ahhh appreciate the come back .......... well , when I was a kid ..45 now , I went to see the movie when they made it . My fathers friend ran the teamsters and they ran the show . Anyways , we went to shark city and the other sights , not understanding how big this movie would become later . I had the original Jaws film crew tshirts and everything.......wish I still had them . I loved Quint...he was the balls .
According to Operation Orca it is the largest actual scale model. It is 52.5" long and each inch of this Orca represents a foot on the actual boat. I would well it if the price was right, but am in no hurry to do so. JT of Operation Orca build the difficult parts/hull of this ship. With the attention to detail, studying the actual ship, 100's of hours effort...I don't think anybody could actually make a great living crafting these. I better keep my day job!
Thanks. Jesse Thompson did the Hull and frame on this one. He sells Orca's from time to time on E-Bay (Usually they are smaller at 30-40 inches in length still nice). You can contact him through the Operation Orca website. There is also a model available on E-bay that's a foot long and was mass produced by Todd Mcfarlane called Movie Maniacs Jaws. In box sealed they are 100.00 Out of the box usually 20-50.00 Back in 1979 when I was 5 Jaws was my favorite show PERIOD. Watched it 50X by age 6!
Thanks...That's my OCD being put to great use! It still bugs me that the back lettering (is off) and front wrapped green box is too big. Once I get enough time (I've got 3 little kids) I will take the ORCA down and make her near perfection...Glass windows will be going in too... The current windows are mylar/plastic I am humbled that so many people enjoy this replica model. Thanks again so much, Scott
Thanks!. It's hull is fiberglass, so technically it should float. I haven't balanced her our though and probably never will attempt too... Maybe I could do it this summer when the Orca is 100% completed!
You have some cool stuff. The Orca was my favorite character in the film... I was only 5 when I first saw JAWS, but I really was fascinated by that boat. OCD or something like that I guess :-)
Thanks a bunch. I take that as a NICE compliment considering the McFarlane is great and all... But only 9 inches or so long (I've got one next to this ORCA on the shelf) It's easier getting things more accurate at nearly 4 and a half feet long, but much more detailing is involved. I do love the McFarlane one though at at under 100 bucks it's a must for all ORCA/JAWS fans and always on E-Bay sometimes for 40 bucks loose!
I became a commercial fisherman just because of his charecter after after college . I regret that now , but I still love that movie . We play it on a big screen on the back of my sailboat almost every night...............I want a ORCA model so bad , I thought of gettingn old lobster boat and building it myself . Ahhh my own ORCA ....every guys dream . Garvey
Here is what happened to the ORCA(s). There were 2 used in the movie. one was an actual boat. The other...The ORCA 2 was one that could sink on command (used in the final quint scene). The ORCA 2 rotten on a beach near Marthas Vinyard (There's a piece of it in the deck box of my model). The ORCA 1 stayed at universal studios "outside" until the early 1990's and an attempt was made to take it and do restoration work. It broke and was rotted beyond any chance of saving it! SAD, BUT 100% TRUE!!!
thanks for your kind comments on the Jaws Vid! thats one great Orca boat you got there...didn't know how big it was until i saw a can of pop or coke sitting on the table to give it sum scale. does it float ? haha V well done, very good detail. Also do another vid of it with some bright lighinting..or take it outside n film it. thanks again!
so wait.............is there a model .....I mean one you can buy online or a store..........Ive never seen one and would love to build this .......I love that one ............Jaws is the best movie ever
Nice replica. I've always wondered if the original boat is preserved somewhere by Universal or Spielberg, or if any full sized replica was ever made. Sadly, the Orca probably had an even worst fate than Bruce does being at a junk yard.
yea ........I did................. cool site . You know what the problem w/ a full scale boat is , most yards will not let you hual out a wooden boat any more , much less store it . Rediculous but true . At least here in New England .
They are working on a full size one on Operation Orca and the mini's they sell go towards the full-scale ships construction. Check out E-Bay and enter Jaws Orca into the search. Then click Completed listings. You will see jlt13th on item #180261185025 This is Jesse and his last one which was a bit under half the size of the one in this video. Went for 330.00 and looks great (330 was a steal IMO). You should join Operation Orca!
Thats awesome, I've always loved the Orca. Most of my friends and I were born in 1980, and Jaws is still one of our favorites!
