    Thanks for the in depth install and usage video. You did a great job on the install. This also clearly demonstrates this would probably not be a good option in a one man operation, I am glad I learned this before considering this as an option as I may not always have the extra hands around.

    That's a good looking awning and a great price too. When I was building my camper shell, I didn't think about having something like that.
    My door is too close to the top for that to work for me. I could put one on the other side I guess, but that would be kinda wonky.

    Thank you for sharing this all the way through. I have a question. How do you keep it from flopping around when pulling the trailer? Seems there would be quite a bit of movement and I would think that would be hard on the camper and could cause damage. I'll have to look at your other vids to get an update on this, but it was helpful. I'd be by myself most of the time so this may be somewhat hard for me to get back wrapped up. But I can see the potential and I really want one on my converted trailer.

      Try inexpensive metal shower curtain rings. Twelve (if memory serves) for about $2 from Walmart. I've used them as an easy to grasp zipper pull assist. Would be especially useful in this situation, to just hook a finger in it and pull. Use a carabiner to connect the 2 rings to help keep the zippers from opening while on the road.

    Did you consider flipping the channel piece the other way? (The piece that holds the awning to the trailer.) Looks like that would put the screws under the awning bag and raise the awning about an inch. Do you think that would work?

    @JDScott1214 5 років тому

    Just a thought. Check the retail links below. A handle and a folding step at the front and rear corners of the trailer might help.
    * Direct link: is.gd/vhpQj7 Manual search: www.zoro.com then search Steel Folding Step
    * Direct link: is.gd/4ZpxoO Manual search: Black Vinyl Grab Handle
    I have not used either product. I just looked for under $10 pieces that fit the idea that I for the tough reach up for the zipper of for that last little push up to get it put away. This eliminates the need to bring One More Thing along on the trip. Of course a study cooler that you already have may serve better.
    Either way, congrats on the dream and the will to Do It.

    I have a question: I bought this exact awning for my Pop Up camper. I saw another video about installing specifically for a Pop Up. My question is this: in that other video they attach the top socket bracket by screwing directly through the top of the pop up camper. Is there wood or something behind that shell? It seems like it could maybe poke through the top and into the fabric of the pop up inside? Has anyone else tried this with a pop up? I guess I need to open it up and check the construction of my top. Maybe should have done that before I bout the awning : / Oh well. Any answers or info would be much appreciated.

    • @Robinson-Homestead
      @Robinson-Homestead  4 роки тому +1

      There should be wood in there measure the thickness and get the screws 1/8 inch shorter stainless is best thank you for the comment Scottyplug.

    • @scottyplug
      @scottyplug 4 роки тому

      Installed this today. Word to the wise: you absolutely want to smooth off the ends of the channel on the cross bar to ensure you don't snag or tear the awning fabric when sliding it into the channel. Factory smoothed or not, you want that edge butter soft. This will help prevent snags, rips, or tears and will greatly increase the ease with which the awning slides into the channel. Otherwise this thing went together and on the camper pretty simply. And it looks great and is super easy to deploy and pack back up. I really love all the versatility with the adjustable legs!

    I was gonna get an ARB awning for my camper conversion.. but while I was doing research, I came across a UA-cam video of a guy who made a DIY awning. It was pretty brilliant and it only cost about $60.
    Basically, you use a regular tarp or tent awning with grommets. Then use suction cup anchors to attach it to the trailer.. and a couple of tent/awning poles on the front portion. It works brilliantly. I already had a good tent awning.. so I just had to get the suction cups and poles. If you're interested in doing something similar.. here's a couple of links to the stuff I used on mine.
