    An excellent production on behalf of The Defence Forces and the Air Corp,it’s a great life and starting block for any young man or woman and has the potential to unlock many possibilities,I had the honour to serve for 11 years in the Defence Forces before I transferred to another Department ( the lure of better pay and conditions is hard to ignore as you get older ) but I’ll never forget my time in service.

    Is there an Irish special forces contingent? Oh, it was sort of confirmed later in the vid.

    As I am northern Irish, but do have an Irish passport, will I be heavily affected from trying to get a cadetship?

    Wish I was 17 again. You'd a better chance of winning the lotto than an apprenticeship in the drome back in the early 90s ☹️

    It may seem an odd question but, is it possible for a British citizen to join the Irish Military?

    What are the chances of there being a Helicopter Pilot vacancy once you complete your wings training.

    • @aerchornaheireann534
      @aerchornaheireann534  3 роки тому +8

      Very high! Our newly qualified pilots transition to fixed wing or rotary wing based on their own personal preference, suitability & vacancies in each wing.

      Great stuff Aidan! If you're still 100% keen at the required age, keep an eye out for our competitions which generally run every year.

  • @multzee2003

    After you have finished training and survival school are you obliged to serve 2 years abroad before you become a pilot or is that part skipped? and after you get your wings can you fly both rotary wing and fixed wing planes?

    • @aerchornaheireann534
      @aerchornaheireann534  3 роки тому +5

      Overseas service is not required to become a pilot. Upon successful completion of flying training, newly commissioned officers transition to either fixed wing or rotary wing initially, but transitions to other aircraft down the line are absolutely possible!

    Is it very selective to become a pilot of the likes of the pilatus pc9 or is there allot of opportunity and if so I will sign up when I'm old enough

    • @aerchornaheireann534
      @aerchornaheireann534  3 роки тому +2

      All cadets fly the PC-9M to high skill level for their training, and pilots can later apply for the Flight Instructors Course, which sees them transition back to the PC-9M for training to become a military flight instructor. So, plenty of opportunity to fly the PC-9M!

    Would you have to be very mechanically minded/ good with your hands? (To be a cadet)

    • @aerchornaheireann534
      @aerchornaheireann534  2 роки тому +1

      Great question! Being mechanically minded is an extremely valuable trait to have when working with aircraft. We look for a number of important qualities in all new members of our organisation. Below is a list of the main abilities & skills with respect to becoming an Air Corps cadet:
      -The ability to plan, prioritize and organise.
      -The ability to carefully analyse problems, in order to generate appropriate solutions.
      -The technical and physical ability required to pilot military aircraft in challenging situations.
      -Clear, concise and effective communication skills.
      -The ability to motivate others and work with a team.
      -Can do all of this while working in a physically demanding and high pressure environment.
      If you believe you have what it takes, then join our team!

    Do we get deployed during the 10 month military training to become a pilot?

    • @aerchornaheireann534
      @aerchornaheireann534  3 роки тому +1

      No, all training during phase 1 (military training) is conducted in Ireland. Hope this helps!
