A coat of Tamiya clear green on the center windscreen would really pull things together. The F-14’s HUD data projects directly on to a clear green acrylic panel on the inner surface of the center windscreen.
When I worked on these aircraft in the early 80's, they were several years old, but the landing gear and wheel wells were pristine white. We washed every exposed surface regularly as a corrosion control measure. We are talking aluminum alloys in a humid, salt air environment! If any officer had seen actual landing gear in your "weathered condition" there would have been a line of people waiting for their turn to be epically chewed out and had performance eval's downgraded if not transferred out. I was already uncomfortable with the excessive level of panel edge weathering, but the landing gear put me over the top.
What a Beautiful F14! my favorite aircraft of all time and the best the Navy ever had. I can not wait to see this thing fly. maybe there could be a way later on for the tail cones to flare up when it goes into afterburner and then to regular fly mode when afterburner is off. didn't notice if there was a landing light on the nose gear. over all it is a beautiful work on this aircraft. good job well done!!
I'm mainly into RC cars so far, but i'd love to get into aviation. One thing people love to do with cars is speed runs. Do aviation folks get into speed runs? I'd guess a model of this size, with powerful turbines, and enough structural rigidity could reach some serious speeds. Particularly with a functioning swing wing.
The Aviation side is a hoot! So much to learn! Yes guys definitely get into speed runs! The large scale jets won't be very fast. The sports jets that are small, sleek and over powered can be mind blowing fast. 300+ MPH is realistic!
Gotta love that very distinct Xicoy howl. They're definitely the best engines out there by far in all aspects, especially fuel efficiency and sound. Having owned a 45, 90, and 195 they've all been great. Expensive, but absolutely worth it.
18:55 Your neighbors must be like, "WTF!?" lol! My Father was a structural design engineer at Grumman for 44 years. He worked on the Tomcats. He'd be pretty impressed. I guess my only gripe is the panel lines are a bit too weathered for my taste. Other than that, a true masterpiece for sure. Looking forward to a flight video.
The battery holder has ridges all around the holder so it's not going to go anywhere. I suspect we will also add a small piece of velcro on the holder but was avoiding adding anything un necessary for the weight limit.
Ya not gonna no ya self once that puppy leaves the Hanger. Good to see Luna supervising the Cats journey from the table to the floor 😮😂. She was very attentive making sure was getting done right.😅 Well I was way out re weight I think I said 86lbs. Great job Jon looks superb.😅 The hours in programming alone is mind boggling. Keep at it now. 😅😅😂😂😂
I think lots of guys are adding additional fuel tank in the location in front of the 2 mains. With this setup flight time will be very short. Some fellows in dubai are ordering the "Normal" kit version which will have ply formers everywhere instead of the foam.
Neat to see it run again, even though it was the running of the last AD episode, two weeks ago. Beautiful plane. Wish I could make it to Montana to see the maiden. Just not fitting into my schedule. Have to settle for the after the fact video. Aw well, such is life. Fred Weaver from Oregon. See you tonight on AD.
Names you painted on the left side of the model are parallel with the bottom line of rivets.. names on the right are cocked to be parallel with the top line of rivets. I can't unsee it! 😅
excelente maquina, pero creo es hora de dar un salto y que haga algo mas que volar, tal vez lanzar misiles, bombas, aterrizar con cable o una una eyección de ambos pilotos quizas..... estaría bueno
😁😄😃😀Love this video of this beautiful work of art. Every time I see a F14 the first thing I think of is Top Gun and the Sega arcade classic After Burner.
Good lord!!! I looked up the price of this thing with all the features added and its well over 15,000 USD! MY GODS! I mean, my hobbies are expensive but DAYUM. Building a 4,000 USD guitar seems to have infinite more resale value than this absolute epitome of Aviator Nerd Toys lol I love this thing!!! But for 15k, ugh... man i got lots of work to do to afford it and even then, id be too afraid to fly it
@@thelightersideofrc I tacked on the components and services and it was 15.3 or something. Including the weather, paint job, MLG and NLG door rigging, wing sweep machinisms, canopy mechanisms, ect. The aircraft by itself is 6.5k. But when I added all the bells and whistle and loaded it into the cart, it's 15+k USD. That's still pretty insane.
Impressive model! But I’m sorry to say that I find the surface weathering way of. Just my 2 cents, based on 30 years of scale modelling. But I wish I could buy and fly that…..😊
Why don't you start the engine individual instead all the same time Yes sound like a real jet and you only start one engine at a times that are both at the same time
Because when at the field flying it's about getting the plane running and flying. If you were competing in a scale competition that may be a cool thing to do to earn a few extra points!
i gotta ask, maybe you'll reply, but like, if you're building something this big and powerful, why just put a little more into it and build something big enough for you or a human to fly in? I'm honestly wondering 🤔🤷♂️
Flying in a Cessna compared to flying a model like this is a totally different experience. Often people think that flying an airplane will be super exciting, they try it and find out it can be very boring.
I would not give a dime to the corrupt Zelinsky regime. Putin tried peaceful means to stop the shelling of ethnic Russians in the Donbas Region. Also, moving NATO into Ukraine would be like China moving massive weaponry and troops into Mexico. Do you think the U.S. would stand by and allow China to make Mexico into a military staging area and jump off point? Think about it.
Appreciate the detail and expertise here, but still just a toy, though very expensive. I'd.rather fly a crappy cesna for real. Way more fun, intense, and you're in the cockpit. Feel the need for no speed, just reality. Respect what you have achieved here, job well done, just not for mez but serious Respect.
Yes it is a "toy" for a reason. Most of us don't actually care about real planes there really not fun after a while, been there done that type of thing.
My neighbor across the street has a Cessna, never seen it move my whole life. Neighbor to the right had a helicopter I've seen him fly twice YEARS ago.
Ugh. Those panel lines look like they were airbrushed by somebody having a bad first day with one. They are WAYYYY too dark and standout like a sore thumb. They literally destroy the look of an otherwise great model.
Didn't see any "rich kids" in the entire video. I must have just missed it... Now go be jealous somewhere else. You won't get any sympathy around here with this group of RC heads. 👍😉 ✈️

YES!
NOW THATS A build !

It's ok. Good thing it's not your plane!😉
AMAZINGLY AWESOME build another Beautiful build
Thank you 🤗
Gorgeous 💝 Expert job, well done!
Thank you!
Can’t wait to see that beauty fly
Soon!
I'm too poor to watch this video😅
Same buddy. Same haha
😂😂
As are most of us.
Nothing wrong with watching other people blow stupid money I think it's definitely pretty freaking awesome
I think it takes 3 years of my salary to afford this stuff..😅😅😅
They did such an amazing job on painting that.
Agreed! Looks great!
fantastic
Thank you! Cheers!
So sad to see the end. Beautiful work as always!
Thank you!
Such an awesome aircraft
Thanks!
Was at the Billings Flying Mustangs jet meet in June. This plane was there and it was huge & amazing!! Unfortunately, I did not get to see it fly.
If you come to montana jets next week you will see it. The one you saw at billings was the smaller version of this one. This one is a GIANT!
What a beautiful job!
Thank you.
Very nice jet F-14 Tomcat love jets. Looking nice.
Thank you!

HAHA. Thats one of the benefits of living in the middle of no where! Thanks for watching!
Normal people aren't worried about what their neighbors do.
Wow that is just so awesome 🤙🤙🤙🤙
😎🙌
I really enjoyed watching this series of videos. It was mind boggling, but enjoyable.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Wow! Top-notch job, mate! Side note: there are smaller planes you can actually fly in! This is a Behemoth of a model! Cheers from Patagonia!
Thank you. 😊
I have never heard anyone else pronounce "decal" like you do. Have to admit I may have giggled a little bit.
Thats what happens when your Canadian!
I have once before, on an old TV show called 'The Red Green Show'.
I believe the episode title was "Cheep Jeep" season 14? Winston the septic guy says "decals" exactly like that.
Do you add anything under your batterirs to stop them sliding through the velcro?
The battery holder has ridges all around the holder so it's not going to go anywhere. I suspect we will also add a small piece of velcro on the holder but was avoiding adding anything un necessary for the weight limit.

1 Week and we will have so much ROOM in the SHOP! 😂
Most beautiful air fighter ever made, in my opinion! This model is amazing!
😎
So with all the options and cockpit stuff its documented to be over 100lbs so how is this one meeting the LMT2 requirement?

Crazy light construction! Maiden Coming Soon!
Wish you would have put the rankings back on when you added y'alls call signs back on. That's a beautiful work of art Master Builder✌️

You're welcome
Maverick would be proud to buzz the tower in that baby 🙂

Total weight ? Wet.
In the Video if you watch.
Is it Christmas this morning? 😂
Christmas in June!😎🤩
That's the truth😂😂

Awesome I built a foamboard f14 and saw this and was like man
Thanks

Very cool the squadron is the VF 41 black aces the Tomcat squadron on🫡🇺🇸 my brother's aircraft carrier the Theodore Roosevelt CVN71
Thank you!
Awesome build! I can't wait to see you fly it. Exciting! You got another subscriber! Thank you for sharing. 😁👍
Thanks for watching!
Oh that was incredible. You do realize at full throttle you just sandblaster the left quarter panel of the red car. OOPS!😯
🤣
That non-symmetrical display setup on the controller is triggering my Flight Engineer OCD lol. Awesome model!
HAHA. I get it! Thanks for watching!
Look amazing BUT as all Skymasters F14s the rear landing gears are too tall, they should be more compressed
The gear is the best in the industry. AIR OIL Struts so fully adjustable with Pressure and oil weight.
Nice series Jon. Question for you. Where did you get those particular air line restrictors? Thanks
Hey Steven. I think those ones were SMC ones from Dreamworks. I now have the festo version on hand. Similar item of course
@@thelightersideofrc Thanks Jon, hopefully soon will be ordering them from you. Also, some more Revoc wing bags.
Very nice plane and nice build.. May I know the type and brand of the air restrictor that you use for the canopy ?
Thank you very much. You can get them from Festo or SMC.
Have you scheduled what day at Jets over Montana the maiden is occuring?
Tentatively Thursday the 20th. Obviously there are factors out of everyone’s control but that’s the plan.
You going to test fly or the owner at Jets Over Montana. Wish it was closer but I have Joe Null here very close.
Dear all I cant find mayden? Is that already done?
The maiden flight is complete! Video coming out on Wednesday.
Good to know. Thnx
Which stickends do you have on your DS24?
Those are Sticks from Radiomaster. VERY Grippy!
Nice plane, but a little overboard with the panel line weathering detail. Great video.
Thanks for watching!
excelente maquina, pero creo es hora de dar un salto y que haga algo mas que volar, tal vez lanzar misiles, bombas, aterrizar con cable o una una eyección de ambos pilotos quizas..... estaría bueno

Hey, did you ever notice that they swapped the left cockpit panels at the factory and put the throttles in the back cockpit?
Can you imagine the shear terror you'd feel during the maiden flight? I'd have to eat a handful or Xanax washed down with a pint of vodka.
🤣
Is there a thing like too beautiful to fly?
Sort of! This is a Sunday afternoon flier!

beautiful airplane that almost sorry that its finished looking forward to the maiden flight....what does a plane like that cost RTF if i may ask

It's so awesome he let's you put your name as the Co Pilot and should . 👏👏
Thank you! Yea it's a nice signature treat!
I would have done it in Top Gun colors with the nose number of 114 for Maverick and Goose
This scheme has very special meaning for the owner.
How can he operate the rudder pedals with no feet? 🤔
😂😂
The slightly aft centre of gravity is telling you to stick a go pro in the cockpit…

Totally!

Very cool!

Now knowing how expensive these can be, i gotta ask, how often do ppl crash these? There cant be insurance, right?
Just wondering, thank you!
No insurance. Doesn’t happen much.
1/4 scale?
1/6th scale. The F14 is HUGE for the full size.
It's when watching things like this, I wish I was rich... Fantastic job on a fantastic RC of a legend...👌👏
Thanks!
I'd need detailed flights logs and maintenance records or the resale value would plummet, if I was brave enough to fly it.
🤣
why nobody talks about where this "Skymaster" planes are bought???
weird...
A few places to purchase from by we deal with jetnorthjets.com
3s?
Are you asking about all packs being 11.1V? If so, the electronics regulate to 8.4 v. So with a 3s battery voltage is constant 8.4.
Haven't seen the landing gear yet, but agree that the weathering is a bit over the top
👍
lovly build but why are both helmets red? you never see to pilots with same color and design
Because that's what the owner wanted. Thanks for watching!
