that Tucker could still sing Una Furtiva Lagrima with such beauty and control as well as belt out the Otello and Gioconda is amazing for a man his age. This is what great vocal technique is all about.
I used to own this recording, and then I lost my home and its contents. I have not been able to replace this, until I saw this posting just now. I am so grateful to be able to hear this again.........a true collector's item.........thank you for doing this.
i still have 2-record set - a real treasure if you have a record player that works and some great speakers or headphones to listen, thanks to you tube for keeping this masterpiece alive!!

41:00. without a doubt, the finest Pearl Fisher duet of all time so far. Unparalleled in all ways; heart, commitment, emotion, blend, technique. I miss this golden age of singing.
@@joecivitano Bjoerling's was the greatest state of the arts "Studio recording" of it , made in the early 1950's with Merrill. This of course is live, not studio, in 1973, and also with Merrill and the 59 year old great Spinto tenor Tucker. He never did record the duet on any studio recording, but in 1946 sang it live with Robert Weedy on a radio program in English, at that time Tucker was 32 years old, it's not in good sound quality but is on you tube.

Merrill is in remarkably good voice, and is not engaging in the ‘woofing’ that marred his later singing. (Some classic Merrill make-up-the-words in the ‘Otello’ duet.)
Robert Merrill’s voice was magnificent!
Voices like these are rare now. I was so lucky saw this concert. Bravi!

Two Great Friends who were two great Singers RIP
Tucker was 59 years old, still solid , he died just two years later, Jan. 8th, 1975

Merrill is singing a number of these arias down a half-step. Is this an issue with the recording or did he do this often?
