I did a ticket office course in the office above the station here in 2007. The train xc north used to sit in the platform for a couple of minutes every day. Nice video
Indeed. The days of BR. The lines must have been electrified soon after because LUL operated from Earls Court and there were the Alstom sets of Eurostar which passed through from North Pole depot to Waterloo.
Also of note, on the road bridge above the station, the tri wonder advertising hoarding. This allowed three advertisements to be shown, rotating every so often. Nowadays we're used to electronic hoardings, which flash up another advert. This was a forerunner.
Splendid. Very rare shot of 33025 'Sultan' in DCE drab grey livery, having only just been painted into that, only to go into DCE 'dutch' a couple of weeks later.
What’s very interesting from this very good video is the way in which the freight business on rail has changed greatly over the last 30 years. Parcel trains for what ever reason have disappeared completely. The small train movements, engineering trains aside, have disappeared and the ridiculously small bulk wagons have given way to the European style of wagons. I do wonder if capacity constraints are holding back the the reintroduction of parcel trains or is the fragmented market.
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus seems a somewhat securitous route. I think latterly, these services ran through Mitre Bridge and on to the WCML. Sometimes involving a loco change to a class 87
@@iainmaturin8460 That was the way but it was changed by this time as i recall. Although there were summer Saturday workings that still went direct, from BNS to Ramsgate, they had Deltic D9000 on them and a pair of 31s at times, the cranks in control having a jolly! There are a few Ramsgate vids upload on my channel already....
Ahh, the good ol' days! I wasn't even born back then, but I do LOVE a mix between the old and the new.

Great catch getting that liverpool lime street to Folkestone Central can't have ran for that long as this is the first time I've seen it
I was fascinated by the idea of the cross country intercity trains stopping at Kensington Olympia!

Great video at a superb location 😊 And that was a cross country service back in the day with plenty of room 👍🏻
OMG Semaphore!

3:51 Interesting to see the white roofed non air-con and air-con MkII's in the rake. They were usually part of the Intercity Landcruise set IIRC.
That's a lot of freight

I had no idea the connection to the London transport line was still in place as late as this, wonder when that was last used?
satill used for exhibitions at5 olympia
Guess what? Not 1 today - slipped up 😅
Does anyone know what the Cross Country route was for this service to pass through London? I assume it ran to/from the south coast.
Yes, it was a service to Brighton, and came vis the Great western Main Line.....
There was a second one too. Liverpool to Folkestone via Birmingham and Reading.

@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus thanks Sou. It may be a hypochrafal story, but I heard somewhere that Branson favoured Deltics because of their reliability!
