In Mozart singing, the most important element is the instrumental approach of the vocal sound which implies: flawless and slender emission of sound, perfect intonation, diction and phrasing, capability to cope with the dynamic requirements of the score, musical intelligence, elegance, beauty of timbre, nobility, agility and ability for dramatic expressiveness within the narrow boarders imposed by the strict Mozart style, being this Mozart style the most important requirement to fulfill.
Something that I noticed about his interpretation style is that he's not only elegant but he doesnt commit the interpretation exagrtations that other singers do, instead he focuses more on his technique and gosh it is breathtaking.
I heard once that when the opera was performed in Paris that the individual who played Don Ottavio mentioned that he wanted more arias for his character. Mozart simply sat down at the opera house and wrote this beautiful piece. I have no idea if that is true or not. Something I heard. Either way, beautiful aria sung beautifully by Maestro Araiza. Two thumbs up for both!
He used to be called the Mozart Tenor in the world. I guess everyone knows that this was sung at the premier in Prague but then the tenor at Vienna couldn't handle it. Mozart wrote Dalla Sua Pace for him. I looked into this. I transposed both down (I'm a bass). I had no trouble with Dalla but I couldn't sing the runs in this. Araiza was always criticized for aspirating. Notice he aspirates some but not others. It's an artistic choice not a limitation.
Muti is without any doubt the best Mozart interpreter nowadays, and Mr. Araiza... Wow, such a marvellous singer, perfect for the magic of Wolfgang's music...
a great musical rendition with a beautiful voice and superb technique--It is also expressive Araiza first and foremost is an artist--listen to his lieder
A very good rendition, no doubt, but lacks _legato_ in the _coloratura_ parts. All in all a really good effort but Alva's, for instance, is quite better than this.
Mexico has produced world class tenors for decades such as Francisco Araiza, Rolando Villazón and Ramón Vargas. Mr. Araiza retired and he now teaches young opera tenors in Mexico and Europe. I believe he resides in Germany or Austria.
Walter Bueno Araiza retired from singing and moved into a pedagogical role in the early 2000s, although he has appeared in concerts since then, and even recently.

@David45NV1 In Germany, Fritz Wunderlich and Francisco Araiza with their secure line of singing, perfect support of the sound and absolute breath control are considered the two latest references of a Mozart Tenor.
I think there is an inaccuracy in the description of this video. Francisco Araiza isn't one of the leading tenors. He HAS BEEN and continues to BE the leading Mozart tenor in the world. His beautiful voice, paired with this inmaculate technique and fine coloratura make him unique and amazing! Bravo Maestro Araiza!
Someone asked me who Jerry Hadley was and I responded, I was NOT talking about Araiza. I know fully he is alive and well and I'm a huge fan of his. No need to make agressive replies to me.
Pregúntenle a Javier Camarena.
This is a great performance but not alas a great recording. I heard Araiza several times live. His voice was bigger than it appears here. The microphone placement is bad. The critics always criticized him for aspirating the fioratura, You don't hear that here. I never heard it in the theater. He sounds great and sings it perfectly.
+Patrick Boyle The aspiration of the fioratura is evident in the last run . Barely noticeable, it does not affect its fluidity. I have not seen a better live performance of this aria.
+Patrick Boyle It was but a speck on a stellar performance. In addition to perfect breath control I was impressed with his character portrayal.. He stands with Neil Schicoff in acting ability
Great (Italian-American) tenor, who died too soon in 1997, great Mozart/Bel Canto specialist, he worked often with Claudio Abbado and Leonard Bernstein. Look for hinm the Met 1990 Don Giovanni, with Carol Vaness, Samuel Ramey, Ferrucio Furlanetto. People have said his technique is 10 times superior to Placido Domingo- I agree. :)
@dziady1 Beczala is a good tenor but never a Mozart tenor. Although the aria tells about vengeance, the background is much different. Don Ottavio is a nobleman and as such, not supposed to articulate as Beczala does, appearing rather vulgar. I suggest reading my comments under Beczalas postings. Furthermore I would not dare to judge a production without having seen it live.
perfection in voice technique, phrasing and tempo, Ariaza was one of the great 20th century tenors, Very musical and versatile

John McCormick still sings the runs better than anyone I've ever heard, but Araiza has the most sensuous, beautifully placed voice for Mozart's music.
