STORYLINE:
As Ireland prepared for the 90th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising - one of the most important dates in modern Irish history - the last surviving child of the executed leaders of the uprising expressed his hope for a united Ireland.
During Easter week in 1916, revolutionary forces, made up of the Irish Volunteers and Irish Citizen Army, led by school teacher and barrister, seized key locations in Dublin and proclaimed an Irish Republic independent of Britain.
The uprising was suppressed and its leaders executed.
AP Television News interviewed Hong Kong priest Father Joseph Mallin - the last surviving child of the executed men, ahead of his trip back to Dublin to take part in the commemoration ceremonies.
The 92 year-old Irish priest is the son of Michael Mallin,
Mallin surrendered on Sunday, 30 April when ordered to do so by leader of the uprising - James Connolly.
He was executed by firing squad on the 8 May.
Joseph Mallin first came to Hong Kong in 1948 and started to serve as a priest in a college in 1955.
Speaking on Tuesday he said that Ireland " has to be one country, one day". However, he also called for reconciliation.
"We can''t do an injustice now for the injustice done to us, " he said. "We must walk away."
Within the Irish Republican tradition, the leaders of the Easter Uprising who were executed are revered as martyrs and as founders of the Irish Republic.
