Right at the node you would hope that the signal is as "Fresh" as it can be.. I deal with small private CATV RFoG setups. 2db in light loss is big for a system that was already built out. I imagine 2 db light loss directly resulted in the RF output level dropping, someone probably made some adjustments juicing up the output of the Amp but probably couldn't get the MER out of the gutter. Returning 2 db back could also have consequences If the Node's pads and adjustments were tampered with, the amp can overdrive and cross modulate. it would be interesting to see if all the channels were experiencing low MER or just a select few. The RF over glass stuff is very sensitive to reflections, but I Imagine you would have seen that in your OTDR
I have node on our HFC plant that constantly has uncorrected errors. They are not terrible but sometimes does affect all modems. It comes and goes throughout the week. I wonder if it's due to loss similar to this.
Are your MER issues on the LTE frequencies? I’ve had this issue numerous times where MERs would tank randomly and it all stemmed from a radial crack on the hardline.
Very nice video!
When are we all getting more?
