      Thanks Mansi! Glad you liked it. We hope you were able to land on a client since you the time you have written this. If not, it's okay, eventually you'll land your first gig 😊

    That's so nice to hear, when I first started teachers, colleagues and family told me you need to sell, sell, sell, if the client is paying you don't need to care if it's good or bad, just do what they want, and I always thought: No that isn't right, that's not ethic.
    Also some colleagues told me I was naive because I rejected clients that didn't fit my brand and that I invested money and time in so many design conferences and Internet forums to connect to people, but now I'm glad I didn't pay attention to them because my clients are people who are working to make a change with their businesses and projects, plus I was able to identify burn outs before they hit me, and I found some really nice mentors who support me to create my own thing.
    Keep up the good work.

    Thank you, Marvin. You really are a good guy with a big heart. It's very easy to notice... You inspire trust and you are very honest. Thank you for your advice. I just started my Motion designer carrier on Upwork I usually use the same "honest strategy" with my clients and friends, and I was wondering if this method works. I feel very uncomfortable trying to sell myself to people, and your advice helped me a lot.

    • @plainlysimple
      @plainlysimple  3 роки тому +2

      You’re very welcome! Glad to know this helped! “Selling yourself” shouldn’t feel uncomfortable and forced. There’s a time to “sell yourself” esp when the prospect is already interested but not when they’re just inquiring. I always just try to as helpful as I can be. I hate it when people at stores try to convince a sale when I’m just looking around, it’s also equally annoying when no one would entertain you. And this is also the same with our careers. I wish you all the best on your career 😊

    I really love your content. May i ask, do you go emailing around to find client when u were starting out?

    • @plainlysimple
      @plainlysimple  3 роки тому +4

      Hi! Glad you liked our content :) No, we didn't. We did start out bidding on freelancing sites to start, but eventually we built our own website and moved away from freelancing sites. As we continue to exceed expectations, clients just referred us to their colleagues and that's how we built our network. Eventually we did try emailing people around but it wasn't effective for us. Not to say that it's not effective, it wasn't just for us and me personally it doesn't sit well with me so maybe that's the reason why it didn't work. I didn't believe in the method so it was doomed to fail from the start. I just don't want to be sold to, so I guess deep inside it didn't feel right trying to sell to other people. Emailing people around, that's what you call outbound marketing. What I'm more comfortable doing is the opposite of that which is called inbound marketing, which is getting people to be curious to what we do and eventually would inquire. So at the start we do lots of spec work, updating our portfolio etc. There's no right or wrong here, just what works for you and what you feel more comfortable doing.

    This is such valuable information, especially for people like me who are still in the early stages of figuring out how the business side works.
    If you don't mind me asking, how did you go about the process of finding/acquiring a rep? Are reps paid on a regular basis or do they only get commission when you are hired for a project?
    Thank you again for sharing! 💖

    • @plainlysimple
      @plainlysimple  3 роки тому

      Hi Anna! Great question. In our case the rep went to us maybe they saw one of our IG post or behance. They only get commission when we are hired for a project. I think it depends on who the rep is, some rep you are required to pay for a monthly fee plus commission when you get hired. For our case we didn't have to pay for a monthly fee just the commission when we get hired. Also we have now made the skillshare class free so you can check out the added content :)
