I also have a shade zone close to my house and last years did very well for me calladiums and ferns for example. Also oxalis triangularis mijke was fantastic and provided beautiful color until winter - rich burgundy leaves with a profusion of pink little flowers. Bigger plants - hydrangea macrophylla, fatsia japonica, nandinas grow beautifully in the shade here. This year I want to try browalia and achimenes varieties as flowering plants, which don't need much sun.
How about camelia, come in espalie form to. Spider plants do well outdoors and their variegation makes them stand out in dark areas, less fusy than ferns( which I adore) and evergreen. Pots are beautiful. Happy International Women's day all.💪👄
Wathcing this again on 12/30. I’m so ready for spring. I really love the selections of your containers. I’m making a list of these! I don’t a have mush shade or suggestions but cast iron plants are very hardy and evergreen. Highly recommend!
Mountain Snow Pieris for a small shrub. Mine didn't bloom this year due to the December polar blast, but the shrub hung in there and is starting to put on new foliage now. I never had any luck with bacopa, but I think they don't really like hot and humid. And I always tried them in a morning sun, afternoon shade location. I may try again, though because it has been several years; there may be some that are improved. Silver Falls is sold as an annual, and probably is in a pot, but I had some root in about 4 years ago and it comes back for me every year as a ground cover just off my patio. It has survived several polar blast/snow/ice events. I love the way it looks with pots set into it.
I’m looking for shady plants too. Loving the coleus and caladiums, hostas. I also bought some impatiens seeds. Ferns. Those two urns to the entrance would look awesome if they matched your front door.
I absolutely love these containers! So unique and I love the color combinations. Are they in full shade? I’m wondering if I could do one on my front porch but it gets some sun in the morning.
I love you old antique container. Is that a form of an old butter churn? Looks like it should have a dash hooked to that top piece that goes across the top. Very pretty.
🌺I tried picotee begonias last year. I ordered the bulbs online. Boy did they wow everyone! 🌸I gave one to my next door neighbor, one to my mom and one to my sister. I had to share the love. They did not disappoint!! 💮 Happy gardening!! 👩🌾Great video. I just subscribed.
Shade loving plants--soft caress mahonia (slow growing in a container), goshiki osmanthus, gold dust aucuba, various carex like evergold and evercolor. There are tiny hostas like blue mouse ears. Just a few that come to mind. Have fun!
Beautiful combos, as usual! 😍 Love those yellow begonias and wow, those black petunias look like velvet! I’ve not been a fan of grasses but I really like the fiber optic one you got and now I want an Angel wing begonia even more. 😁 Have never seen bacopa but how sweet. Really like the umbrella plant and the variegated Asian jasmine. Great selections, Amanda! I’m interested in your thoughts on potting soil. It’s gotten so expensive. I bought some at Costco and the StaGreen last year but they were a lot of wood chips. I bought some Sams brand last night to try it.
Your containers turned out really pretty. I also will be looking for shade loving plants for my containers for my porch. Love, love the vera gated groundcover. Can’t remember the name of it but it sure is pretty. Looking for the Dichondra too. The country pot is very cute and looks so good with all the plants 😍 Thank you enjoy watching.
What a beautiful start you have! Gorgeous containers. I love begonias and fushias. Have always had too much sun and wind. If it were me with that protected porch area, I'd do a fuchsa or two.
You could do Ferns and Hostas and any of the perennial shade plants in the pots and then just transfer to your beds in the fall. Autumn Brilliance ferns would be great. For you in your zone you could over winter them in the pots too. Just a thought.
Those are exquisitely composed with your brick! Bridal Veil (Tahitian) Tradescantia would also be lovely. It is more delicately leaved with tiny white blooms that look a little like baby's breath. I'm hoping to try that asiatic jasmine you used, it's gorgeous! Saw it last summer and put it on my camera roll for future ideas.
I live in zone 8 a and snow and summer Jasmine has been my absolute favorite but it is so much prettier in full sun because all the pink and white become vibrant.
Hi Amanda, I too love hostas. I garden in zone 6 in northeast Indiana. There are so many varieties of them that makes it so hard for me to choose. There are chartreuse colors and near white ones that will make your space pop. When you are done with them in your pots put them in your landscape or set them out as free plants for others to enjoy! Love those color combinations, I will use them in my shade garden. Happy Gardening, may Jehovah continue to bless you and all that is yours! 🙃🐞🌺🌻
@@shesamadgardener You should maybe give it a try. I think with all the colors and varieties you will find something that will fit your, taste, style, and shade space, especially if you google 'growing HOSTAS in pots'! Other shade lovers, huecharus (pretty sure I spelled that wrong) pulmonaria, astilbe, man I'm itching to play in the dirt! 😂
Don’t forget fushias as they really give a pop of colour! I love them and there are sooo many different varieties. I have a beautiful standard that is glorious. :D
I love hostas in containers and they are perfect for shade areas. The color and texture just make the container pop!
+michelle pollino I’m not a huge fan of Hostas but adding them containers might be cool.

+Gris Espino that is a wonderful idea!
Thanks for taking us on a garden center tour. Everything looks beautiful!
+michelle pollino I’ll do a more detailed tour in the next few weeks!

I’ve been wanting to try cast iron!

I would like to have a pieris at some point.
So pretty. As the trees grow more and more of my yard are shade gardens so I need adjust. Growing lots of coleus and lobelia.
+Brampton Gardener I love coleus!
What about caladiums? :) i am looking for Crested Surf (Japanese painted fern) for my porch container. Love your red coleus!
+MelissaR I love caladiums!
I’m looking for shady plants too. Loving the coleus and caladiums, hostas. I also bought some impatiens seeds. Ferns. Those two urns to the entrance would look awesome if they matched your front door.
+Deanne Williams that’s a great idea for the ferns!
I absolutely love these containers! So unique and I love the color combinations. Are they in full shade? I’m wondering if I could do one on my front porch but it gets some sun in the morning.
+Karen Schrantz yes they are in full shade but many of these plants can handle part shade.
Stay away from those daisies. Remember: you don't like them :) I also have too many Deutschland astilbe I can mail you some!
+Shark Sandwich 😂😂😂
Love this combo, I think I would have put silver cascading vine in middle and then add some of the color to right side, all reds are are one side?
🌷🌷🌷
I noticed that the fiber optic grass said full sun, so how will it grow in a pot in the shade? Both pots are very pretty.
I did this container a year or so ago and yes, the fiber optic grass needed more light … it never got any bigger!
Please be careful this not move the camera back & forth too fast .. I just couldn’t watch ! I began to to feel dizzy!
❤️
I love you old antique container. Is that a form of an old butter churn? Looks like it should have a dash hooked to that top piece that goes across the top. Very pretty.
I’m not sure what it is! I’ve had it for a few years and have never figured it out!
Beautiful plantings. I’m turning more to containers too. Great suggestions from others.
Thank you! 😊
Unrelated question… Are Lisianthus perennial for you?
+Car so far yes … they have just gone through their second winter for me.
Thank you! Very pretty and informative.
Thanks Liz!

Thank you for walking through the garden centre at the start and talking about what you were seeing, this gave me some great ideas!
You’re welcome!
These are gorgeous!
Thanks!
😊❤❤❤
Thanks Linda!
Beautiful but I am confused. You said it was for shade but some of those plants say SUN on them.?
The plants that said sun also handle shade.
🍂🪴BEAUTIFUL🪴🍂
