you blokes are having a go and building it yourself that's the main thing (safety thongs are questionable lol), i find it's a lot more fun when you do it yourself rather than paying someone to do it, and you always learn everytime you do one, can only get better from now on
This is a pretty good video! It shows all the little detailed things you are doing. As a boilermaker/sheet metal fabricator, all looks good but the welds haha. Sorry to say! Couple tips, always push the mig, don't drag it, and you guys need a fair bit more amps, leave the wire speed as it is. A fair few welds are very cold and some of them will not hold at all. But other than that, keep it up! You'll keep getting better with practice! Depending on where you guys are, I'm on the Sunshine Coast, maybe I can help set that welder right for yas!
Awesome! The main goal for the day was to just get it to hold together and put it on the Ute! Final welds will be done off the Ute again! And what I will do is go around and grind back all the crap welds and re do them! We are also on the Sunshine Coast, but I wouldn’t expect you to do that!! I can play around with it untill it’s nice and hot!!
The tray looks so mint mate, have done a beautiful job. I want to almost the exact same tray if I ever get another ute or chop my wagon. Keep it up man
What a weapon, I am pretty much at the same stage with my custom dmax tray, but mines still on axle stands in the shed. Watching this makes me keen as to see mine and yours finished. Top effort mate. 🤙
little bit of advise, you dont need to vertical up on that sort of gear mate, turn up that inverter and verty down. Also dont drag just push. Good fun mate good to watch, nothing better than doing builds with mates
im a boilermaker and i think for two guys who dont weld everyday u did ok the build is looking good, but next time dont weld the top section where u r placing ur plate as when u put ur plate down u can stitch weld it down but good effort
Hey mate! Thanks for your comment!! Also I’m Going with an alloy floor! I wasn’t going to weld it but I figured it’s better than a crack where potentially sand and moisture can get into the box section! What would you suggest in that scenario!
@@RoamLyfe sikaflex any whole u see but make sure u can still paint over it and sikaflex the alloy sheet when placing the tray down . try and get the corners nice and square so the alloy fits nice and easy
Sabotaging your mates welds so you don’t have to shout lunch 😂 Realising those welds are holding your tray together 😳 Great vid keen to see how it looks finished🤙🏻
is that 2mm or 3mm steel? im planning on doing mines, but im afraid 2mm is to weak and i think 3mm is going to be to heavy, what you recommend? putting it in a mazda bravo
Hey guys, how sure are you the box mounts 50x50x50 will be strong enough to stop the tray moving into the cab should you reverse into a bank or tree ??
Hey mate, where you have the rails sitting on the blocks, it would be good to close off one side of the blocks (so you can still get in from one side. With weight in the back, there is not a lot to stop them from collapsing or folding over from a lateral impact to the tray...
Okay mate I’ll do that! I also thought about welding a large piece of steel to the back of it to strengthen it up! If I had my time again I’d get thicker box for that!
Hey bro im making a tray aswell but i can't seem to get that angle on the headboard right to i just made it square instead of it being angled. Any ideas?
Hahaha yeah me and the welder arnt the best of friends 😂😂 but in all fairness I’ve left most of the welding not done just so I can do back and actually take my time with it!
Hey mate awesome build. Just a quick question when you painted with raptor did you use a HVLP gravity gun or standard I love the finish and about to paint my tray.
Boilermaker by trade and those welds are shit lol. But was a great end result and you had a go and did it to yourself. You also beat your mates effort 😃... Nice build you doing...
Hahaha yeah we definitely don’t claim to have the best welds 😂😂😂! We did turn the welder up and go over them tho so they will be strong as! I just believe the only way to get better is to have a crack! Cheers mate!
Deciding weather or not to make a tray on my nav, does it look as complicated as it looks or is it piss easy. Just basic math obviously some engineering
Which one is the best weld? Who is the tallest dwarf? Both ordinary but your right the fat one wins no penetration you can actually see daylight between the weld and the side rail
@@RoamLyfe you look like you did a pretty good job cutting those angles, folded up perfect the bevel wouldnt have made much difference. It’s coming along nice !

Good on ya mate! I’m a fabricator by trade you blokes have done a great job for non trade!
Wow! Thanks mate, means a lot coming from a fabricator! Your job is much more involved than it looks!

Wow that’s crazy! Thanks for watching legend!
the amount of detail put into this is impressive! love ya vids bro

Another minticle vid bro. Loving it! More amps in the mig mate. Keep the gas pressure up on the argon sweet welds guaranteed
Will do!! I haven’t completed hardly any of the welds so I’ll make sure it’s nice and strong!
This thing is looking mint! Can't wait to see it rolling around the coast.
