- This was a fun test. Gopro Hero 10 vs Sony FDR X3000. I have had the Sony camera for many years and I love this camera. And I must say that it continues to surprise, yes GoPro Hero 10 is a better camera. But I think there is no point in upgrading. The Sony camera is good enough for 90% of us. Excellent image quality and very good stabilization.
And in fact in a few moments it's better than GoPro Hero 10. The image quality is more normal, the colors match surprisingly well with what your eye sees. And the built-in microphone is much better than the GoPro. Yes you want to get more out of your GoPro camera, you have better options. Better resolutions and framerates. So if it is important then you should upgrade. But do not sell the Sony camera. It is simply some of the best that has been made. Never any nonsense with that. It just works.

@aMiFiii Hey, thanks for watching. When it comes to streaming you are probably right, I never stream. The Sony is a excellent camera and I will never sell it, you can color grade the Sony footage and it looks really good. And the Sony camera always work, no bugs or crashes like the Gopro. GoPro looks really good if you film in flat in the highest resolution and grade it a little. I actually now use my Sony and action 2 more then the GoPro. As a action camera the GoPro is solid and works👍.
Love your vids Espen. I actually have both these cams myself and got to say Gropro works great out the box, the issue here is the x3000 files need to be upscaled to 4K 60frames even with 1080p shots as youtube compression with sonys file makes the shots worse than it actually looks.

Hi bro, I’m having problems with the sound. I bought the camera to replace my GoPro because I’m not happy with sound but my viewers say that the sound is now worse when using the Sony. Any suggestions?
Really difficult to decide but If I have IPhone 13 and it can replace the Sony fdr but the GoPro I might need it for swimming and more extreme hiking which I can’t use the Iphone. But I still like how natural sounds the microphone as well as the video quality on the Sony. I think it really depends on the type of videos you make..
Hi thanks for watching😀, yeah the iPhone can replace the Sony. But I really like my sony fdr still good in 2022. Gopro is excellent for action sport. The audio from the Sony is some of the best you get on a action camera.
I picked my x3000 up in Vietnam for 300 usd. I found out they dont make them anymore which is why theyre so expensive and difficult to find now.

I read so much about headaches from go-pro I am looking into getting a 2016 Sony fdr x3000 (which costs about the same as go-pro 10) just so i dont have to deal with clichés or battery or overheating or whatever other complaints i see all over the internet.
Hi, thanks for watching. The newest GoPro is pretty good, after the latest update, nut you never know with GoPro. The Sony x3000 is a excellent camera, im still using it and it just work. If you like high resolution the GoPro is better, but in real life colors and audio sony is better. Im gonna do more test with them soon. Happy New Year🍻
Good comparison! The sony looks more flat and the GoPro looks more “vibrant”. For sure the stabilization is better on the GoPro. And you’re right, you don’t need the newest or most expensive cameras to make content!

That's because this idiot has the settings all wrong on the Sony. The Sony totally blows away the GoPro and the resolution is much higher than the GoPro. This was a pretty defective comparison as most of the nonsense you see on UA-cam
I agree about the settings but the x3000 maxes out at only 4k30 and the Gopro 10 is 5.3k60 and 4k120. That said the x3000 is still an excellent camera and the used pricing on this old camera shows this camera is still relevant. It is sad Sony is not updating this camera.
PS: I shoot at 1080p60 on my x3000 and if I do upgrade to the gopro 10 I would not go above 4k60 but the Xtra resolution of the sensor would leave me headroom for the digital image stabilization and other features that need the extra horsepower.
I am not concerned about the flat color in the sony as that is how I shoot since color grade in post but I am concerned about some detail loss at least at auto settings. GoPro clearly has better auto modes but the x3000 has so many manual setting so more experienced shooters will get more the x3000 for sure.
Its worth noting that second hand prices of the x3000 are now, on average 40% more than the cost of a brand new GoPro 10. And like any camera that gathers a "cult" following like say Digital Bolex, or Ikonoskop, will see second hand prices increase while GoPro will just move on to the next model before being able to pick up their previous model for pennies. Hold on to the Sony, treasure it, its much, much more filmic and natural than the GoPro... and that SOUND! Beautiful.
Still have X3000, works great, no scratches on the lens, too bad sony not continue to x4000 I think.

As I understand it, the main difference will be in the evening and at night. When the Gopro digital stabilization will give out artifacts affecting the image quality, while the SONY with digital + NON-digital stabilization will be fine. It would be interesting to compare it in the evening shooting with movement. Something like a walk in the park with lanterns.
And the second is a sound. Surprisingly, GoPro still has problems with this. When you shoot yourself (you are in front of the camera), and then show where you are going (you are behind the camera), on Gopro the sound changes a lot. Sony has no difference, the sound quality is more uniform.
Although, of course, in 4 or 5 generations that have changed since Sony came out, GoPro has finally made a good, more contrast and really nice picture. It's actually better than Sony right now. Also the sound when you look at the camera is wonderful, also better than Sony. But overall, Sony is actually a more balanced camera, even now.

The sound is excellent on the Sony, probably the best sound of any travel vlog camera. Gopro is better then it was, but still not as good as sony. In image quality sony has better true colors, but the hero 10 has more details. Thanks for watching and comment👍

i love the review because im still undecided which one to get as my first camera for vlogging my travels. The colour and image on the go pro looks much better then the fdx3000, As for the sound you can buy a microphone attatchment that fits on the go pro to make the sound better. I also like the go pro has a front camera so u can see yourself as you film unlike the sony.. however the comments on this video are all going towards the sony

People that are saying Sony is better dont like GoPro at all. In image quality, functions and as a action camera GoPro is my choice. I have had three Go-Pros all of them died within a year, and they would seize, stop, glitch, overheat, absolute shite. I am actually considering buying a Sony FDR this year.

I have both Gopro and Fdr x3000. FDR x3000 has something the new Gopros doesn't have: reliability. When you press that record button it will record. Can't say the same thing for the Gopro.

I use Sony action cam lately it has stabilization issue. But I'm using the feiyu gimbal for Sony so it's okay now.
But I notice the gopro stability is excellent and the color works great in your preview!

What kind of stabilization issue did you get? And after how long?
I have Gopro Hero 9, FDR-x300 and FDR-x1000 and I actually find the colour on the Sony better and alot better in low light, the GoPro is very noisy. Looking at replacing the FDX-X1000 and only going to change to the GoPro Hero 10 because it is cheaper (Sony is £499 vs £379 for the Hero 10). I have also found the Sony is more reliable as well.

@@EspenJohan I actually purchased another fdrx3000 and a GoPro 9 and dropped the Sony, annoyingly there is a really small scratch on the lens and it is out of focus but the rest of the camera is fine, £500 and only a years use. Been unable to find a repair centre either

4k is great but with high bitrate it's time consuming to upload. I find even uploading 1080 on the action 2, to be quite large files because of that.
Is the x3000 bitrate variable, or fixed? At what rate please?

Hey thanks for watching, the Sony is a great little camera. It's possible to do some adjustment in post, but I still think the Sony is doing good in 2021. Still the best internal audio og any action camera.
Which one has a better battery life?
I would say more or less the same. Sony fdr in 1080p 2 hours, in 4k 1 hour. Gopro Hero 10 4k 1-1,5 hours all depend on the temp outdoor.
I won't be selling my X3000 soon. Seems that gopro can't really produce a reliable camera. Year by year the prices go up on their camera but the reliability goes down.
I thought that the old GP1 was the issue with the gopro, but now I see that it's not that. Gopro just aren't pro and haven't been for a while now.
If Sony would decide to produce a X3000 successor, man... there'll be no competition at all.
This 6 years old camera from Sony it's already crusshing the hero 10 and DJI Action 2 on low light and the Sony also has mic in, HDMI and tripod mount without the bullshit expesive, good for nothingh and buggy adaptors and media mods.
If the Sony X4000 comes, then it's curtains for gopro and DJI Action 2 (of witch you cannot power externaly and have a external mic in at the same time. WTF DJI?)
I agree with you the Sony is excellent and I will never sell it. The GoPro Hero 10 annoy me often, the other day I was out recording in 5.3K it looks pretty good if the light condition is good. But the camera turns off at 50%, warning low battery. WHY😡. Still have 50% left. The Dji action 2 I like that camera, it works good for my use. Its better then GoPro, and it works. Thanks for the video. Do you use anything to reduce background noise with the Sony? I bought it the replace the GoPro because I’m not happy with the sound, but I’m not happy with the amount of noise it picks up and when people I’m speaking to are speaking quietly, I can’t hear them

I bought the go pro 10 about 4 weeks ago, it's great for making vlogs, but it is a headache to try and get it to work as a webcam (audio delay), it doesn't work as a webcam out of the usb-c to a capture card you need the media mod (Go Pro making money scam), the batteries are weak asf and only get a good 30-40min use per battery, the go pro live function is very unreliable and buggy with constant disconnects you can't livestream with it for long periods of time, it overheats, you can't battery hot swap. I'm selling this go pro 10 and keeping the sony fdr - x3000. Go pro are just money making scammers who really don't listen to the users.
I agree with many thinks you say, GoPro has some issues and can be annoying. What about the new Dji osmo action 3?, That seem to be a good camera.

On both, the advantage of Sony's batteries is that they are cheap
I much prefer the Sony colors - much more natural, however the Hero 10 has better contrast and dynamic range and better flare resistance. However, I prefer the DJI to either, and as soon as light levels get low the Hero 10 falls apart first, next the Sony, and the Pocket is the clearly better option. While the Hero 10 features beat the Sony, the quality of the Sony footage is amazing considering its age.

I'm doing IRL streaming, so I'm using the camera's hdmi output on the road and live stream.
I started with the gopro, and used it for 5 months, yes the gopro is a nice camera but... even without battery it started overheating when summer hit, plus in all past 5 months I had big trouble with the gopro firmware, in hdmi output mode the gopro suddenly decides to go 480p output without sound, which is a fluke of the firmware (gopro 8, 9 and 10 have this issue).
That last part is annoying so I went for a search for the Sony fdr x3000 which I have now.. and I have to say that it's a far nicer camera, yes the image is maybe a bit more grey compared to the gopro, but it doesn't overheat... the mic is great with a muff to avoid wind.. and it just keeps working without issues on hdmi output.
So my choice, based on usecase, is the sony

Thanks 😀, the GoPro works pretty good. The only thing that annoys me is when I film in 5.3k the GoPro turns off when I still have 40% battery left. But this is the best that GoPro's made.

For longer recordings in GoPro10, it will split your videos into shorter clips. For example, if you shoot a one hour video, it will split those clips to four 15 mins clips. Is there any few seconds gap (or few seconds of no recording) between the clips?

They're both great but in Japan where more and more places are banning cameras, the Go Pro can be more stealth, attached to my backpack strap with a clip and I like wear black clothing so black Go Pro with front screen turned off or covered with black tape is much more stealth. Even with iPhone camera I had a few places tell me stop filming in shop, even though I was quiet and in corner with hubby. And in bookstore the other day, they have sign on entrance no cameras and when I held DJI Osmo Pocket close to chest the cashier at front was watching it so put it away. Mind you, I'm in countryside, look pure Japanese and notice a change where people want privacy in public areas. I heard Japan Disney banned DSLRs and gimbals unless you have special permission. In countryside when I go out, I rarely see people filming day to day so you stand out so I want something that can be stealth. iPhone camera ok in general but sometimes got to be more stealth. Japan so crazy sometimes with privacy and on the news here they blur entire screen and put super high Minnie Mouse voice it almost seems like a joke at times. In US we might just blur face and maybe lower voice a bit time to time, here its regular thing.

I hate Gopro. I have the 3,4,5,7 and 8. 50% of the time I use it, I have problems. Audio, video, every problem you can imagine.
Thanks for watching👍, and I can understand your frustration. Gopro has had many problems, but it seems that Gopro hero 10 is the best they have made. My favorites are probably the Dji camera, I have pocket 2, osmo action and the latest Dji action 2.
Sony will not make a new action cam because they want to sell you aps-c cameras or full frame ones, they are some of the best in the world anyway. So probably go towards aps-c for a relatively close price but probably much better image quality.
I agree with you, but would be nice with a x4000😀. I have a sony zv1 love that camera, and the price is ok.
@@EspenJohan great, zv1 is a nice camera. They recently created the zv e10. Cheaper than a6xxx but has 90% of the features. I think it would be a better move to get that than an action cam that is not that versatile. I inow what you're saying though, I love sony and it would be lovely to see them in this space.
@@mihaiserbanescu8676 yeah the zv e10 looks really good, but I bought the zv1 before the e10 was launch. And I really like the small form of the zv1, just a small pocket camera with good enough image quality. When I one day can afford it my dream is a full frame camera.

I regret getting insta 360 one r the 4k mod is really bad and 360 quality isn't that great
Thanks for watching, yeah im not gonna buy the Insta360 one r. I had the Insta360 one x2 but I sold it, it's a good 360 camera but to much work editing the footage.
Sony is washed out and colors on GoPro are more modern

while the x3000 still has better dynamic range and superior audio
