Seeing the male reaction to Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me has been absolutely wild. On first listen I felt this song so deeply and fell in love with it because I related to it so much. To hear men say things like “Ugh that one was just weird/cringe” or “That’s a skip” I’m just like “!?!?!?!??????” Must be nice to not understand it in a bone-deep, soul-wrenching way I guess 😭
As a gay man myself, I feel like the larger issue is men who specifically haven’t felt challenged by society. Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me really speaks to the experience of having society strip you of your youth or agency, forcing you to join the “circus life” of adulthood far sooner than you should’ve been. It’s also an interesting song because it speaks to the feeling of both feeling like a complete outsider in society while also feeling like everyone is watching you. It’s a very anxious feeling and I think it’s so cool to see it represented in a song! To see that other men though, particularly straight white men, completely disregard that experience and don’t consider the emotions at play is really sad to see.
Completely agree. Theres a huge disconnect with what we experience in society that is just unknowable by the privileged. I say all this knowing there are men who listen and get it but a large and vocal group just don’t and honestly… maybe won’t and it’s just so sad because it’s such a common experience for us

Oh my gosh great video! This is one of the first TTPD rankings that I almost entirely agree with!!! The same thing happened to me with The Bolter where the first time I listened to it, I was a bit confused on who it was about. Now that I have fully processed it, it’s in my top tier for TTPD so I think if you give it some more time it’ll resonate with you more! 😊

Okay, so, Florence + The Machine. I'll give you the albums in order of my preference of them and give my top 3 songs from each. 1. Dance Fever. It's the most recent album and absolutely everything just slaps. Top 3: Choreomania, Cassandra and The Bomb (special mention to Dream Girl Evil) 2. How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. As I've gotten back into Florence I've gone back to this album and fallen in love with more and more of it's songs. Top 3: Ship to Wreck, Delilah and Third Eye 3. Lungs. This album was real big for me in the peak of my emo phase. Top 3: Howl, Drumming Song and Heavy in Your Arms 4. High As Hope. I think this album just has less songs, which is why it's not higher. Top 3: Hunger, Sky Full of Song and The End of Love 5. Ceremonials. I loved this more when I was younger, but the songs just don't quite hit the same now. Top 3: Never Let Me Go, Lover to Lover and No Light, No Light Or you can just listen to uh-oh (Under Heaven Over Hell) and get almost all the best stuff from across her discography 😂

Also, what Taylor said about this song paints such a distinct image in my mind “it’s a conversation between the young woman sitting in the chair, in front of the desk, and the man/woman in power, sitting behind the desk”.

My current favorites are: The Black Dog, Down Bad, Who’s Afraid Of Little Old Me, But Daddy I Love Him, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, I look In People’s Windows, I Hate It Here, Peter but I have no doubt that others will make it into “my beloved” category at some point because you’re so right, different songs hit you differently depending on what’s happening in your life, your experiences, etc. 🫶
No your feelings on I Can Do It With A Broken Heart are so real! I loooove the song, incredible performance on the eras tour, but it is so hard to listen to! That was the first song to make me cry on the album actually 😅 When I hear all of the sounds, it immediately sounds like the track that’s in your in-ears and the intro sounds like Mastermind to me. So I imagine this is what Taylor was hearing during the eras tour when she literally feels like she was SHOT in the chest and we just wanted MORE 😭 I feel the anxiety and the pressure of it all and it just hurts to know she was going through all of that and actually noooo oneeeee knew! Like most people didn’t even think Matty would get a song on TTPD 😢

In my honest opinion, I think that "Robin" is my least liked song on the album. It's just that, we endured the emotional resonance of "The Bolter", and then to follow it up with "Robin", I think it takes you out of the experience. Then of course we come back with "The Manuscript". Maybe it'll grow on me.
