- In this clip you can see the passion and dedication involved in trying to get the most powerful motorcycles in the world down the track cleanly. Larry "Spiderman" McBride’s talented brother and crew chief Steve McBride has some of the greatest wall-jumping celebrations and excited interviews in the sport after a great run. Clearly frustrated by what he saw in this clip, Steve simply says “ain’t talking” after the pass and heads back to the pits, contemplating how to change the tuneup. It can be a real chess match trying to get these volatile, ultra mighty , nitromethane burners down the track without losing traction! Norway’s Sverre Dahl also smokes the tire. We hear from Mike Mullaney, Mr. Pingel, 7.0 Joe, Geno Scali and others.

@@jonathantrauner5731 I never said it was a tyre problem, I merely mentioned it was a brand new tyre (still had the sticker on) i.e. hadn't been properly scrubbed, or had any runs on it to give maximum grip. In any form of top fuel it is always a clutch problem, as that dictates how much power is sent to the tyre (unless the tyre actully blows). Still doesn't change the fact that the crew chief is all wound up about very unfavorable conditions like the weather which no one has control over. You would have to be fairly full of yourself to send a top fuel bike down the track in the middle of winter with a new tyre and think your tune is going to be so spot on that you won't have it a little bit wrong.

one of the funnest runs I ever saw was Muldowney and Gene Snow at NEDW. Summer nationals 1/4 round, both shook off the line, let off, damn near stalled, lit up again, sideways ( both) Snow won at (I think) 7:50/ 78mph Shirley lost at about 7:52/ 125mph. When things go wrong, the driver wins the race

If somebody was mildly irritated at a video game and decided they would rather go grab a fresh beer instead of finish the match. So they mutter "damnit" and abandon the match. This is not a "RAGE QUIT". A rage quit is when a kid spikes his computer, hurls controllers, and sodomizes himself with remotes. Extreme. Caps lock is used to add severity. This, along with the precise words used, is what we call communication. Basic understanding of English communication leads one to assume that the word furious, all caps, promises a scene with a violent and physically destructive outburst. Hence why the comment section of this particular video is full of people expressing disappointment. Is that spelled out enough for you?

Is it really racing if it takes that long to stage?
@@redactedrider7606 It took 2+ minutes to stage. If you factor that in then my stock car is significantly faster than these bikes in the quarter mile. I understand doing a quick burnout to get better grip. However, going over the bike for two minutes really takes the fun out of racing. I stopped watching on tv due to the slow pace.
Exactly, drag racing is a lot more than just the race itself. I personally like watching the crew do their job just as much as the actual race. Organizer chaos that comes all together for a few seconds.
Ticket prices are high, TV ratings are poor. Stage times are slow as molasses. The NHRA has been unable to create meaningful growth. The young audience is not watching, or paying to see. I do enjoy racing and watching crews work together. But who really wants to see a burnout down half the track with a post burnout analysis by the crew. By the time the vehicle makes it to the finish line it has essentially went down the track twice. This is not how many people including myself wanted the sport to evolve.
@@redactedrider7606 I am a little younger than you. I am just old at heart 😅 tracks up north are vastly different from what you are describing in Houston. Many around me have shut down. I do enjoy drag racing. I guess you could say that I prefer a simple burnout. I am impressed by the times that pro stock and higher classes turn out. However, when the team has an infrared thermometer and playing a waiting game against the other team I get discouraged. Racing should be about skills and not a race against time with respect to tire temperature. I understand the stakes are higher so there is more work in staging. As a fan I get frustrated by the emphasis on these higher end classes by the NHRA. That is all that plays on tv. Very frustrating to a person who is more interested in the lower classes.

I don't even watch the NHRA events on the TV. They don't even show half the racing. There are so many classes that I would love to see. I have attended events and it's great getting to the other races. The broadcast events take you to the pits or commercials. The PS bike class is terrible. One sided, all advantages to the Harleys.
They will show nitro Harleys, these nitro burners should be out there racing. We know the NHRA would come up with some kind of rules to screw over these engineering marvels. These bikes are truly amazing.
@@TheoneGodfather Yes, they are as bad as NASCAR, which I don't watch at all. Back in the 70's they started outlawing anything that was winning. The superbird with the wing comes to mind.

Are those water cooled. I know some motorcycles were. My old Harley 45 flathead was water cooled. Yep, every time I made pit stop. Recycled beer is an excellent coolant. 🍺🍺🍺😆
@Justin Chauvin you've never pissed on a Harley? Should try it sometime. Especially satisfying with custom cruisers. Aim for the exhaust so it gets baked in. Then it smells every time it's started. Can't wash it out lol

And you know maybe the race only allowed certain types of tyres on their track they have every right to do that as well if your into drag racing and you won a spot and the track says ok only Toyo triple r tyres are allowed and it is for let's say 100,000 you'd do it unless your insane
