“Querido/a” and “sinceramente” should never be used in formal communications in Spanish. These words do not fully convey the same meaning in English and Spanish. On the other hand, “Estimado/a” and Atentamente are perfectly appropriate for this kind of communications. (I am an Native Speaker AP Spanish Teacher).
Thank you! Literally my test is TOMORROW and I didn’t know we had to use idioms.. UPDATE: 2 months later 7/9/18 I got my results and I actually passed :)
To make everything more advanced, I pretend I'm talking to the President of Mexico or Guatemala. That way, I feel like I gotta impress them, but also be accurate.
You really don't need to use idioms in order to get a 5. You can also use fancier words and a more eloquent language and you'll still get a 5. Do not really worry about idioms..
That's how I feel even if you have Spanish speaking parents and you speak Spanish it's a benefit and a disadvantage. Because you have to learn everything again. Also, most parents don't say advanced language so I have to learn new words.

As a native speaker I got a 4 on the spanish 4 exam and a 3 on the spanish 5 exam. I solely relied on my Spanish for the spanish 5 exam because our teacher was more focused about teaching us about culture than actually preparing us for the exam. So when I took it I was completely clueless about the pieces of literature you need prior knowledge about. But I think a 3 is not bad in that case.
My school doesn’t offer AP classes, however you’re allowed to take AP exams without the AP course. I’m currently a Junior taking Spanish 4 which is college level Spanish and on my two state exams I’ve taken in Spanish I’ve gotten a 100 and a 98. I think I’m good at Spanish but I don’t know if I should take the exam without the course, any advice? PS I plan on doing something with education or foreign affairs when I’m older and my strong points in school are History and Foreign Language so view that as you will :)
Honestly only if you really want to, colleges will see that your school doesn't offer any AP courses and if your Spanish is already fine then the exam at least to me would feel like a waste of money and time, even if you do go into foreign language it's not like a test would help you improve, if I were you I would keep on practicing my Spanish with different websites and talk to Spanish speakers to keep on improving your conversational Spanish, which is the hardest part of the language.
@@nathaniel1069 nah I just tried to speak pretty fast and clearly to get as much as I could in the time provided. It’s good to have filler lines to say, like before the test started I came up with a bunch of stories and just bs filler that I knew how to say hella clearly and showed I understood the language. You just gotta be confident and if you mispronounce a word just stick with it don’t get caught up and try not to stutter.
