JAWSome. Love the background music. Spielberg use to go sit in the Orca when it was in the backlot. Just to think. He went there 1 day & it was being scrapped. He grabbed a few souvenirs. They are in his office. I have the hardcover edition of Memories from Martha's Vineyard with the 1 inch piece of the Orca 2 ( resinkable). Best shark MOVIE EVER. Was the billboard hang in backlot the OG from movie. And saw the original boat from Gilligans Island before it was modified. It looked almost the same as what the Orca looked like before it was made into the Orca.
Not sure if you are aware that Master Shipwright Louis Sauzedde is creating a copy of Orca on the East coast. His UA-cam channel is called Tips from a Shipwright.
The people they hired to remodel the boat for the movie did an incredible job. When they bought the boat back it was never the same. Where was Hollywood before this boat struggling with B movies. They owe a lot to that boat. The real heroes are the ones that got it ready for the movie. The Orca was a big character as well.
The Orca was beached on a marsh in Menemsha, Martha’s Vineyard in 1977 and my friends and myself climbed on it and up the mast for pictures. The transom was gone. Probably for the last shot in the movie when the shark climbed up on it.
There were 2 Orcas, the full functional one, and a mock up that they used to sink and refloat, the one you saw at Martha's Vineyard was the mock up that was in private property, the true one was bought by Universal to the MGM studios to be there on the "Jaws Ride", unfortunately, when they were trying to hoist the vessel to do major repairs on the hull and decks , and because the vessel was full of water, the now fragile hull wasn't enable to hold all that weight and broke in 2.

Did you ever go (Or consider going) to the original manufacturer of the boat for any dimensional information?? I started a CG model years ago and way trying to figure out some real world dimensions. For example, all the planks of wood...... If you know the width, then you can use that as a measuring tool to figure other stuff out.
Does anyone know the original make and model of the original boat? "1940s Nova Scotia-style 29 foot lobster boat named "Warlock" seems to be the common info. Where was she built, by what boatyard, were there any more like her? Etc.
Thanks! 2 for the movie; the working boat (see vid) and the sinking Orca aka Orca II. They did build a small section of the wheelhouse for the shark to smash thru too.
Spielberg tells the story of how he used to go to hide out on the Orca when it was at Universal to "Get away from it all" and one day it was just 'gone'. They never told him that they were going scrap it.
Why are you using the main theme from Jaws 2 when this is about the ORCA? you should had used the Out to sea theme from the Jaws soundtrack not the Jaws 2 one
Copyright issues 😢. Plus JAWS 2 opens with finding the wreck of the Orca so in essence I’m hoping to resurrect the boat. The score is great to J2 as well
This theme is quite appropriate for the ORCA, the same theme playing when the divers at JAWS 2 discovered the sunken Orca, and we are revisiting the Orca again, the theme fits like a glove.
They scrap the most iconic boat of all time??? Sickening!!!!

Here lies the body of Mary Lee. Died at the age of 103. For fifteen years she kept her virginity. That's quite a record for this vicinity.
The joke ends with "Not a bad record for this vicinity"
I just made the orca out of cardboard it's my favorite boat very iconic like the batmobile you just know it when you see it
That's how a boat for an adventure should look like!

I am indeed! Really slow going but enjoying the build process
@@Oldmonstrosityshop I’ve heard Lou’s health is getting better and he’s on the mend. Positive thoughts for him, he’s an icon.

It really was a character in the movie!
Great vide, the Orca was just as important to movie as all three actors were
Amazing the studio let it rot.....today somebody would pay one million for it in a Hollywood memorabilia auction.
Hey chief.....ya bring your rubbers???....the best line in the history of cinema
💯😂😂
@@scorptarget lol
The line is I see ya brought your rubbers
@@cjdavis2684 thank you siskel and ebert. Two thumbs up ya ass!!..lol.
I love how the digital calipers 02:16 are set at 1975!
Haha I wondered if anybody would spot that 😂

I'm jealous.
I don't know about that story
Nice old tub, probably a tuna boat in the 60s
for the longest time since i saw the movie, i've always wanted the orca as a fishing boat!
2:18 I like the fact that the measuring stick thing says 1975.
It’s all in the details 😁
I think you're gonna need a bigger boat! Lol!

Lewis from Tips from A Shipwright put a new keil main bow four footer all the way to the sturn aft prop drive and all last year in Ct.
Yep he posted a transom video a couple of weeks back I think. Looks to be a fantastic build
Nice

🦈super !!
You may not have room for a full size Orca, but Louis does! ua-cam.com/play/PLzlN3A2DLgNxQIXe1KbpzL7bhl10J3PEN.html
Yep I can’t wait to see how he gets on 👍
Typical that Universal used it as an amusement park prop without bothering to maintain it. Just let it rot away. Corporate types.
Think they made 3 ,,for the film 📽️????? Maybe wrong best wishes from Durham England

Such a shame that the Orca was left to rot away. It should have gone to the Smithsonian.
