Well, done, straight to the point another fellow Canadian here, I perform similar steps. I had trouble with my duck plugs. The yellow ice cover would randomly float out. It doesn’t lock in very well for me. This year, I’m trying the new Aqua group bungee blowout plug. Similar idea but this time the moving plug is captured so it can’t float out. Love that you actually showed the ultra gizzmo most people don’t even realize it has a blowout feature .
@@B_High_Man In my case, I have a mesh liner, so the pool will fill up with rain / snow water of the winter. If you have a hard cover, then you can consider refilling the pool back to below the skimmer after the jets are blown out / closed.
If the main drain is not connected directly to the drain and comes out from the skimmer like in this video you don't need to blow it? I have the Protek Shield on the Raypak heater. Do I need to remove it for winter? Also nice bracelet !
If the main drain goes to the skimmer, I just put a piece of pool noodle (about a foot long) down the pipe and plug it off. I use to blow it out but found that a foot long foam piece will help it from breaking at that point. Never had an issue and have been doing it this way for years. Never had a pipe break at a main drain under the skimmer. I do take the protek off, as thats my drain plug. Did I miss that in my video? lol
@@VIPPoolsandSpas Awesome, thank you for the direction. I have the new Raypak version that has the Protek Shield and would always remove the plug from the other side instead of the Protek and leave it throughout winter. Love using the Duck plugs, but I haven't found any that would fit my step jet. How would you blowout the step jet if the waterline is above it? Do I just block it off normally or do you recommend another way.
@@ralphyounes1677 Thats a great question. Is the step jet connected to the other 2 jets making it 3 jets inline? If so, use an expansion plug, blow it and plug it underwater. You'll get wet.
@@VIPPoolsandSpasI believe the step jet is connected to the the other two since the circulation and shut off is for all three, but am not 100% certain. I have done it the way you have recommended with the expansion plug and wanted to make sure that I am doing it the right way. Thanks again for the direction!
Hi, I am sorry for the newbie question. I have the same setup wherein the main drain is connected to the skimmer. I am confused as to why you don't need to blow air on this pipe. Isn't this pipe also has water in it? Doesn't this freeze during winter? Thanks
I think I have a video somewhere of that. I just put a piece of 2 foot foam piece down the pipe and cap it off. Frost line never goes down that far and have been doing it this way for over 30 years. Never had a skimmer to main drain line brake. If you do it this way, then you have to follow the other steps I have in my videos. And use the proper plugs and gizzmo.
@@VIPPoolsandSpas where abouts in Ontario? South of Toronto? I'm up North, north of Huntsville.... so wondering if I need to feed the sponge further down then you might? Im hitting an L joint about 2 feet down and am at a loss. Wondering if its enough but Ontario temps vary for sure, I get - 30 regularly for a couple weeks 🤣
“Complete Guide” ??? I’m almost 100% positive there are chemicals that are added to the pool water that weren’t covered in this video….or have I been closing my pool wrong all these years ?
Almost 100%. Balance your water out is the #1 thing. Putting other chemicals in all depends on what type of winter cover and what climate you live in. You watch videos to get an idea on how you should close your pool. Also. there are 4 different ways to close a skimmer and 4 different ways to close a return. Guess it wasn't 100% complete guide. But hey, it's already confusing for some.
Hi this is fantastic. You speak very well. I’m old school,am 60 now,and have had a pool for 35 years. I’ve always lowered my pool level and vacuumed out the lines but my jets are so low and I have to drain off so much water. I have a shop vac. Is it strong enough to blow out the lines? You were using a blower I’m not familiar with. I saw your Canadian flag so I subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for the subscription. The blower link is in the video description. Its a great investment and is the only thing that can really get out all the water. The duck plugs I use and don't have to lower the water below the returns can't always be used on any pool. You have to buy the plugs and see if they fit.

Best closing video detailed I have seen. Thanks! Next: Get rid of Trudeau!
Yep on BOTH.
Great video. I am going to do the same but Take water out below skimmer so it is below jets

Just confirming. Jets are air locked too just like a main drain?
No. Theres no pressure in the jets to push back on.
