As someone who works in Asset Management for a BB investment bank, I can give some quick advice. INVEST, do not trade. If you need to hedge the downside, use puts or a collar. DO NOT use leverage. You can have a trading account for fun, but it should be 1/5th of your retirement account. All the best!

I’m 21 and my portfolio is seriously down bad rn 😂 down 50% from Nov and I’m actually down from where I started after 2 years of investing. Definitely sucks but I take it as a lesson to take profits when it’s reasonable. One of my holdings was up 200%+ for me at one point and now I’m down more than 25% on that stock alone. Definitely hurts but I’m young and I know I’ll have time to make more. Hopefully a market rebound eases my mind and makes me feel better ❤.

There's also a saying that markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent. At the end of the day, you need to do what aligns with your objectives. If you're young, maybe it makes sense to ride it out. If you're well into retirement, maybe not. IMO, the winds have changed and there is more downside pain ahead.

Thank you for this. I have been increasingly questioning my commitment to my long-term thesis. I have made some egregious trades, but the majority of my portfolio I still stand by. All these adult investors making the future sound bleak, but my view is that in 30 years the global economy will have advanced and expanded by many multiples. The only way I see that not happening is if some mega-catastrophe occurs. At which point I think our fiat currency asset gains/losses will be the least of our worries. I am betting on the current world order not atrophying.

@@craigme2583 oh I know. I was aware the market would be an unending up and down roller coaster from the start, it’s just common sense really since it’s always constantly fluctuating, so I’m holding onto everything I bought and waiting for a bull market.
I actually got into the market during 2020 during Covid as well and much the same thing happened, but instead I pulled out…. Then those same stocks and cryptos like fucking quadrupled compared to when I bought them, kicking myself in the ass for pulling out then and so im gonna be smart and at least wait and see if it gets better.
19 and lost 4K since 1yr till now. Definitely a lot of trial and error but i‘m glad that i‘m still young even though it should not be an excuse for losing almost all of my money. I will only continue to try again until I make more money than I loose.

i feel the best I've been in a long time because I was able to predict that the stock market was gonna go down back in December of 2019 (just as corona showed up in china and news was only starting to spread). since then I just bought in because I knew that once it reached my country all the schools would close and there would be a lockdown. There wasn't even any proof of this, but my forward-thinking mindset did me a massive justice.
