The S-400 customers will be asking for their money back anytime soon
Vladimir Gopnik from the Kremlin customer hotline:
"S 400s that have exploded, are currently exploding or will explode in the future are excluded from exchange."
I was concerned that some of the export customers for Soviet-era junk might start giving it back instead of paying for oil. I don't think the russians can crew any more deathtrap T-72s, though.
I reckon they would hard pressed to get deliveries in the first place. A lot of the export seems to end up getting snaffled off into the Russ military before it gets on the boat
@@gdutfulkbhh7537 Think the Russians would want them back anyway, almost anything seems ot be better than the WWII relics they are having to start to use now.

I know. And it was all because they wanted tech transfer of the patriot.
Air defense systems that can't defend themselves from attacks from the air. I bet there are some countries out there with buyer's remorse.
Turkiye, maybe?
Maybe with semi-competent crews and command they could be decent systems?
You know, somewhere where they don't deliberately drain hydraulic fluid and anti-icing systems from planes to use as an alcoholic drink.
sadly also iris-t and a patriot battery where also destroyed aleady.. so its not only the russians
@@iffracem Russia's radar tech is not the best. An S-400 is absolutely lethal to a 4th generation fighter like the F-16 because they're big, has metal exterior and not much thought was given to reducing reflective angles/surfaces. A missile with it's tip pointed at you is an inherently "stealthy" shape, and since ATACMS approach mach 4 in the terminal phase, the time from "blip on the screen to screaming and dying" is very short.
I speculate that the S-400 might also be capable of intercepting last-gen cruise missiles, but the newer ones (square fuselage) might also be tricky for it's radar (Well, it's radar scanning computer. The challenge with radars have always been sifting through the enormous amount of data to calculate what is noise and what is a target).
@@e1woqf😂👍
WRONG! The S400 intercepted the missile succesfully. 😅
Not only that, it was so efficient that it didn't even have to launch any missiles to intercept the ATACMS.

Bad workers get fired. Bad radar operaters get blown up?
@@krunchie101 In Russia bad (but obedient) workers get promoted until they're radar operators. Then they get blown up.
@@krunchie101 LOL, pretty much!
The amusing joke aside, "bad"'s a bit of a relative term here. In one worst-case, yes, bad radar operators do get blown-up. In another, bad radar operators shoot-down lots of stuff, but it all happens to be friendly assets. So even though the operators failed in their mission and probably died as a result here, believe it or not, the people replacing them could be much worse for Putin.
It's not mentioned here, but I suspect the MALD drones are continuing to work their magic, in the hands of extremely-competent Ukrainian users. Ryan McBeth had a good break-down of modern air defense and how little time operators have to detect, identify, and intercept the right targets before their window-of-opportunity closes. MALDs are probably making Russian radar screens light-up like Xmas trees. Good luck picking the real missile out of all that. Basically MIRV strategy on a smaller scale.
Garage sale coming up soon. For a bottle of vodka, you get a complete S-400. If you throw in a glass pickled cucumbers too, you get a Shoigu pin with it.
And if you throw in a running Lada you get Shoigu himself.
Believe or not, this is not far from the truth. This was happening in early 90's all along post Soviet block, when Russian occupational forces were leaving. Bring a country to an edge of collapse and people to desperation and they'll start to loose equipment... Even for a bottle of vodka.
After sobering up, Beaver Ivan and Dolik reported the successful interception of the ATACMS missile to their superiors.
😂😂😂
I had forgotten about those two! Thanks for the reminder.😃
@@AstroGremlinAmerican Sometimes I wonder how their "careers" are going.
You hit the nail on the head, Ukraine is preparing the space for aircraft operations. The F-16's will be slinging longer range weapons from higher altitudes and that would leave them vulnerable to even the Russian S-300/400 systems. Otherwise why bother to destroy them, they cant seem to intercept anything shot them or shot at ground targets near them.
Unlikely. It's far more likely to protect their SU-24s firing Storm Shadows, and MiG29s & SU-27s currently dropping JDAMS.
@@donwyoming1936it’s kinda both. NATO tactics use layers of defense. The F-16’s will provide topcover and SEAD in a wild weasel role. The HARM missiles are gonna eat well.

It's a "Hello" to Turkey that purchased several S-400 batteries. BTW, there are rumors that S-400 may be remotely disabled by the Russians by sending signals from a satellite. I wonder from whom Turkey is going to defend itself with these complexes?
Turkey probably bought them so they could reverse engineer them and make necessary improvements and then start making and selling their own versions of the S400
It was against Greece...
Ukraine using 5 ATACMS to hit these AA systems means have a bunch of them, or at least the promise of getting more.
I think the US is happy to get rid of the old ATACMS. They terminated the program in 2007, only upgrades since then but no new missiles.
Us army started getting prsm in December, so dod can likely clear out atacms each month equal to prsm deliveries without degrading us capabilities. Its game on, im honestly shocked russia cant deal with the things, theyre pretty easy targets for a modern system

Making the skies more friendly for the F16 sorties,,,,, whenever they begin,, mid summer???...,,,I've heard one of the issues is mechanic trainings, THese high tech jets require alot of maintenance.
Yes, lots of hours of maintenance for every flight hour. However, when SHTF, most fighters are pretty reliable, if you keep them flying almost non stop they tend to be very reliable. When they spend days on the ground things break.

To be fair missles like atacms are a challenge to air defenses in general.
Are they though? (apparently for the russians, yes)
I just go back to the fact that these are more or less just GPS guided Scud missiles. I didn't think there was anything stealthy or special about ATACMs that makes it harder to intercept than any other theater ballistic missile.

I want to stress that there were only 120 of these radars and 57 control units in service at the start of the war.
The launchers are a minor loss, the radar and control stations are a massive loss, hundreds of millions each

@@CyberBeep_kenshi Probably less than half, seeing as they likely have a good number that are faulty, and no spares, seeing as the factory was in Ukraine.

Anyome rember when people thought they were not being given atacms as Russian could shoot them down easier than the smaller ones
I'm thinking the actual reasons were:
PRISM needed to finish development and enter full production,
And hope that GLSDB (a much less expensive munition) would work better than it currently has been.
Now that PRISM is in full production, it frees the ATACMS missiles to be sent to Ukraine.

The Russian air defence missel systems blow up with a dandy boom. Knowing that they cant shoot down incoming ordinance and that they are always targets, how would you like to see one setting up in your neighbourhood?
I wonder if all of them are even operational. With rampant Russian pilfering of military budgets could it be that some of them are literally "paper tigers?" Parts missing or jerry rigged with less than optimal Maytag circuitry?

I wonder if these system really are as effective in terms of range as Russia claim they are. Since they cover pretty much all of the Donetzk frontline and the sea of Azov aswell as plenty of space in the north, I wonder why it didn’t detect all the Ukrainian drones flying into Russia and Crimea this year. They either lack the promised range or Russia doesn’t want to waste expensive rockets on cheap drones which might indicate to a shortage in long range air defence rockets.
Radar horizon is a thing. The claimed range is only valid for targets at above 15k ft.
What is there to wonder about?
In addition to radar horizon, the reality is that russia tends to use cued search mode for its max range numbers. Cued search is like a laser, powerful in one tiny spot of the sky, where volume search is more like a flashlight. Cued search is really only useful if you already know where to look. Resolution is another issue too, s400s seem to be having a hard time recognizing small targets as threats, which i find ironic considering it’s supposed to make stealth obsolete.
