patron saint of music. S&G are talking about the fickleness of inspiration to artists.
Fun fact;
Paul Simon used to be married to the late Carrie Fisher (Star Wars fame), and they had a very tumoultous relationship!
The beautiful song Hearts and Bones was about their relationship.

Much of the percussion comes from the guys banging on things o the studio like chairs and things.
In 1970's US coming out of the 60s and the 'sexual revolution' along with the Vietnam war; life and love was very different than today.
i think the word you're looking for is "nymphomaniac".................
Say the word "car" then the word "Gar"... now...Gar-funkel.
BTW Cecilia was a dog (literally a canine)
Listen again - it makes sense
Next track baby driver
check out me and Julio
