To avoid putting a puddle of paint like he did with the brush at the end, you want to shake up the bottle, slowly pull out the brush WHILE moving your hand in a circular motion so that the surface of the brush touches the neck of the bottle, and excess paint is drained back into the bottle. As you pull out the bristles of the brush, you want to make sure one side of the tip of the brush is gently pressed against the neck of the bottle to empty more excess paint back into the bottle. You want just a small drop of paint on one side of the brush so that you can easily apply and control the paint. Remember its wayyy easier to grab more paint and apply another coat than to clean a puddle of paint from your car. Every time you dip the brush back into the bottle for more paint, repeat the swirling motion and again press one side of the tip of the brush against the neck of the bottle as you pull it out to empty excess paint. You only want a small drop of paint. With that small drop of paint, apply an even thin coat and allow to dry for 5 minutes between each coat. Apply as many even thin coats as you need. The result will look better and last longer with 2 - 5 even thin coats compared to one thick puddle of paint. For those with shaky hands that tend to smear too much onto surrounding areas: when applying the paint to the car, turn your left hand into a fist, and place it underneath your right hand. Then, extend your left index and middle finger. Rest the tip of your right pinky finger slightly on the tip of your left index finger. This establishes an anchor for more stability and precision for your application. You can move and rotate your right hand freely, as long as the tip of your right pinky finger is resting on the tip of your left index finger there is a noticeable difference in stability. This is the professional method used at nail salons for grabbing just enough nail polish, enhancing precision of the paint application, while eliminating instability and shakiness that causes smearing.
It's good always wipe down paint with rubbing alcohol to remove wax or cominents. Once touch up is applied, I use a super thin plastic card to remove excess paint and let dry.. it end up even with factory paint depth. Easy as 1 2 3
Nice video was gonna pay to have this done on my nissan i just bought but this video is gonna help me save some money looks easy plus i like detailing so this is gonna be fun!
Should show wet sanding and polishing process…Iv’e seen way too many people damage a large area by wet sanding through today’s factory paint because it’s so thin.
This video gets you a subscriber. Just bout a car about 2 months ago and I have two chips in the paint about the size of the first two you corrected. Did not know you could use it on one the size of that last one. Do you have to do anything to those when the paint dries. I heard you mention wet sanding that larger one. Do you have a video showing how to do this.
I accidentally hit a curb and a dip in a parking lot (entering it) and scratched my bottom bumper on my 2020 Honda Civic Si Coupe. Gonna try this when it's nice out and see how it works. Thanks for the video.
Sadly, the color does not blend in well, you can always find where Touchup Paint has been used. You will need WAX REMOVER and then wash/rinse with Distilled Water and let air dry. Do it when the car surface is Cool to Touch and Ambient Air Temperature between 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. It needs to dry for 4 to 8 hours before driving and keep out of the rain. Wait 3 days before buffing or polishing the area. Cover with your favorite wax. Sometimes the new paint does not adhere to the chipped surface, and will reappear. Clean the area better, use a primer, allow to dry and then repaint. Today's vehicles all factory paint jobs are easy to get chipped because they use micro thin layers and water-based paint which is a Soft Paint. Paint work is shallow and gets damaged easily. PPF "Paint Protection Film" and Ceramic Coatings will not prevent scratches, dings, dents, or chips to your vehicle body. If your vehicle is worth less than $75K, getting PPF or Ceramic Coating is a huge waste of your money. It is a loss if you become involved in an accident, someone keys your vehicles, as generally have to pay to get the PPF /ceramic coating done again. Better off purchasing a Car Alarm System with Shock and Motion sensor and a nice Dash Cam. Could always get a custom made car cover.
This is why I don't use these pens any more. Yes, it will cover your chips but it definitely leaves either a bump of paint or a valley after it dries. The only way to really get it to look good is to wet sand it and then spray a clear coat but if you are going to do that then might as well sand back and spray the color coat as well.
Well, it's a "touch up" pen, not a paint correction pen. It's good for dabbing the little pock marks so that they don't eventually start to rust and spread.
this is why ive been debating getting something like this or just taking my car into a shop , the chips and scratches arent terrible but then i would just end up leaving more damage in paint than i did chipping and scratch.
@@timmcguire5022 for the relatively cheap price of having a shop do it professionally compared to the cost of the vehicle I would let the experts do it. These touch up pens or for very small chips only
Dot caaaaarrrrm. Jesus, if that's a paint repair company I don't think I'd take my car there. He gets a brush and creates a huge mound of paint on a small chip. If that's his idea of a thin coat I'd hate to see him paint a car, he'd probably use a 12" painters lambs wool roller!
I used touch up paint on a red car same color and the color came out darker. There was dark red lines where I covered up a couple scratches . Didn’t look good
I bought a pen already mixed to my car's code and tried to apply it. Even though it is a fine pen, it leaves like a bubble of paint. I came here hoping to see a tip on how you address that and I thought wet sanding afterwards might be the answer. Just a shame there is no demonstration of that, as leaving it before doing that is a half arsed job in my opinion.
This comment is already 6 months old, so im assuming you have already fixed it by now, but as a tip for anyone who might be reading this: Try to first push the pen on something else like a plastic lit. Usually it'll leave a bubble of paint and you can dip the tip of the pen in that and lightly use the dipped pen on your scratch. Its easier to control the amount of paint this way and usually leaves better results.
I wish I'd known this earlier, especially the part about the metal tip pen! Question: How do I "wet sand" the bigger touch-up areas without damaging the good part of the paint?
I have a TLX. Had your video playing the entire time as I had the paint correction pen in my hand. Now when I get it detailed again - will the paint come off?
In that last detail, you said we can "wetsand it and polish it". But wont the wetsand harm the paint? I have a car with the same problem, I applied that paint (with the small brush) and it looks like it has a small "bump" in the paint. How can i correct that?
Unless you have a very soft or thin clear coat, wet sanding with a 1500 grit or higher really just scuffs the clear coat a little, but you can buff that all out with a cutting compound like Meguiars, then finish with a polishing compound. You can find all sorts of detailing places that rent out high quality dual action buffers and will even show you how to use them, much cheaper than an autobody shop will quite you anyway, definitely worth a shot, just takes a couple hours and patience to get most scratches out. I generally go over both my wife and I's cars with touch up paint every 6 months or so and after letting it cure for 24-48 hours, it gets smoothed down when I buff and polish the cars. Good as new! Well... for a daily driver anyway, not trying to take it to a car show.
Hi, great video, I only have one question, what do I have to do after applying the product? just wait for it to dry? I wait for your response and thank you.
Once you have the paint to your liking, I'd recommend either a coat or two of clear coat or just a good spray sealant to put some added protection over the touch up paint.
