    To do a complete flush you should pull the cooler line while running and drain 1-2 quarts at a time. Re fill and do this a few times. This way you have all the fluid changed versus half mixed with the old stuff. Expensive but better I believe. Also changing that external filter is important. This is the first line of defense for the transmission. The internal filter is a rebuild item. Great trick with the paper plate.

    Great tip and some good commentary on supporting local business. Great job.

      If the local businesses aren't double online prices... How can a dealer in AZ charge half the price than our local dealer assuming the online dealer is still making a profit and paying the same wholesale price as my local dealer? Once upon a time the local dealer handed me their invoice rather than my receipt. They had a 90% markup.

    Thanks for a good video! I'd like to shop locally but the local guys are crazy expensive. I checked online with an dealer source and the prices for ATF and AWD were each half the local guys even with shipping. There is a $30 difference in price!

    This is one of the best tricks I have ever seen!!! Actually used the trick to do my 2nd and 3rd "flush" (of 4 qt x 3 times) on a windy day :-) And the first one, I removed the panel to change transfer case fluid.
    @Emmanuel the washer part # is 90471-PX4-000 and I paid like $1.50 or something. Used the old one for first 2 times and a new one for the last / 3rd.

      Ho Kim - thanks I really appreciate the feedback. I am glad this helped you out. As a tip I only remove the one screw on the cover and flex it a bit to get to the transfer case with a wobble extension. But that only works if you have the proper extension.
      Happy DIYing

    Hi DIY Dave. How much did you buy your Acura atf type 3.1 oil?

    • @DIYDAVE
      @DIYDAVE  5 років тому +1

      I have the 6 speed version. I don’t know what 3.1 costs but check with your dealers and then cross check with an online source and see what makes sense for you.

    Hi Dave, awesome video. Do you know how to check ATF oil level check. I checked couple of videos and they said check when engine is running. I checked local Acura and they said when engine is off. I see level change when engine is running and when it is off. BTW, I also have MDX 2015. Thanks

      I always check the level when the engine is hot but not running.

    Is it okay to just have the front wheels up on ramps or do you have to level the whole vehicle in the air to get a proper drain?

    • @Hoster987
      @Hoster987 3 роки тому

      I am not a pro just a DIYer but I don't see an issue if you measure and fill exactly what came out....when I did mine, I put both front wheels on ramps and technically, the car is not level...so... :-)

    • @DIYDAVE
      @DIYDAVE  4 роки тому

      This is only for up to 2015. 2016 and Newer has a different transmission and requirements. I can’t speak to what those are. You can call your local dealer to find out but from what I understand the process requires a sequence of events.

    to find it?

    • @DIYDAVE
      @DIYDAVE  5 років тому

      Emmanuel Aviles-Cruz the washer is 18mm. I get them from Acura when I buy the transmission fluid. They beat the online prices and give me several washers included.

    is this mdx 2015 transmission has the transmission oi filter?

    • @DIYDAVE
      @DIYDAVE  6 років тому

      Hoiman Yip - I believe there is an internal fluid filter. It’s not easily serviceable nor am I aware of any service interval where this is changed even by Acura.

    • @RoughRidersTV
      @RoughRidersTV 6 років тому

      On mine, the filter is external and is located under the battery tray.

    • @DIYDAVE
      @DIYDAVE  6 років тому

      Rough Riders - huh - in looking at the parts catalog it appears to be external for the 2015. Have you changed it?

    the label on the ATF-DW1 fluid bottle from Acura says not for use with AWD vehicles. I have the 2015 SH-AWD ADV ENT trim, can i still use the ATF-DW1?

    • @DIYDAVE
      @DIYDAVE  5 років тому

      Christopher Wu always check with your manual or give your dealer a call for the right fluid for you vehicle model & trim.
      The real label says “not for use in AWD differential or CVT vehicles” that’s saying don’t use it in the AWD differential. I don’t know what a CVT vehicle is.
      I have a 2015 AWD tech/ent and this is what I use.

    • @joeaverager
      @joeaverager 4 роки тому

      @@DIYDAVE A CVT is the newer style automatic with the chain drive. Honda is using it in their smaller vehicles. CVT is not the same as the traditional automatic transmission with clutches and gears.

    Is the AWD procedure different? I have a 2016 MDX and it appears the procedure is more involved.

    • @DIYDAVE
      @DIYDAVE  6 років тому

      The 2016 to current is a different procedure which is more involved and requires you to remove the drive side front wheel. I saw a video on UA-cam covering it but I have never worked on one so review carefully. ua-cam.com/video/cCoCaUWKFfo/v-deo.html

    • @timetryp422
      @timetryp422 6 років тому +1

      It appears too difficult for a DIY procedure. The vehicle has to be put in a maintenance mode, the transmission brought up to a certain temperature and the transmission cycled thru some of the gears, but not all. The fluid is then checked by watching for it to flow out of a hole on the side of the transmission. Too many steps - the chance for an error seems high without the proper equipment and know-how.

      @daveaz943 6 років тому

      Timetryp I think we just need a person with the knowledge to post a video or a board post on how to do it. You do need to get an accurate temp reading (which I am told requires special software as a Live scanner does not report it for this vehicle - can anyone confirm this?) but the rest seems straight forward. There’s a video or board post on how to get it into maintenance mode which anyone can do. I am looking forward to seeing someone tackle this.

    You parked your car not safe. I have 2014 mdx but not change the Transmission fluid yet. It has only 18,000 miles. You have to change when it’s over 30,000 miles.

      Most luxury car buyers are too “busy” to be bothered to do things themselves. Also there’s status in having others work for you. Dealerships are aware of this and charge accordingly.
