- We have a very interesting duo-test this time. We put the famous Bluesound NODE next to the brand new Node X! What are the differences between the two? Well... just take a listen!

I own the Node X... I think it's not so important what for a model. Really important is an good External powersuply to drive them. Sbooster and higher... It's a huge Improvement for both!
Node X has a build in power supply. There is a mod that makes an external psu possible though.
I felt these 2 to be very close - if blind listening I would struggle to discern them (probably not helped by Y-T audio!).
Maybe N130 has a bit more body and fuller mid range; Node X a bit more space and more 'audiophile' sound? Small differences.
I am an owner of a Node X with updated PSU; this time listening through M1 Macbook Air > USB > Micromega MyAmp > Neat Iota

The winner is the second (black) NODE 130. Clean bass and better voices.
That being said, I DO NOT LIKE the sound of the third and well-known track, with neither of them!
Node X is much worse.
Bedankt voor de test Jaap! Zelf gebruik ik de N130 ook, persoonlijk blijf ik deze het mooiste klinken, de node X is iets scherper met klank. Node N130 heeft net iets meer diepgang.
Ik vind het precies andersom eerlijk gezegd... Hahaha.
A DAC converts numbers into sound. Having a separate DAC with a good power supply is essential, but when I hear people say that one has a sonic sig over another...well, that's nonsense. I have the Node i and the Node 3rd gen. I use the internal DAC on both and don't hear a difference.

Buiten het iets scherper/meer open gedefineerde middengebied, klinkt de laagweergave v.d. X ook net wat 'strakker' heb ik het idee.

The N130 for the win 🏆 as the X rolls off too soon and with narrower soundstage .

Didnt test that. But i guess they will perform practically the same. The dacs differ. So if you exclude the dac, the difference in sound will be gone.
Nice comparison/ So.. what is the meaning of the indistinguishable listening experience? There is no need to upgrade to X. However, physically X is should be good, and the overall audio power has improved, especially the midrange.
Too bad they didnt improve the streaming part & power supply. Sound wise the only change is a newer but still tiny Sabre DAC module.
Would be very interesting to see you test Fidelity Audio's "low jitter clock upgrade" for the Node 😁
power supply way more important than clock and fidelity audio is rip off can be beaten for way less

3rd node x cleaner more dinamic

Het is me niet duidelijk hoe ik op deze manier verschillen zou moeten horen. Speel het af op een Note2i met een lineaire Psu en NAD versterker en B&W 704 boxen. Hoor graag.
Je kan het beste een hoofdtelefoon gebruiken. Direct in de hoofdtelefoon aansluiting van een PC, tablet of telefoon is prima en de hoofdtelefoon hoeft niet iets bijzonders te zijn, maar iets wat beter is dan de standaard oordoppen van een telefoon is aan te raden. Je hoort dan de verschillen beter, omdat de akoestiek van je eigen woonkamer of luister ruimte niet meespeelt.

Highs are few decibels higher. I hear no more difference. Could be a matter of different electrolytic caps supplier

Via UA-cam through an iPad I am actually not able to make out a difference. Might be different in person …

Compared what you are comparing with the original track on YT and the difference was much bigger than what you compared in your recording, in favor of the original track !

@@jmtennapel Ok it's not well formulated 🤭 Well I've listened the compared units and yes, there are some nuances. Then I checked with the original file on the same platform: UA-cam and frankly the latter sounded much better.
Still not sure. Are you saying the direct stream from Qobuz is better? Well... I sure hope so... :-)

Would be interesting to compare the regular Node with the Wiim Pro Plus.
I’m not 100% but I think the node n130 would definitely win. With the wiim you can do an immediate upgrade with by using ifi i power 2 power supply though
All talk of alternative streamers and dac is forgetting the primary purpose of Bluesound to be used all around the home. Compare to the Sonos rubbish and it is a more real life comparison 🤔
Mnie bardziej odpowiada bluesound node x. I taki chce kupić. Gra jakos ostrzej tak jak lubie. Na sluchawkach słychać roznicę.
