I only recently got into collecting art toys, and it is so cool to find out more about the background & history around these different kinds of toys 😻💖
Oh, how cool! I'm so glad I could shed some light into your toy collecting journey ^0^
I didn’t know the history of this toys! Thank you Charlie 🥰
aaw thanks for watching! ^o^' glad I could teach you hehehe ;)
It’s funny because since I work in the Aluminium industry I understand perfectly the mold part 🤣 but I never thought about the making process of the toys and is quite similar 😮
@@anaamitla9029 oh, that's right! I wonder if anyone in your business actually makes toy molds too? lol 😆
Very professional and informative! Thanks for putting this together : ) Great work!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words! ^__^
You are so informative and explain things so well! Loved learning something new! 💕次のビデオ楽しみ!
aaw thanks so much for watching! ^-^ glad I could teach you something new :D ❤
Great introductory video! I remember my first experiences learning about sofubi years ago and would've loved to have found a video like this back then, it would've been very helpful!
Sofubi is honestly such an interesting genre of toys and art: I'm an action figure enthusiast, and although it's not in my usual wheelhouse I have nothing but love and appreciation for this genre of toy. There's something so awesome about seeing artist's designs move from concept to sculpt to production through this lens, and the unique production methods and materials for the toys themselves result in some of the wildest things you'll ever see cast in plastic. There are figures made of sofubi that you would never see ever attempted/wouldn't be able to be made in plastics usually used for action figures and the like, and I always enjoy seeing what creators make from afar and getting ahold of what I can when I can. Good stuff.
aaw thanks so much for watching! ^0^ I really appreciate it!
and same! I think that's what really attracts me to sofubi is that it's just your every-day artist that creates these toys from start to end and they're all so different and unique ^_~ so much fun!
I have a sofubi spot in my heart for you Makinsan 😂
hahahaha thaaaaaaaanks for watchin' XD
Great video. As an art toy store owner, it's great to see things like this out there to help explain what sofubi is, its origins, why it's 'different', etc. Really great job and engaging :)
aaw thanks so much ^0^ I really appreciate it! and so cool you have your own art toy store!! I hope to make more videos in the future to help spread the world of sofubi to wider audiences ;)
AMAZING INFO: ❤️
hahaha thanks for watching, Mom! ^__~ ❤️
That Grape Brain figure is so cool
sorry for the super late reply but yes! ^0^ it's so cool, isn't it!? My Grapebrain collection has since grown lol can't get enough of them! ;)
Awesome video to the introduction of sofubi! We're hoping to make and sell keshi, and I think sofubi is a great inspiration to look at for their packaging and design.
thank you so much for watching ^0^ and wow! by keshi do you mean like "keshigomu" erasers? :0
I just learned so much!!!! Thanks Charlie!!! ❤️❤️❤️
thanks for watching! ❤️ ^-^ glad I could teach you hehehe ;)
Also!! Thank you for the note about buying directly from creators ❤️
you are so welcome! ^0^ as an artist myself, I believe it's very important to support the hard working artists and their craft, right? ;)
Wow this was a great video. I was looking to learn a little about Sofubi toys and this video did just that.
thank you so much for watching! ^0^ I'm glad I could help ;)
super! really interesting, thanks for educating in such a fun way 🥰
thanks for much for watching ^0^ glad you learned something from me ;)
So cute, I miss the capsule machines of Japan!
Oops wasn’t quick enough to post on the V.A.G (lol) one before the sofubi video loaded!
@@shawneemepham7001 hahah you're fine! I'll take all the extra comments I can get lol XD
Thx you for the vdo. Useful and joying to watch
thank you so much for watching and enjoying! ^0^ I really appreciate it!
Very well done, clear and informative video!! Congrats! Happy to follow you now!
thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed and it was helpful ^0^!
Nicely informative on a subject I'm only vaguely familiar with! I do have one example, a 'King Walder' I got to compliment my Henshin Cyborg, unfortunately it turned out to be about a head shorter than the Cyborg, so displayed next to him, he looks like a dwarf! No matter, he's a nice piece of work, slightly more complex in design and articulation than Sofubi usually are, and even the box is artfully displayable! Again, thanks for the info!👍👍👍
Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate it! ^0^
And that sounds like a very cool toy with lots of detail ;)
This was suuuuuuper helpful!!!!! Thank you for making this video!
thank you so much for watching! ^0^ and you're very welcome! :)
Just discovered your channel and it really gave me great information. Keep up the great work!
aaw thanks so much ^0^ glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching! :)
Awesome
Thanks so much ^0^
Love this video!
thanks so much for watching ^0^ glad you enjoyed!
excellent video!
I'm headin to japan may and will get to check out design fest hopefully i'm HYPED lol
i'll ask to get a couple of my toys autographed idk if thats a common practice though
gonna try to check out t base and one up to and any other stores that might have sofvi I can find
oh awesome! depending on when you come out here, there's SO many different events and conventions going on all year round. should be fun ;)
and while I've never personally had anything autographed, I have seen others get their goods signed so it should be fine. and possibly for a fee (depending on the artist) they sometimes do those mini 'shikishi' autograph art boards too sometimes.
TBase, One Up and Mandarake will be your best bet for new and old sofubi for sure ;)
have fun! ^0^ and thanks for watching!
Great explainter :)
Thank you so much! ^0^ I appreciate it ;)
Sofubi forever
WOOWOO! YAY SOFUBI! \^0^/
Good stuff
Thank you so much!! ^_^
@@charliemakintoys You are welcome. I do have a quick material question. I've been researching and experimenting for years on this stuff when it comes to the tool making process, but this is the first time Bronze plating has come up. From may experience and working with groups that have made my stuff, they have always used a layer of nickel then Copper. Is Bronze a new thing? Let me know and thanks.
@@Vancegeoffmen2 You know what, you are absolutely correct. I made a mistake, lol.
I was using my Japanese Sofubi magazine and Japanese websites as references and the kanji characters for bronze (青銅) is literally "blue+copper" and misread it for that. Sorry! ^-^'
My desert, my Arrakis, my Sofubi
so cool
thanks so much ^0^
interesting, I imagine a great pursuit for creators plying the craft and learning Japanese would be to translate publications like Creators Sofvi. Are there any efforts like this that you know of?
even for fun- that actually sounds like a good idea to try someday ;)
but I personally haven't heard of anyone working on an actual translated version of Creators Sofvi for international audiences.
As of right now it's just the one single magazine with no new issues for the future :( I hope that changes someday. I want more! ;)
Will you be attending this winters Wonderfestival? :)
I really really really want to cause I've never been but I probably won't make it all the way up to Tokyo for it :(
but I will be going to 'Wonder Toy Con' and 'SofuCon' in Osaka this Spring ^_^v
I love collecting Vinyl artist gacha! Are those considered sofubi?
yup! ;) they're made in the same style as the big ones and I love them too! I explain more about them in my other video (which I just now noticed you already watched too- thank you! hehe)
Hi! What’s the name of the green bowl/pink hair toy? :) thank you!
oh! that would be the adorable "Choco" by Tiyoko - the pink and green version I have in particular is the special "Spring" color-way version ^-^

@@charliemakintoys Thank you!! :D
❤❤❤
thanks for watching! \^0^/
Hi auntie❤️❤️
hey kiddo! ^0^ thanks for watchin'! miss ya!
6:24, how would you suggest overseas buyers to actually do? resellers will send them, but original artists mostly don't, even ones that aren't tied to copyright rules
I had to relay the knowledge on how a Japanese could send their doujinshi product overseas through years of connection through their local friends of friends, and meet in person, until they are certain to send me one directly, though, I'm pretty sure its not really that most Japanese who are 'afraid' to act, as I've sold and sent my fanmade figurines to them. gotta be sneaky and try to be all local methods until its too late, they have to finish what they started(asking recipient in alphabet because certainly my local post office don't read kanjis)😂
Now more than ever it's become increasingly easier for buyers/collectors outside of Japan to get sofubi from Japan. But you're right, not every artist does international shipping but majority of them (especially the popular ones) make a lot of effort to get their toys to everyone (especially to not lose out to re-sellers).
If you follow your favorite creator on Twitter/Instagram they occasionally might announce (in English) that they're doing international shipping.
But I also highly suggest following stores like "TBase", "OneUp", "MyPlasticHeart", etc because they usually offer international shipping and are partnering up with more and more sofubi artists all the time. In fact, those type of shops will usually have exclusive special color-ways only available through them which makes it even more special. ;)

@@charliemakintoys oh cool! glad to hear that at least the sofubi niche has some cover. I can use them as reference
I'm on the garage kit side of the drama and its non cooperative and both sides strange stereotypical blaming isn't helping.. as a 3rdworlder I can't even afford pirated garage kit so I just make what I wanted myself instead, turns out that old blog pictures and me trying to piece things out with learning from scratch without Japanese(now passed N3 while learning it), is more than enough, what did anyone know, mine's good enough for Japanese small doujin-fandom, lots of unique character designs to make too and asked permission I did😂
How can you get into making sofubi a if you live in the us?
Sorry, I'm not sure how creators outside of Japan produce their sofubi toys since I actually live in Japan- but I've spent the past year slowly integrating into the sofubi creators scene out here (mostly through Japanese twitter). I'm currently working on my own prototypes for my original characters to become toys and will create videos in the future documenting the process if you want to follow along ;) it's a very long, difficult and expensive process lol
@@charliemakintoys I would love to see your prototypes and It sucks it’s not really possible in the us
