- Retro gaming can be expensive at the best of times, but this month I bought a game that cost more than a PS5 and Xbox Series X combined. It’s time for another Collectors Edition. Plenty of Sega Mega Drive games made their way into the collection. Plus, we add more Mega CD, cardboard boxed games, variants, and probably the most expensive PAL Sega Mega Drive game.

Predator 2 is a belter of a game! I remember picking this up second-hand from a friend at school 25 years (yikes, a quarter of a century!!) ago. I was buying QuackShot, and he decided to throw in Predator 2 because he thought I’d like it. I really wasn’t expecting much (“meh, it’s a movie license - it’s bound to be rubbish”), but I absolutely loved it.
I see that you’re still looking for True Lies… if you like Predator 2, you’ll probably have a great time with True Lies as well. It’s a *lot* harder than Predator 2, but persevere and you’ll have a real blast with it - in my opinion, it’s a criminally under-rated Mega Drive game.
I was so surprised. Like you I thought it's going to be a rubbish film license. It's great that I'm still discovering great games.
Fatal Fury 2 is a great edition to your collection. I recently sold my copy to fund my partners maternity leave. I don't remember the edge flaw in the manual but I sold it five months ago so my memory is vague on that aspect. Most manuals in Australia were landscape rather then portrait. Most also have a foldout design too. Two other publishers sold Genesis games in Australia, Trade West and Acclaim. The Trade West Genesis releases had a "Approved Sega Import" sticker. Acclaim games had a sticker on the inside of the box under the manual that said 'distributed by Village Roadshow.' Love seeing you collection grow.

Lol. This is funny because I literally just picked up Fatal fury 2 for the Genesis yesterday. Not quite as expensive but $70 is still up there for an old game. Totally worth it though.

It's crazy how in one country a game will be under 100 and in another over 1000. Its the same with Crusader of Centy. It's 90 here in the UK but can go for over 1000 North America.
Me at the beginning: "No way I'm spending 30min watching a video about a single expensive game, despite my curiosity!"
Me at the end: "That was actually a very entertaining episode!"
BTW, that must _really_ be a rare game. I've never seen any ROMs for it, didn't even know a PAL version existed before this video! Just made some research here and found out that there was an unreleased European version of it too. The more you know!
Yup, I think there are one or two copies of the EU version out there.
Actually to clarify on your showcase of the PAL Fatal Fury 2. Japanese MD games did use standard screws to seal their games, it’s only that their information label on the back were wide enough to cover the holes where the screws are located, their info label wasn’t imprinted to the cart itself, it was an adhesive label. Therefore “peeling off” the information label on the back voids the Japanese warranty a cart would carry.

25 for the 32X, its the smallest collection. But back in the day I had 18 games. and for Mega CD I have 80 remaining.
Congrats on the great pickups! Nice to see some Mega CD games too. Eye of the Beholder is good to play with the Mega Mouse. It has music by Yuzo Koshiro!
Yup I've been using the mouse for my current play through. It's amazing. So many other games should have supported the mouse.
@@RetroGamerBoy agreed! I just picked up the Mega Mouse a couple of months ago and it's great, but the software support is a bit lacking.
Great collectors video Mike and whoa fatal fury 2 😀😀👍👍👏👏👏 along with lakers those are the only 2 games I’ve never seen a physical copy of. As for predator 2 I’ve always been a big fan of this game and totally agree about the gameplay it’s a hidden gem. As for Larussa baseball I need to check my copy for what it came with but even if the stats cards are missing I’m not going to complain as I got it at a London game market a few years ago for £3 😀😀. Again amazing stuff and congrats on fatal fury 2 but I’ll just enjoy it on my megadrive mini 2 as I’ll never justify paying a couple of grand for a physical copy. £3 is a great price. I think I paid £25 and then another £30 to ship it from Australia to the UK.
I played Desert Demolition a lot when I was a kid it requires some getting used to and figuring out the logic of the game. When you memorize the layout of the levels and figure out what to do it's an amazing game and quite easy as well. Also graphics and sound are superb for a megadrive game. Kinda reminds me of Sylvester & Tweety which is also non typical platformer with puzzles.
Yes, sometimes it can be expensive to be a collector🤭 One day please make a video about your guilty pleasures on the Mega Drive😊
The visuals are amazing and really are representative of the cartoon. I'll give the game some more time later this month.

Great collectors episode…predator 2 looks like a quality game, might have to fire up my modded mega drive mini to give it a go.
How many games needed for the full mega drive collection?
I've got 41 including the Brazil games. In Total I don't know. I've never sat down and worked it out. There are some games I would include that others would not. It hovers around the 540ish mark. Once I have what I consider a full collection, excluding variants, I'll put out a full list.
Wow, that game wall is so impressive! Also, you can't go wrong with Mega Drive or Genesis games.

I'm a sucker for the oddball shaped carts! Lady Laci loved the show SeaQuest and naturally had to have the game upon learning of it.
I still remembering thinking Cleopatra's Curse looked so fun years ago at Midwest Gaming Classic and I knew I HAD to have a physical cart of it. Physical Forever!

That’s an awesome collection of games you’ve got under condition for the majority of them are absolutely immaculate. I’m very much the same when it comes to the condition of mega drive games. When I buy them they have to be near mint. I mean I don’t mind your wrinkle hair and their and instruction manual, but we have a lot of the games I’ve bought I’ve had to replace the cases because the case or rather the seafood wrapping finger around the case has been hanging off and in a few of the games I’ve bought and I’ve had to buy replacement mega drive clamshell cases and I love your enthusiasm and attention to detail. I really hope you get to complete your pal mega drive games collection. I’m sure someone is already mentioned it in the comments about eye of the beholder in regards to soundtrack being done by the legendary Yukon Kushiro.
I'm slowly going through and replacing any clam shells that are not up to scratch. I've also had to buy donor sleeves.
Have you managed to source Rainbow Islands for the MD yet? That was very rare and expensive game back in the 90’s 😅
I don't but I'm only collecting the PAL collection at the moment. I am starting to get some Genesis titles as well.
@@RetroGamerBoy ah ok, I either had a copy on the selves back then or saw one in person. Was a long time ago! Forgot it was JP cart but seem to recall an English box at some point..
Predator 2 is a fantastic game, but on medium difficulty the last level is unfairly hard. I picked up the cart only version of Seaquest for just under a tenner last year, and the game was on at best, but I'm glad to have it. You've some great stuff there.
seaQuest is super had to get complete.

Man, huge hitter that Fatal Fury2...pal version, im not going to be going for that myself at the rate it goes for - i loved the first game back in the 90's...that was until i got MK & Sf2 sce. 😉
I still think the rarest megadrive game will be the blue box WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SOCCER 2...its the stuff of legend

I'm super wary of WCS. I've had a few offered to me, but there is almost no way to know if it's fake. The cart and manual are easy to get hold of and I would not want to pay a grand for an A4 piece of paper, printed in 2023.

Predator 2 is such an underrated game on the MegaDrive it plays awesome on the Sega Master system too.

Yup, I just finished Predator. That end boss is a real killer. It's a great game.
Biggest MD Japan box is "Wizard Of The Immortal" I believe. Which looks on par with LaRussa Baseball size wise.

Most Megadrive manuals issued by OziSoft were in blue print but not bound and stapled but rather more like a folded poster....tbh, they are probably the crappiest version of a Megadrive/Genesis manual (very cheap).....I believe they just printed the English part of the Euro manual as Australia didn't need all the different languages to cut costs....changes were also made to the back art cover on some of the games by removing the non-English languages present in Euro covers....for Megadrive in Australia, we got Ozisoft issued cartridges, European issued cartridges (with the full colour manual in multiple languages) and Genesis cartridges....
That's really interesting. You could see the cost cutting in all territories. NA had a raw deal with over 100 games coming in cardboard boxes.

It's amazing they went to all the expense of manufacturing a unique extra wide case for one baseball game that only came out on PAL in Austalasia. I cant see how that was profitable! Did they sell like 10 copies?
I think it came out in North America as well.
I have 2 of the "still to get" games but sadly they are in average condition. One is Aero the acrobat 2 and Asterix power of the gods (but silver box - Australia). Good to see you got Fatal fury 2, recently there was someone selling it dirt cheap and luckily some local collectors directed them to the true value before someone nabbed it. May have been the same copy.
Maybe, this was a private purchase from a collector in Australia.
Holy crap, this last Christmas I paid almost 30 000 yen for Sonic & Knuckles (around 200 USD, 185 EUR or 160 GBP) and I already though it was painfully expensive, but it was a childhood dream 😅
Now, 2000 AUD for Fatal Fury 2... you know that the original Neo Geo version is cheaper, right? 😂

Neo Geo where ever it is has a hefty price tag. And the ports to the Mega Drive were some of the best.
@amerBoy actually the Fatal Fury games are quite affordable. I just checked my local second hand shop, and they have Fatal Fury 1, 2 and Special for 5000 yen each! (around 27 GBP).
I guess the European editions would be more expensive, but NeoGeo games are region free and they always include all languages!
Unfortunately, the console itself is still very expensive...
That's almost free as far as Neo Geo is concerned.
I know, I am tempted to buy one just to say that I own a real NeoGeo cart 🤣
Most other NeoGeo games go for at least 10x that, and some reach one million yen!
It's always interesting to see the disparity in a game's prevalence between regions. I wouldn't exactly call it 'cheap' here, but yea it's not even close to that

Yup. It's an insane price. It's was more of a trade for me though as I sold some of my PS2 collection to pay for it. So PS2 games for 1 Mega Drive game.
Recently bought Predator 2 too. Really like it. Completed it. Bought Warpspeed and Phantasy Star II in Zürich on holiday yesterday.
I was really surprised by it. Film licenses tend to be rubbish.

My copy of cosmic and dizzy has a cosmic poster so I would guess it was luck of the draw on which poster you got

@@RetroGamerBoy gameplay is unbalanced, characters move quicker compared to the arcade and SNES version, some characters even have infinites.
easiest infinite is Cheng's light kick, just get close to your opponent and spam the button😊

Aero 1 & 2 have been pretty elusive for me. Someone did offer me both games for £1400 🤣😂🤣🤣🤣 I did not take them up on the fantastic deal.
I also see FF2 regularly just need to know where to look I've been offered 2 complete ones in last month alone. I've not seen a single superman this year....
Really, it's the total opposite for me. Superman everywhere and no FF2. I think though that FF2 sold something like 5k copies in Australia where as Super man sold close to 80k copies in Europe. Superman was still a massive IP back in the 90s alongside Batman. It was like release a marvel game today.

I thought I saw EA in games in Australia with megadrive branding but don't remember for sure. EA master system games would say in small text for play on master system and genesis or megadrive with power base adaptor.

60 pounds (77USD) for SeaQuest??? That game is horrific. Why would you want to spend so much money on a game that you will most likely not play more than 5 minutes in your life time? I miss the time when games were only that expensive if they were good and people wanted them for exactly that reason.

That's great. I will raise my children on Sega Games I played and I didn't. I will build the world around them in 90s style to make them real ones like Us. That's why I've been creating new universe and start vizualising it with The Game on Sega. They also will have 1G mobile phones for connection only. VHS movies from 50-90s maybe some to 2000s like the matrix. But you, Mike can easily start doing it already now😃. And that will be great for your children🎉
I've been doing it for years. I also run a summer camp where I take other people's children and force them to like 90s Sega stuff.

North american and japanese boxes are smaller than boxes for pal territories. That osisoft box is our variant.
