What Is Wrong With My Google Nest WIFI?

  • I have been a long time supporter of Google products (Phones, Smart Speakers, Tablets, etc) and I was a happy owner of their Nest Wifi Mesh system until two months ago.
    Suddenly my wifi went from strong and stable to a constant headache. I had to unplug and reset one of the mesh nodes AT LEAST once per day.
    I finally had enough and purchased a TP LINK DECO XE75 to see if the problem was my house or the Google system.
    I also share some other networking issues that popped up this month like rebuilding my #qnap TS-431+ storage array.

    From what i can tell on the internet, you are not the only one. I started having issues with my google network setup around the end of 2022. Since then, i had to reset it all back to factory settings 3x to get my network stable again for a while. The nest router is plugged in and is next to my normal router. I have points set up in the following locations: living room, bedroom, kitchen, garage (so yes, that's 4 points). Here's how it always starts: the point in the bedroom fails and drops out, then the one in the living room fails and drops out. Then the one in the garage has 1 bar signal instead of 4. Etc etc... i have to unplug and plug it back in to fix the issue. But then i keep getting notifications on my phone that the network is down or fails to connect to devices etc. So, having this issue for the 4th time now in 2 years time (since i bought the network in 2021 and the errors keep coming back), i'm tired of it and i'll be scouting for a new system that's budgetfriendly and userfriendly. I hope (just like everyone ecountering this issue) that Google comes out with some sort of statement regarding this. Because it's def something firmware related. As it all works when you reset it all to factory settings, but after it updates on it's own we get issues.

    I thought I was losing my mind, but I started having the same Google Nest wifi problems. Thankyou for this video! I will check out the TPLink unit.

      I am sorry you are having problems and I am SHOCKED they haven't addressed it or fixed it yet. I really don't think I will buy another Google product again.

    Thanks for this video! It addressed my Google WiFi issue and also convinced me to purchased the Deco which was at Costco for a good price. Also, you touched on the network storage which was my next adventure. A video on that would be incredible! Thanks so much. Subscribing now.

      So I bought that QNAP in 2015, there are probably much better options now, but I can do a video on the general best practices and cost. NAS aren't cheap so people need to decide if they want to invest in that. Doing videos - I have no choice 😁

      Glad it helped! I think people just want to be validated that this is a real problem since google has been quiet.

    You described my exact problem!
    The main router gives me awesome service, but the points SUCK.
    We restart everything, it works fine....for a while. Then the wifi to the points drops to single digits.
    This all started about two months ago. Very frustrating. Must be nice to be able to ignore customers.

      It is very frustrating to invest in a system and for it to stop working after success. The TPLink has been rock solid for months, but that is an investment 😢

      Same story here, same timeline. My old ISP couldn't figure out the problem (three service visits) so I changed providers and bought an *unlimited plan* (as fast as their servers can provide my technical hardware specs with unlimited usage) and just a month later or so it started dropping again. I've had the Google Wifi system since 2020. Mid 2022 I changed mine out because the ISP at the time had blamed all the problems on my old computer, the walls in the house, some home decor and the position of my office in my house.
      So I bought a new Google Wifi (first mistake), a new laptop was on the to-do list anyway and a new phone was as well.
      Well, I can just say I feel all ya'lls pain as I've been through it myself. It has cost me a lot of money, time and crazy pills.
      Solution: Don't use Google Wifi

      Btw. Wouldn't it be ironic if 10 years from now we'd get the news that some 3-letter organisations had been tailgating our connections through Google tech

    Thanks for this video mate! Really helpful 👍🏻 love from Australia. I was watching multiple videos lately to setup a mesh system in my next home which is 2 storey building and none of the reviews/videos talked about it and finally found your video which addressed that, so thank you very much!!! One question though if I may ask? If I buy 3 pack Deco 6E unit, how to place them? 2 bedrooms are in upstairs with one of them going to be my office. How to place them effectively so that I get good coverage & speed? Also any idea for wired backhaul for my situation would be awesome. Thanks in advance and keep rocking 👍🏻

      I have mine set up as one on every floor (I have 3 floors). Wireless connecting vs. Wired worked better for me actually.

    • @JoeyLombardi
      @JoeyLombardi  2 місяці тому

      They say to keep the units high and centered on each floor for best coverage, and of course my main is in the back corner of the basement, but it works great

    Great video and nice setup you have there :-) what are your thoughts on the Deco devices after using it for some time now ? Online folks seem to fuss about TPLink reliability over time. Thoughts ?

    Since February of this year, I have been experiencing an issue where after installing the Point, other smart devices such as Google Speakers and Philips light bulbs have been failing to connect to the internet. This issue has been worsening over time.

    10:32 - Why wouldn't you just connect directly to the nas?
    Or did you have multiple computers copying "parts" of the data?

    • @JoeyLombardi
      @JoeyLombardi  8 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I didn't think to connect the external hard drive to the NAS vs. my PC. That was dumb. But I did use the exercise to clean up old files and redo the folder structure.

      Gotcha. That's fair. I've had to change formatting on my wd pr4100 before, and had to transfer 23tb of data.... that'd be forever and the wireless connection would occasionally drop due to the mass amount of radio transmissions

    I am looking for help with setting up my Nest Wifi Pro. My apartment building has Google Fiber, so I don't have or (hopefully) need a modem. When I go to set it up, there is a message that says "Connect to WAN" where it shows to connect the ethernet cable to the modem (Google Fiber in my case) but it gives the same message every single time I try to continue the setup. "Connection Failed". I have already gone through troubleshooting as well as following some tips from Reddit. One that I run into a lot on Reddit is to disable private wifi address and I have tried and it does nothing. If anyone has any advice or has been in similar situations PLEASE let me know. Thanks!

    • @JoeyLombardi
      @JoeyLombardi  2 місяці тому

      I am jealous that you have fiber, but I am sorry I can't help with that configuration. But one would assume two google products would work better together - I hope you get a solution from this crowd.

      Yeah, it was the only thing available for a long time unfortunately. Was considering getting the nest wifi hub and point for $89 on Google clearance and was doing some research on them. Glad I watched your video...I passed and will keep my Samsung home connect for another year or two I guess. It's been great and has smart things built into it.
