Steve, no worries man, I cry too. You're not alone in this! It's ok, it's a movie that's designed to tug at your heartstrings, so it's perfectly normal! It just shows you have a softer, emotional side! Many gals dig guys who are able to show their softer sides. There's no shame in it.
Videos like this really make me heart broken that as John Williams is now about to break into his 90s it’s a potential this will be his last decade in the world and I just can’t imagine a music world without him
Be sad not that we may not have him for long, but embrace the privilege that we had him at all. A true genius and cornerstone of so many childhood memories, mine included!
Indeed - I specifically said "my" heart strings. :) Nostalgia, listening circumstance, and personal relation to the characters in the film itself definitely plays a part!
I'm so glad that live orchestras playing in sync to a full movie has become a pervasive trend in the concert schedules of symphony orchestras around the world. I don't know why it did start happening sooner.
Approaching forty years now!!! This tale will live on till the end of time. Thank you to whoever is responsible for finding this and making it available.
One of the greatest movie of all time everything was perfect the acting the direction Spielberg is one of the greatest director of all time all his films are great he knew how to get the best from those kids that were unknown at that time especially henry thomas and drew Barrymore and the masterpiece of musical scored by the greatest of all time john williams
All those who were fortunate enough to have been in that auditorium for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The orchestra even played the Universal Theme live.
SO much youth memories...I was the same age as Elliott. John Williams is a musical genius and Steven Spielberg a cinema genius. Together they created magic in so many movies.

I'm watching this on or about the film's 40th anniversary, having recently seen Steven Spielberg help Drew Barrymore celebrate her 46th birthday. This 20th anniversary event must have been incredible!
Tinsby that was truly a once in a lifetime experience. I bawl everyone I watch this because John Williams is the greatest ever. When the day comes that we lose that man.....😢😢😢😢😢😢
Folks what's really amazing here is that not only was this the 20th anniversary of the film, but we are coming up on the 20th anniversary of this 20th anniversary of the film. This is one of the finest timeless classics that should work for all of time.
As a performer this video always gives me knots in my stomach. The most important thing people need to understand about this is that the movie has already been slavishly conformed to the music. That's how the movie worked in the first place. To then, 20 years later, spit it out backwards where the music has to be conformed to the movie with a whole new orchestra is even harder than anyone realizes. The fact that this whole thing even happened, and was done well, is a miracle in itself. This right here is why John Williams is one of my heroes. He has shown me that the impossible can not only be possible, but it can get even better,
I have watched this Movie, "TNTC", times. I've witnessed it Live at the Hollywood Bowl, with John Williams at the L.A. Philormanic Orchastra. Never get's Old. We must ALL, have a little, "Peter Pan" in us somewhere.
For me this ET film 20th anniversary celebration is news! Visual and musical geniuses united in a single and amzing event.! John Williams is the real ET and he blessed us all with his compositions.
This film was /is my youth. I had the same age as Elliott (12), so it really got to me. Next year it will be 20 years after this 20th anniversary. So the film's 40th birthday!! Time goes so fast.
Tmw is the 38th anniversary of the movie, be ready to have tissues again, but this movie was incredible, thank you Steven Spielberg and the cast and crew, especially our favorite little alien himself
And now it’s 40 years ago!!! The technology they use in this video (film projectors etc) is already ancient technology. It’s all digital now (8K). RIP Melissa Mathison, Carlo Rambaldi & Allan Davieau
I had just seen some familiar musicians... some of them performed music for Bear McCreary for his various projects. As for the video, wow... just great! Nothing like John Williams.
Seriously, this is in reality, somewhat impossible to accomplish but..... these artists are amazing musicians and is accompanied by one of the GOATs of music
this cut of the movie needs to be on the blue ray so we have both versions I'm alll for the original version but seriously give us the extended versions of E.T.
@@jswatch9270 Well you watch the film but the original soundtrack isn't what you hear. It's the live orchestra....and also the audiences vocal reactions. So yes it is the whole thing. But you do not see the orchestra.
One of my favorite childhood films. I'll never forget how the entire theater started to cry because my brother cried so loud when ET left. It's a shame Spielberg had to ruin the 20th anniversary version with his politics and the unnecessary edits.
@twirl1. All I can say is you must know nothing about music. I am a professional musician & this soundtrack for many, many years was the best movie soundtrack I have ever heard. It made you cry, laugh, give you ecstasy, shudder in fear & gasp for air in shock. I don't know how you can call it corny but I will forgive your naivety. It would be interesting to hear your favourite movie soundtrack & get a insight to your musical critique!
Corniest movie score ever written. It completely takes me out of the movie. Every note and over-done fanfare, flourish, and rhythm just makes my eyes roll. I literally ROLL my eyes when I hear this score in the movie, and by extension here as well.
fwirl1 Dude I will literally come find you and punch you in the face for that stupid remark. That's just a straight hater remark and it makes you sound like a fucking idiot.
What in the actual fuck is wrong with you? Your brain must be really badly underdeveloped to not be able to appreciate literally the most majestic masterpiece of a soundtrack in history, god I just...... have no words other than seriously there is something very, very wrong with you. You're a talentless, jealous flop. This man is legendary and this soundtrack is the best ever recorded so deal with it.
One of the greatest movies of all time. Everyone involved in its making should be so proud.
Absolutely agree!
Damn you john Williams for making me cry at the end of e.t.
Again! Lol

"THE" Greatest musical composer of our age

His legacy is assured, and would have been even if he had retired decades ago.
His passing will be a sad day, no doubt. But just think of the legacy he leaves behind!
No one but John Williams, he makes me happy and makes this world a better place to live.
How I remember watching this as a child " now in my 40s it still puts a lump in my throat
It makes me bawl . More now as an adult !! No other movie does that
Truly the best musical score ever written... No other music tugs my heart strings like it.
That is your opinion. Others may not agree.
Indeed - I specifically said "my" heart strings. :) Nostalgia, listening circumstance, and personal relation to the characters in the film itself definitely plays a part!
I'm not an other -- I'm ME.
Therefor, I agree with 'him.
i'm right he's a genius ! this music touches the heart !
Same
Taking in the score in its entirety, that is from the beginning of the film to its end, it is likely John Williams best.
I'm so glad that live orchestras playing in sync to a full movie has become a pervasive trend in the concert schedules of symphony orchestras around the world. I don't know why it did start happening sooner.
It's a very difficult thing to pull off.
I feel the standing ovation and cheers at the end just isn’t enough for the mastery of this score.
ET will always be Steven Spielberg's best work of art!

Amazing!
John Williams is a genius when composing for film.
that harp sounds so beautiful
Один из лучших композиторов 20 века. Без его музыки фильм не производит такого сильного впечатления.
Translation: One of the best composers of the 20th century. Without his music, the film does not make such a strong impression.
Film and Music magic at its best

I loved E. T. My favorite 80’s movie all time loved e.t. Wish they can make a part 2 a second film I was 6 I saw it n 1982
No thanks the xfinity commercial is a perfect sequel to e.t. the extra terrestrial we get.
I'm crying. seriously.
they need to do this with the theatrical version of E.T.
JL leichter this was the theatrical version of E.T. They played the score live for the entire production.
@@virgildantefrazier1 I think he meant like the Broadway version
@@virgildantefrazier1 yes they should and it should be released on DVD

it would have been great to have both cuts in blue ray format
Perfect.

Don't forget the concert version
and this cut of E.T. never saw the light of day again because we know have only the theatrical cut of the movie on home media format

There is a bonus DVD with the live orchestra playing on this night. You can watch and listen as everyone did on this very night.

BVictor21 . He is only 2nd to Walt Disney in nominations for academy awards. Like over 50 or so. I know the man is phenomenal

See directors nowadays just want rythmn type of music to propel the movie , but one can’t hum without melody 😕
Is that Itzhak Perlman at 4:51?
Sahil Makhijani It's Endre Granat, concertmaster for many film scoring sessions in Los Angeles through the years.
Paul Henning Ahh I see
It's not him. Unfortunately
