- A Hazard of Hearts is a romantic film. It is based on a novel by Barbara Cartland and was released in 1987.
Starring: Helena Bonham Carter (Serena Staverley) and Marcus Gilbert (Lord Justin Vulcan)
Shall I make you fall in love with me, Serena? Ohhhh yes please. Made my heart flutter when I was 16 and now at 38, just the same. So pleased to be watching this again after all these years. Still wish my name was Serena
I love his eyes and his manners so much! 😍😍 Lord Vulcan is absolutely amazing!
Helena looks so beautiful in this, and her clothes are wow, especially the one in the mentioned scene. I like how she has those huge innocent looking eyes, but has some tough edges to her character.
I enjoyed the movie. Serena and Justin were complimentary to each other. Her horseback riding was fantastic. Justine was what every girl dreams of...simply adorable. And what beautiful eyes.
I got the chills all over when he said " Shall I make you fall in love with me serena?" and then his piercing stare!
"I should hate you but it seems we must be friends." Nice line.
I love how romantic the music is. It reminds me of the music from Gone With the Wind
Helena looks so young and beautiful.
Cel mai frumos film vazut inca din copilarie si acum din nou.
thank you very much for uploaded this movie,i always love classical romantic movies..
i loved the movie and the happy ending, when u have a bad day this movie is perfect, And I know as well books of Jane Austen, Agatha Christie or Emil Zola
They did the ladies' evening gloves during dinner correctly! (you wouldn't take the gloves off, but unbutton a 4-5" gap at the wrists. You'd then pull your hands through the unbuttoned wrist holes, inverting and tucking the hand of the glove up into the glove's sleeve, so you have bare hands to eat with.) OMG, I don't think I've seen that in another movie!
Oh my God, those eyes!!
Are you afraid of love or merely of me?... Oh Jesus, I got numb just by the way he said it
" our little heiress " lol all the vultures turned to look at her
Rosaicela Madrigal And none of them were young or good looking!
Wow! So much eyeballing when you're trying to have a good dinner.
2:47 "He murdered my father." - Nope, your father brought that on himself. True, Wrotham has all the appeal of maggot infested carcasse but Staverley died because of his own gambling addiction.
Marieda Parellio In the actual book Serena's father was killed in a duel and her mother didn't die due to giving birth to Serena, but had gotten injured in a riding accident
Well, let's just say he preyed on Staverly's weakness. He may not be directly responsible, but he certainly was a contributing factor in his demise.
love that line" Shall I make you fall in love with me"
love helena, she's beautiful
"I do like my men, to be men"
I know exactly how she feels. lol
I know exactly what she means too.
Serena is so beautiful and Justin is handsome AF😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 I'll fall in love with you anyday, and anytime Justin 😘😘😘😘💚💜💙💛❤
Making it simple I'm in love with Lord Vulcan. What a man!
Hahahaha.
Me too
10:45, the piercing gaze. At this point, I can say Justin does want Serena to love him (and after reading the novel as well) ^_^ they should redo this movie. But then again, I'm horrified if they do because producers, writers and directors do not know how to make "heart felt" movies like this anymore
I don't know about remaking this movie. I cannot think of 2 actors better (or at least as good) than these ones to play the leading roles. I think she is perfect here and I just cannot see another Lord Vulcan.
+A Melvin your right!!! :D
Thanks!
That's what's so upsetting to me. Today's films and tv shows have to involve sex and controversy and movies and tv shows from the 80's didn't ( as much)
The reason why I don't watch movies much anymore. More so, historical romances
Thank you for uploading!
Thanks for uploading! I'm enjoyal4-ing this! 😉
Holy smoke! Barbara Cartland was right! They don't make men like him anymore. I think I may be having an attack of the vapours!
+acechadwick - Not sure they ever made them that way. That's why we needed books written about them.
I want a clone of Justin Vulcan 💕
That guy seems to enjoy messing with the heroin - "shall I make you fall in love with me" :D
mabelxxxbsb I'd be a pile of drool on the floor.
heroine..lol other wise..that'd be another problem ;)
+loiba That's funny; I was thinking the same thing.
" shall i make you fall in love with me" i wish he asked me that :0)
I shudder to think of their future children's eyebrows
The book is quite good!
why were guys so handsum back then but guys today are either cute or hot?
What a line? Shall "I make you fall in love with me" or are you afraid of love?
I love that line as well but I take her to be a stronger individual and not one who would coward away and fall so easily for such a line. If I were the writer, I would have given him more of a challenge. Rather than have her scurry away into her room, I would have had her respond with "I may be young Lord Vulcan, but I'm not a child. I'm sure a man of your stature might think that I could be made to fall in love so easily but a game of chance does not make a romance. No, I'm not afraid of love (and then I would have let her retire into her room, leaving him standing there to ponder her words). The reason I say this is because of her actions when she first meets him. She boldly makes a statement of his reputation. She's alot stronger than she appears so I don't see her as the frightened girl scurrying away from him as you witness so often in the movie.
Yes, as a writer myself; It could of come across a different way.
@@lindasmilesrfree6067 Well the difference is that when she first met him, she has steeled her heart beforehand and prepare herself thoroughly for this encounter. She hadn't met him before and harboured no feelings for him. The first meeting is more or less conducted as a business meeting.
Later on, while staying at his family estate, they get to know each other better and his line comes across as romantic innuendos. For all her bravado and strong personality you shouldn't forget that she is still very young and innocent while he is a man of the world, older than her and experienced. She probably gets scared of the intensity of her feelings, her reaction being natural for a maiden on the cusps of adulthood, awaken to the first thrills of love and passion. Also she doesn't trust him at this point of time and doubts his sincerity, having the reputation of a scoundrel and womaniser.
"Shall I make you fall in love with me, Serena?" The girl runs away because she's startled and caught off guard at the moment when her own feelings for him are starting to grow, but she's conflicted because she doesn't fully trust him based on his perceived reputation. Serena is strong-willed and opinionated, she's not afraid to express herself and Justin knows this. If she completely detested the idea of considering him as a possibility she would have mentioned it, the same way she told her cousin Nick in the beginning that he couldn't make her happy when he offered to marry her. Deep down Serena knows that she could be happy with Justin, he's handsome, kind-hearted and she absolutely loves Mandrake. Serena is also honest and sincere, so she couldn't look him in the eyes and lie to him, so the best she could do is run away as to avoid the subject entirely. After Serena closes the door, Justin gives a slight smile because he has found Serena's weakness and knows that she has some feelings for him...at this moment he's thinking, I've got a shot.
Olenna Tyrell looks hot in here
Oh well, you have a point here. So attractive is the word ;-). And indeed, I am able to imagine him to be a splendid Rochester. Unfortunately Ruth Wilson did the job already - she was a brilliant Jane.
I saw this when I was 17 on cable. Love at first sight, 1987 I think
Shall I make you fall in love with me? what a romantic question.
I wonder how I would respond to such a question. Sigh...where are all the romantic men?
+Linda K. Well, I know now how I would have her respond to his "shall I make you fall on love with me and are you afraid of love". If I were the writer of this scenario, I would not have her scurry away into her room like a frightened little girl; she's too strong of a character. I would give Lord Vulcan more of a challenge. Her response to him would have been "I may be young, Lord Vulcan, but I'm not a child. I'm sure a man of your stature might think that I could be made to fall in love so easily but a game of chance does not a romance make. No, I'm not afraid of love. (then I would have her retire into her room leaving him standing there to ponder her words). Again, I say this because at their first chance encounter she boldly states that she is well aware of his reputation. Therefore, she is alot stronger than they portray her and I don't see her scurrying away from him as we see so often in the movie.
Is Lord Vulcan (hah) supposed to be a tad psychotic? He has insane eyes.
+Anastasia Beaverhausen That is what I was hoping for while watching the movie, but nope it was just an ol' love story with a happy ending.
who knows what he told before :" shall i make you fall in love with me?It's difficolt for me handerstand without subtitle the right word!
Least off all the man to whom you are betrothed.
Zita Sőregi grazie!!! thank you!
Least "of " all ...
Helena looks beautiful throughout this part except when she was thanking lord Vulcan sheeshh was that weird
maybe this will be good afterall
"Shall I make you fall in love with me Serena?" Is that a threat or a challenge?
Both I think. He is staking his claim at this point also testing the waters to see her reaction. I sincerely think that he decided that she would be his wife the first moment he saw her descending the stairs, in white with the hair let loose, a perfect picture of innocence and beauty. The first discussion set the deal for him, when she proved to be as spirited and sensible as she is beautiful. It's made obvious that she prepared herself for this meeting thoroughly and conducted it pretty much as one would a business transaction, giving him a complete report on the financial situation of the estate.
He is obviously in awe of her maturity and intelligence.
Later, when he was talking to his mother, while watching Serena from the castle window he states that "one day there will have to be an heir for Mandrake" suggesting that he has already made up his mind on this matter.
Diana Rigg's pink outfit is hideous as well as inappropriate.
Overall, this is low-rent Jane Austen.
Did Helena Bonham Carter look permanently pissed-off in ALL her films? Always seemed angry about something and rarely, smiled. Did she ever do a comedy? Why were men supposed to be attracted this sour-faced young woman? She seems to have no sense of fun in her. There must have been any number of actresses better suited to the role - although, Wikipedia says
Barbara Cartland was actively involved in the casting.
Look. It's Biggles
The acting, parts of the script; utterly laughable.
I think there are exceptions nowadays, though, don't you think? Take Benedict Cumberbatch for instance - absolutely handsome ;-).
