@@TinaTheDrifter Don't worry, with all you guys posting videos about Lmbk, the tourists will come - and f*ck that place up. It's already happening. Good job everybody 👏
Loved the cinematography, the music, and the pacing. Especially around 4:23! You captured the essence of Kuta (at least for a tourist like me) incredibly wel.
Be it the storytelling, the narration, the choice of music, the camera angles, the pacing, the scenic views, the blend of photos from Leica M6, it all adds up to a beautifully curated video. For a self-taught documentary filmmaker, I think you have nailed it. Thank you for sharing your experiences and I hope I can see a lot more quality content from your channel.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback! It means a lot that you appreciated the storytelling, visuals, and the overall vibe of the video. beautiful video!!! I love everything about it. Im flying to lombok tomorrow this got me even more excited. Can I ask you how you created that narrator voice I really like it ? :)
Have fun there! Or should i ask how was your trip? :) I used ai to create the voiceover, but i use real voice actors or my own skills for most of my videos
Beautiful video, loved the vibe you share :) What camera do you use for videos when you travel? I've XT3 but too heavy and not enjoying the logistics :/
I'm in Lombok as I write this.....her video must have struck a chord, surfer girls everywhere on their scooters, crowded line ups, trade winds blow sideshows most places, Kuta is a mass of people building guest houses as fast as they can. Was in the Gillis trying to snorkel with 100 other people the boat guys were bringing, and for some reason, there's hundreds of Italians here. Euros with their babies on the back of the scooter, and scruffy Kool Kids hanging in the restaurants. My Thai wife looks like Tjna, and we get vibed by the locals everywhere we go, because they think she's an Indonesian with a middle aged White guy, so this video is not exactly representative of what we're experiencing. Notice the lack of good waves and crowded lineups in her video? No, it's not as crowded by any means as Bali, but other than a couple of very good surf spots, the waves don't come close to Bali's dozens of great, easily accessible breaks. I started surfing Bali in '96, and have been 15 times for several weeks each trip. If you really like I so much, don't tell tens of thousands of people about it. Surfers used to know that.
Hi James i can understand what you're talking about. First, I came at off season so i was not really troubled by the crowd. I've heard and seen that it's slowly becoming like the next capitalized island like bali. If I just stayed around Kuta all the time, then I can 100% agree what you are trying to say. But I am not like many tourists who ONLY stay at kuta. I traveled along the south coastline and most of places a few km away from Kuta is already unspoiled and pure. Lombok is huge, there are thousands of unspoiled paradises, just as same as Bali: I spent 3 months in Bali this year but only a short period around south, i enjoyed Bali without ANY tourists in many towns. btw notice that i never point out the name of the breaks? except those ones that everyone can recognize, can anyone actually recognize the other exact spot? Nah.
I don't understand in your description area what you mean by "untouched by Capitalism". Isn't virtually every business on the island privately owned? And don't all the private businesses earn a profit which supports their family? Or am I wrong and Lombok's economy is mostly centrally planned and owned by the government?
By "untouched by capitalism," I mean Lombok's local businesses operate differently from the hyper-competitive, profit-driven model typical of capitalism. While there are privately owned small businesses, many are family-run, focused on sustainability, and community-oriented rather than growth and profit maximization. These businesses support local traditions rather than being driven by global market pressures. So, while not government-controlled, Lombok’s economy often prioritizes local needs over capitalist expansion. Hope, now we're clear :)
@@Randsurfer according to what you say, the whole world is capitalised, right? Why are you here? To teach me economy? Please, don't. Capitalism, by definition, is an economic system where private individuals or companies own and operate the means of production, aiming to generate profit. Large corporations with significant market control, intense profit motives, and strategies to reduce competition often dominate this space. Small businesses typically operate on a local scale, aiming to meet the needs of their communities rather than scaling for global dominance. This local focus does not align with the capitalist drive for infinite growth and market expansion. While small businesses operate within a capitalist framework, they often deviate from the core features of capitalism, especially the emphasis on wealth accumulation, worker exploitation, and expansion. Their local focus, community-oriented goals, and limited market power set them apart from the large-scale capitalist enterprises that dominate discussions of capitalism. Therefore, while small businesses are a part of capitalism, they don’t fully embody its most controversial traits.
