I didn’t particularly love these first two episodes. It just felt so boring, and it felt like nothing really happened. And I get that this series isn’t really meant to be centered around Godzilla or the Kaiju. I’d be fine with a more human storyline if the human storyline was entertaining, but it just wasn’t. Of course, it will likely get better as time passes, but it’s not really leaving a good first impression on me.
Cate’s PTSD is such a brilliant addition to the story it feels so realistic, and I love that they remember Godzilla is not a hero, he’s the definition of True Neutral Godzilla acknowledges us but he doesn’t like us.
Exactly, people have to understand that Godzilla, at the very least, only tolerates humanity, as insignificant beings but with tricks up their sleeves, and the fact that in this series they are treating him like a dangerous wild animal is very real
I understand the ptsd but does that really mean she has to be insufferable to literally every person she meets lol like holy she has been very unlikable so far
This show is what we, Monsterverse fan, need. No cringy dialogues, the human character's story is intriguing and they actually have charisma to keep your interest throughout the runtime. The monster scenes though short but feel much more impactful just by how little they were shown here, which is one of many reason I seriously want Monsterverse to follow this style after Godzilla 2014. Man can't wait for episode 3!

I can't wait to watch it. I have been dying for a story driven Monsterverse movie or a show like this since I was a kid watching the G-Man movies back in the 70's all the way up to now lol. Godzilla 2014 is garbage focusing too much on Bryan Cranston when the movie is called Godzilla bring the Better Fantasy/Sci-Fi things when it comes to Godzilla for serious tones are just better as One-Offs.

I also really appreciated Tokyo having missile batteries as a reference to the japanese movies while at the same time Americans spent money on super jets and stuff you see in King of Monsters which means they care more on their military effectiveness than safety of their citizens
Overall a good start to the series. The human characters didn't annoy me so that's a plus. My only critique is that barely any monsters were shown. I understand it's only the first 2 episodes and their appearance will be limited due to budget restrictions. But I hope they have more scenes in future episodes. I would be very happy with a 75% human/25% monster split of screentime.
Sorry, but beg to differ greatly on the Intro. This is the best titles sequence for any Apple TV+ show and because of its flow, score and clever use of graphic elements emphasizing the theme of the series' duality (in every sense of the word). It hooks you into the mystery and suspense tonalities of the show both literally and symbolically. It's perfect for this series and is, in my opinion the equal of "Game Of Thrones" opening titles.
Now back to the 50s hahaha. I'm loving this show. It's better than most and the best show on Apple TV + since Prehistoric Planet. Also back to the future

DUDE I just watched the episodes, I'm so damn HYPE, I need MORE. I love this show already and just been 2 episodes in, the budget of this thing, how? those monsters looks so good, seen Goji 2014 again was so damn awesome, Cate PTSD memories where handle so well, and I love the back and forward story telling (remind me to ARROW, but in a great way, both timelines are sooo damn interesting). In the 50s both Shaw and Randa are about the same age. However Randa looks 50-60s in Kong skull island in 1973. But Shaw in 2015 looks 50-60 40 years after long skull island. Plot hole?
I didn't like the fact that Apple didn't release this in full wide screen. I have a 5120 x 2160 monitor and I couldn't get this thing to play full screen.
I liked it, but sadly Kate's character isn't too well written. The ptsd is great but not how she's kinda insufferable towards everyone around her. On the other hand, conveniently for kotaro having a somewhat seems to b ex who's also a hacker is a bit of a too much of a stretch. Hackers aren't just willy nilly easily found. There should've been a bit of hunting and researching to find a hacker to help them. Though I do understand that they may have limits on how much minute's they can have for the films/episodes. The ex also doesn't really sell it to me either. But I do really enjoy the past story a lot more with shaw and Billy and the grandma. Sorry forgot the lady scientist's name. Story's building up decently at least. But the past scenario story building is quite a bit better than the present day scenario.
If you didn’t like the hacker part Take that up with the writers. It’s hard to sell a product that is just not that good. Actors are products of good or bad scripts.
Honestly I love it so much.. The main theme tune, cryptozoology being fully incorporated into a Godzilla show, the mysteries surrounding the monsters, radiation and of course family relationships. Also loving the time jumps too, it really helps with the lore of the Monsterverse. Can’t wait for episode 3 on Wednesday.
You don't don't know shit about the lore of the Monsterverse if all you care about is garbage human characters for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire movie will go crazy with the lore and mythology.

Everything about this show is a build up of what's to come. It's giving us a backstory and modern day in each episode. That i like very much. I like the incorporation of Japan and them speaking Japanese as well. Although i will say that they should have had those moments/scenes translated better. Regardless, this is proving itself to be a nice addition to the franchise. Were obviously seeing more character development here which is always a good thing to establish your characters. And i think we'll probably be seeing more monster interaction towards the middle to end of this 10 episode series. I also fully expect there to be a season 2 and beyond that goes without question. Or at least i'm hoping it does. However, as others pointed out if your just looking for kaiju on kaiju action. This probably isn't for you. There are other movies for that.
Honestly this show seems like it can hold it's own without the big G man. He's a big plus but Rather they introduced another major Titan like jet jaguar 🤞 doubt it tho

Second episode was a big improvement over the first. Lore staff is always worth watching. It's great that they decided to delve further into Randa's past.
This show is what the MonsterVerse has been missing for a long time! I love the mystery element of it, and the whole darker and more serious tone, which is a fantastic callback to 2014 Godzilla! Personally, I think that the amount of MUTOs shown is very satisfying, because we get a build-up to the reveal everytime time, re-ewoking that mythical, mysterious and epic feeling these monsters gave us to begin with. If you show too many monsters all the time, they might get over-exposed. Even though some people had hoped to see more monsters, I really enjoy the characters and their stories, which at the same time reveals the origins of Monarch, the central theme of the story. Also, Cate's guilt over not being able to save the school bus filled with children, seeing it fall in the water, that must be traumatizing her as much as having witnessed Godzilla up close! The show has only aired two episodes, but I'm really hooked already! I can't wait to see what comes next! Hopefully we'll get to explore more of the Hollow Earth, and see the Shobijin (Twin Fairies), and, since it's been established with Ghidorah, that MUTOs don't only exist on Earth, but come from space as well, perhaps that means they will uncover more of that aspects of the MonsterVerse too! That's one of the things I really enjoy about this universe: there is so much lore to explore! It's a universe rich for storytelling!
actually the only thing that bugged me was 19:25 this scene when they were looking at the secret files and MAY says "What's she standing in?" Like duh... you live in a time of Godzilla. Obviously it's his footprint 🤦♀🙄😒
Interesting, even tho the Ropen is a cryptid from new guinea while this titan is from the phillipines they might give a different name possibly gyaos just for hints for another famous monster character entering the MV. But the name ropen is still possible 🤔.
For me, the character I’m cautious of is the Hacker Girl Character May, tie roping that line between okay and annoying, and seeming ripped from the MCU or an Extra in KOTM
The show delves deep into all the characters and you learn much more about who she is and she becomes compelling. I had the same worries as you, but all the characters here are good.

Destoroyah on the other hand was able to separate himself into smaller but still giant versions of himself, he could either start an apocalypse of his own with that alone. @@ZachRoDah Actually, it depends on both studios' decisions with Kadokawa Studios to see if they're OK with gamera entering the MV. Plus, toho doesn't have a problem with or issue with gamera nor the studios since they have collabed during the heisei trilogy from 1995-1999 its just that they're dealing with budget issues And it's still possible that there could be hints, and easter eggs where gamera might appear in the franchise since he's another iconic monster along with Godzilla and Kong and would be suitable as another alpha titan. But that all depends on legendary and toho themselves whether they add him or not by making a deal and cooperating with Kadokawa Studios
3 alpha titans existing in the same universe would be overkill. Besides Godzilla always pops up wherever titans are active or fighting. So right now with the gamera show both timelines can’t happen at the same time.
I think it’s good that the story of this world is being better built upon. We see how people exploring the existence of these monsters in the 50s went about studying them or stumbling upon them. And based on the point in time that Shaw and Randa meet I’m guessing we might just see the events of Godzilla Awakening play out; The meeting of Eji Serizawa and possibly Shinomura’s awakening in the Monsterverse. One snippet that I think hints to what we might see in the future of this tv series, was when Godzilla emerged from the ground in a desert, this may hint to the events of Aftershocks coinciding with this show, meaning the hat MUTO Prime might just be getting ready to make a live action appearance.
Great video Jacob. Thanks for your time and effort on it. I for one appreciate it. We just finished one and two and I thought they were fantastic. It kept my interest, especially the flashbacks to young Shaw and Randa, and the addition of Cate’s PTSD is brilliant. Showing a school bus full of children dying was a holy hell moment but that is a truth to something like a Godzilla showing up. People will die. He’s not doing it on purpose. But it will happen. The tone of G14 is what should have been kept and at least this is doing it. Can’t wait for next week!
Think it is aimed at existing fans rather than capturing new ones. It’s quite a slow burn, with very little action and no compelling Titans and kaiju, which is what casual fans would want. The bugs and the ‘dragon’ are a bit ‘meh’ on that front. Also, the CGI isn’t great in parts, like the ‘dragon’ and John Goodman’s age-reversed face, it’s not significantly better that some stuff you’d see on the Sci-Fi Channel. Really need the secrets they’re digging for to be big, twisty revelations.

I like how Godzilla is not seen as a hero or this "good guy" thing alot people keep thinking he is. Some people I have seen in the past are always thinking Monsterverse Godzilla is this human savior and hero to humanity or the "good guy" when he never was a hero for mankind to begin with. Idk if its mainstream audiences that think that Godzilla is this supposed hero because he is not actively attacking mankind because i have seen comments on social media with mainstream outlets of people saying he is this international hero here in the US but when you really look in depth at he does not give a flying fuck about humanity. He tolerates humanity at most. He is good in the sense of protecting the planet and maintaining natural order but people need to realize that does not equate to him being a human savior or the "good guy" just because he doesn't attack humans out of malice. If you read the comics like Dominion and even GvK shows he has no problems attacking humans in retaliation. Its just that everyone thought he turned "evil" because he began attacking humans.
Have to disagree here a bit. While godzilla is indifferent to humanity on an individual level, he is also keeping the other titans under wraps seemingly for humanity, as a whole, sake. He is at least somewhat mindful of humans and their structuers in the first movie. he didn't blow straight through the bridge, until he got agitated enough do so.
I think it's really cool that we get a deep dive of what life would be like if one day just giant monsters lived alongside us. In some weird crazy future where it's normal, amazing show
ok so i believe that flashback part of episode 1 takes place in 1959 and the flashback in episode 2 takes place in either 1952 or 1953 and modern takes place in 2015
I prefer few and very good action scenes rather than a lot of short ones which can rake attention from the plot and characters and even come as exhausting to watch

Excellent the time shift is easy to follow. The beasties are very creative. The egg hatchling remind me of the first Rodan when the miners were pulled under water. I will enjoy the next episodes.

Honestly I hated the dialogue and acting on the first episode, safe somo exceptions. Also I found the CGI underwhelming. By the second episode I was mostly fine with it all, definitely not thrilled, but curious.
I thought the first 3 episodes were slow and not very interesting. Pace was killing me. Some of the acting was drab. So I’m hoping the future episodes picks up the pace and the acting gets better. I was expecting more/better to be honest. But that’s just my opinion.

the japanese girl is annoying af. the mysterious secret between the japanese girl and boy are lame af. the back and forth past and future is pretty bad. (the japanese woman acting is superb though gotta give her that). story buildup is weak. the story focus on humans too much. (though i can relate from us "humans" point of view searching for gigantic monsters) those monsters are gigantic in size, humans at that time already have highly advanced satelites around the orbit to easily look for them or at least detect them immediately when they appear.
Really hate the time skip forward and back constantly. If it keeps going I will just stop watching. With such a good story to go off we don't need to constantly be going forward and back in time.
i dont like current age characters aside from Russell of course, they are unlikeable n painful to watch... i just skip to the 50s scene whenever those unbearable characters show up...
we get one fun cgi monster chase thats 5 mins, the rest of the 2 episodes is generic boring badly told backstory and exposition and its all by the numbers.

In the 50s both Shaw and Randa are about the same age. However Randa looks 50-60s in Kong skull island in 1973. But Shaw in 2015 looks 50-60 40 years after long skull island. Plot hole?

I liked it, but sadly Kate's character isn't too well written. The ptsd is great but not how she's kinda insufferable towards everyone around her. On the other hand, conveniently for kotaro having a somewhat seems to b ex who's also a hacker is a bit of a too much of a stretch. Hackers aren't just willy nilly easily found. There should've been a bit of hunting and researching to find a hacker to help them. Though I do understand that they may have limits on how much minute's they can have for the films/episodes. The ex also doesn't really sell it to me either. But I do really enjoy the past story a lot more with shaw and Billy and the grandma. Sorry forgot the lady scientist's name. Story's building up decently at least. But the past scenario story building is quite a bit better than the present day scenario.
If you didn’t like the hacker part Take that up with the writers. It’s hard to sell a product that is just not that good. Actors are products of good or bad scripts.

Honestly I love it so much.. The main theme tune, cryptozoology being fully incorporated into a Godzilla show, the mysteries surrounding the monsters, radiation and of course family relationships. Also loving the time jumps too, it really helps with the lore of the Monsterverse. Can’t wait for episode 3 on Wednesday.

Not every Titan needs to be Giant for they could easily show Matango from in a Future Monsterverse as a Low-budget Horror movie.
Everything about this show is a build up of what's to come. It's giving us a backstory and modern day in each episode. That i like very much. I like the incorporation of Japan and them speaking Japanese as well. Although i will say that they should have had those moments/scenes translated better. Regardless, this is proving itself to be a nice addition to the franchise. Were obviously seeing more character development here which is always a good thing to establish your characters. And i think we'll probably be seeing more monster interaction towards the middle to end of this 10 episode series. I also fully expect there to be a season 2 and beyond that goes without question. Or at least i'm hoping it does. However, as others pointed out if your just looking for kaiju on kaiju action. This probably isn't for you. There are other movies for that.
As long as Godzilla puts a good beating on some of these new monsters, I’m good.

Second episode was a big improvement over the first. Lore staff is always worth watching. It's great that they decided to delve further into Randa's past.
This show is what the MonsterVerse has been missing for a long time! I love the mystery element of it, and the whole darker and more serious tone, which is a fantastic callback to 2014 Godzilla!
Personally, I think that the amount of MUTOs shown is very satisfying, because we get a build-up to the reveal everytime time, re-ewoking that mythical, mysterious and epic feeling these monsters gave us to begin with. If you show too many monsters all the time, they might get over-exposed.
Even though some people had hoped to see more monsters, I really enjoy the characters and their stories, which at the same time reveals the origins of Monarch, the central theme of the story. Also, Cate's guilt over not being able to save the school bus filled with children, seeing it fall in the water, that must be traumatizing her as much as having witnessed Godzilla up close!
The show has only aired two episodes, but I'm really hooked already! I can't wait to see what comes next!
Hopefully we'll get to explore more of the Hollow Earth, and see the Shobijin (Twin Fairies), and, since it's been established with Ghidorah, that MUTOs don't only exist on Earth, but come from space as well, perhaps that means they will uncover more of that aspects of the MonsterVerse too!
That's one of the things I really enjoy about this universe: there is so much lore to explore! It's a universe rich for storytelling!
I can't wait to see Godzilla appear in the desert somewhere.

For me, the character I’m cautious of is the Hacker Girl Character May, tie roping that line between okay and annoying, and seeming ripped from the MCU or an Extra in KOTM
The show delves deep into all the characters and you learn much more about who she is and she becomes compelling. I had the same worries as you, but all the characters here are good.

The hacker is fine it’s the writers who need to do better at making her more relatable to the story. I not very fond of the acting either.

Destoroyah on the other hand was able to separate himself into smaller but still giant versions of himself, he could either start an apocalypse of his own with that alone. Maybe like Shin Godzilla he makes very human sized clones of himself that cause devastation all around the world.

Plus, toho doesn't have a problem with or issue with gamera nor the studios since they have collabed during the heisei trilogy from 1995-1999 its just that they're dealing with budget issues
And it's still possible that there could be hints, and easter eggs where gamera might appear in the franchise since he's another iconic monster along with Godzilla and Kong and would be suitable as another alpha titan.
But that all depends on legendary and toho themselves whether they add him or not by making a deal and cooperating with Kadokawa Studios

I think it’s good that the story of this world is being better built upon. We see how people exploring the existence of these monsters in the 50s went about studying them or stumbling upon them. And based on the point in time that Shaw and Randa meet I’m guessing we might just see the events of Godzilla Awakening play out; The meeting of Eji Serizawa and possibly Shinomura’s awakening in the Monsterverse.
One snippet that I think hints to what we might see in the future of this tv series, was when Godzilla emerged from the ground in a desert, this may hint to the events of Aftershocks coinciding with this show, meaning the hat MUTO Prime might just be getting ready to make a live action appearance.
Great video Jacob. Thanks for your time and effort on it. I for one appreciate it. We just finished one and two and I thought they were fantastic. It kept my interest, especially the flashbacks to young Shaw and Randa, and the addition of Cate’s PTSD is brilliant. Showing a school bus full of children dying was a holy hell moment but that is a truth to something like a Godzilla showing up. People will die. He’s not doing it on purpose. But it will happen. The tone of G14 is what should have been kept and at least this is doing it. Can’t wait for next week!
Think it is aimed at existing fans rather than capturing new ones. It’s quite a slow burn, with very little action and no compelling Titans and kaiju, which is what casual fans would want. The bugs and the ‘dragon’ are a bit ‘meh’ on that front. Also, the CGI isn’t great in parts, like the ‘dragon’ and John Goodman’s age-reversed face, it’s not significantly better that some stuff you’d see on the Sci-Fi Channel. Really need the secrets they’re digging for to be big, twisty revelations.

I like how Godzilla is not seen as a hero or this "good guy" thing alot people keep thinking he is. Some people I have seen in the past are always thinking Monsterverse Godzilla is this human savior and hero to humanity or the "good guy" when he never was a hero for mankind to begin with. Idk if its mainstream audiences that think that Godzilla is this supposed hero because he is not actively attacking mankind because i have seen comments on social media with mainstream outlets of people saying he is this international hero here in the US but when you really look in depth at he does not give a flying fuck about humanity. He tolerates humanity at most. He is good in the sense of protecting the planet and maintaining natural order but people need to realize that does not equate to him being a human savior or the "good guy" just because he doesn't attack humans out of malice. If you read the comics like Dominion and even GvK shows he has no problems attacking humans in retaliation. Its just that everyone thought he turned "evil" because he began attacking humans.
Have to disagree here a bit. While godzilla is indifferent to humanity on an individual level, he is also keeping the other titans under wraps seemingly for humanity, as a whole, sake.
He is at least somewhat mindful of humans and their structuers in the first movie. he didn't blow straight through the bridge, until he got agitated enough do so.
I think it's really cool that we get a deep dive of what life would be like if one day just giant monsters lived alongside us. In some weird crazy future where it's normal, amazing show

flashback part of episode 1 takes place in 1959
and the flashback in episode 2 takes place in either 1952 or 1953
and modern takes place in 2015
Look up Bagorah from the Dark Horse Godzilla comics, it has a very close resemblance to the winged Kaiju in the Monarch show.

Anyone else noticed, that many of the new titans (Kaiju), have a bit of a Ultraman, or Gamera feel to them?
I prefer few and very good action scenes rather than a lot of short ones which can rake attention from the plot and characters and even come as exhausting to watch
The pacing and the way they drop clues is very reminiscent of X-Files and Chris Black's influence. So far I am liking the show.

Honestly I hated the dialogue and acting on the first episode, safe somo exceptions. Also I found the CGI underwhelming. By the second episode I was mostly fine with it all, definitely not thrilled, but curious.
I thought the first 3 episodes were slow and not very interesting. Pace was killing me. Some of the acting was drab.
So I’m hoping the future episodes picks up the pace and the acting gets better. I was expecting more/better to be honest. But that’s just my opinion.

those monsters are gigantic in size, humans at that time already have highly advanced satelites around the orbit to easily look for them or at least detect them immediately when they appear.
