Okay so my theory is that in order to free the spirit the listener needs to find their killers identity. The reason we can’t leave is because the spirit is enraged that we are able to escape danger but he cannot, and was unable too. Or we can’t leave because he is enraged that his killer walked out completely fine. He doesn’t know who did it or doesn’t remember because he knows the killer was someone he trusted enough to let into his house only to literally be stabbed in the back. His rage isn’t just hatred for the killer but for the killer’s betrayal.

I love how, when he starts to talk about his own death and current reality around 8 mins in, the monstrous gravelly tones of his voice start to subside. Very briefly, very very briefly, it’s not there at all. I love how it reminds us how truly human this ghost was and still is.
I’m not sure why but he’s like a weirdly formal Casper the ghost. Like I wouldn’t mind having a chat with him, he seems to be curious about the current times as much as we are about him. Hope to see him again!
