  • Hard to believe that Howard Cosell isn't in the Hall of Fame yet
Think about it... shouldn't he have also received the same award Frank Gifford, Don Meredith and Dan Dierdorf have for broadcasting from the ABC Monday Night Football booth?

To this very day Howard, Dandy Don, and Frank Gifford are THE best team that ever graced Monday Night Football They were the package no one after them offered the same kind of entertainment on the prime time broadcast. Which lends the viewer who begs the question "is it Monday yet?"

My favorite banner on MNF was the first weekend when Oakland was at Buffalo. This was also the day after Evel Knievel made his ill fated jump over the Snake River canyon. The banner said "EVELS NEXT JUMP...HOWARDS MOUTH". But the one thing that takes the cake on all of this is when a bar in Denver held a brick throwing contest at a TV with Cosells face on it. All because the Broncos were not on MNF. And Cosell got the blame for it. The Broncos were not even on the Halftime Highlights. And who got the blame? You guessed it!!!

Howard's already in a Hall of Fame: the Television Academy's, right alongside greats like Walter Cronkite, Dick Clark, Lucille Ball, Edward R. Murrow, Mark Goodson, Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, Oprah Winfrey, Regis Philbin, Lorne Michaels, Phil Donahue, Johnny Carson, Bob Barker, Roone Arledge (Howard's boss), Fred Rogers, Ted Turner, and others who helped shape the television business.

Costello was the best. His energy, enthusiasm and knowledge were unsurpassed. Berman and Madden also giants in broadcasting.

Kevin J. Stoll I didn't think that it would last. I love it, but it makes me feel old now. LOL.

Until some of the old owners die and more time passes, Howard will not be nominated into the Hall of Fame. Those of us in our 40s and 50s remember Howard's broadcasting excellence, but many of his colleagues and the owners who were around during his career absolutely hated the man. He should be in the HOF, but it will be about another 10 years.

I remember that at one time Cosell was so despised that many viewers of Monday Night Football would turn off the audio on the TV and watch the game with the play by play provided by the radio broadcast---personally I thought Mr. Cosell was incredibly knowledgeable and I truly miss his broadcasts (especially some of the clowns who are on the air now)

Best live commentator (and highlight commentator) EVER. This includes football, baseball (1977 World Series) and boxing (DOWN, goes FRAZ-ieR, DOWN, goes FRAZ-ierR!).

Yes... he is directly responsible for the love affair between Americans and televised football.
