Sometimes you need to know when to walk away from it.
Let's just see how good we can make it look on a small budget and see how it goes. 😉
Someone gave me a "free" 1996 Katana once. Nine months later, much tinkering and $1,600. later, it was back on the road. After that project, I stopped working on motorcycle projects. Very curious to see what happens to this one. good luck!
The trouble with restoring bikes is it's very expensive and always turns out to be a labour of love.

it had a reg plate alarm i seen it in a box they bolt on behind the reg plate there a joke i have 3 of them that was on bikes lol 9v battery ran them

It would be pointless putting it back together in the condition it is in. Just for somebody to have to rip it apart again to get it on the road/restore. It is going to be a huge project. But seeing it in that state is sad. Would he sell it as is?
I think the owner wants us to tell its story and get it back in one piece again. He'd love to see it started and at a chance maybe become a project bike for us.

Sweet I think only Kat owners understand the Specialty of a Katana... They are a Spirt Tourer.. they have the get up and go with the comfort of a touring bike.. Now it is an 81 but its a 1st year edition of the Katana. No Brainer.
We were told it was an 81 but the plate says D reg which I believe is 86. 😁
To be honest, even though you travelled so far, I would have gave this one a miss.
