Mr. Wolin is incredibly insightful and has a way of communicating complex ideas in a simple way. What a rare quality, just wish this sort of commentary got the attention it deserves.

Sooner or later the system is going to become properly challenged as was the case prior to the New Deal. However if Americans simply accept a new 'New Deal' again i.e. better pay, conditions and pensions then they will merely be setting course for a repeat of history, winding up back right here in 100 years perhaps. Americans must fight for a radical reconfiguration of all of the structures of power ensuring genuine democracy if they want a sustainable future or resign themelves to a path to 3rd world existence.

America's corrupt government has fallen. As we move towards economic inequality, with capitalism dying, is America moving towards socialistic society? What happened to the American dream of capitalism?

Nope, America is seeing the results of unregulated capitalism. The governmental construct which made the British Empire a force of power possessed by a few is the akin to the governmental construct of the United States today. It's what made for unequal justice under the law. Royals face a different justice than serfs. The system is taxing the masses without representation and bailing out private corporate governments insuring their power remains intact. This is the face of America. This has nothing to do with socialism. It has everything to do with anti-socialism which is an affront to human decency. Concentrated non-democratically governed corporate charters empower the largest share holders to be the true terrorist enemies of a free, self governing citizenry. Consumer is the term applied to serfs. The corporate oligarchs rule and suck up the bulk of the wealth that is derived by the labor, creativity and service of others. The corporatocracy owns and controls the means to production.

    fascism |ˈfaSHˌizəm| (also Fascism)
    noun
an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.
    • (in general use) extreme right-wing, authoritarian, or intolerant views or practice.
The term Fascism was first used of the totalitarian right-wing nationalist regime of Mussolini in Italy (1922-43), and the regimes of the Nazis in Germany and Franco in Spain were also fascist. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach.

Socialism and Fascism are functionally the same thing. They institute pretty much the same government rules systems and structures. The "intention" behind both are completely opposite and that what people get stuck on.
I've found no symbols more perfect for the proverb "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." Than that of socialism & communism.
We're currently living in a world where we care much more about intention over effective results.
Did that president INTEND to cause that suffering and misery? No, well then it's ok. Who cares if he's very effective at it, and we are repeating it. As long as he didn't intend to, thats always fine.
Quite wisely, the alternative form of that proverb is:
"hell is full of good meanings, but heaven is full of good works."
