Home Free auditioned for the SingOff four times but didn't make the cut the first three times. Between their third and fourth audition they added Tim and a few months later Austin. Rob joined in 2008. There is a funny video on Tim's channel introducing Chance in 2016 called Between Two Tims where he gives Adam Chance grief for not winning the SingOff when he competed with his former group during season 2.

You know the group was formed in 2000 by Chris & Adam Rupp in Mankato, Minnesota when they were in college. At this point, it was mostly a hobby. By 2007 they had enough of a following to pursue music full-time. During this period, they sang mostly pop songs, Chris & Adam and Matt Atwood (lead tenor) formed the core of the group. Rob Lundquist another Minnesotan, joined in 2008 after the group he was singing with disbanded. They reached out to Tim Foust who already had a reputation in the acapella world for some suggestions for a bass. For whatever reasons those people did not work out and Tim started guest subbing with them in 2010. Tim joined them full-time in January 2012. Later that same year they met Austin Brown on a cruise ship where they were all working. Home Free as guest stars and Austin was part of the in-house group of singers..Austin a self-described aca geek told them if they ever needed him just call. As it happened Matt was married and his wife was expecting their first child so he decided to retire from Home Free. They called Austin & he joined them full time in January of 2013. In 2016 Chris decided to leave to pursue other musical interests. They asked Chance to join the group.

I love Adam's long locks as well. I have heard that he grew his hair to donate to cancer charity. If that's the case, then another example of what he's like. Rob's voice is glorious, I love, love his tone and am so glad that he's getting over his attack of COVID Loving your reactions and the way you have fallen so far, so fast. The bromance with Tim seems to have developed into a bromance with them all now... I would recommend checking out some of their live stuff as well as their official videos. as you get a much better flavour of what they're really like as people, and it's all pretty amazing. Obviously the sound isn't as good with the live stuff but you get a flavour of how they put stuff over.

With the beatboxing, I think they all have gotten some tips from Adam but I think some of it they already did. I mean, Tim doing the subwoofer bass makes sense. Austin also does some guitar sounds (Do You Hear What I Hear?) And during live performances, he does an Harmonica duet with Adam during Man of Constant Sorrow. Rob did the beatboxing in the Guilty Pleasures for Adam's song. When Chris and Adam started Home Free, Chris was going to do the beatboxing and Adam sing but Adam decided he was more interested in the beatboxing. And now with Chance, he mimics the jaw sharp sound in Man of Constant Sorrow and does a funky guitar sound in "Can't Stop The Feeling"
And yes, I agree you need to do End of the Road to hear more of Rob. Then Some Girls Do to hear more of Chance. Then....you are ready to hear Mayday to be followed by My Maria from Austin and Tim. Don't do Mayday too soon. But you are almost there!

  • @stephanginther9051

The members of Home Free take turns taking lead and they try to match the song to the singer. Rob does not take lead often, but it tends to be memorable when he does. You are not the first to joke that he's your spirit animal either. Sweet is probably the adjective most used for his tone. A few songs where Rob takes the lead. 'End Of The Road', 'Blue Ain't Your Color' and a song *they wrote* called 'Why Not'. I request 'Why Not' soon. Its one of my favorite songs from them and definitely one of my favorites that heavily feature Rob.

Agree with the suggestions showing up here, especially “End of the Road “. Since you love the beatboxing, there is a hidden gem that you must see, as it has Rob singing a gospel lead, AND a fabulous beatbox breakdown. It is Home Free at the Hosanna concert in 2013 singing “Joy To the World “. It has a jazzy, ‘70’s R&B feel. I can’t get enough of it. Makes me love Rob even more. And we’re in the season now, sooo…

I don’t know if Adam taught any of them but Austin can also do a harmonica (he does it live when the sing Man of Constant Sorrow). Rob whistles beautifully in videos and does some beatboxing stuff on the video Man of Constant Sorrow. Chance does that mouth harp sound on Man of Constant Sorrow and Tim does bassy stuff! The live show I like is in St. Andrews Scotland in 2016 (by Kim Ball) as it’s filmed closer to them and the sound is really great. They do the beatboxing in that concert too. I just think it’s better quality. Good reaction SD!

There is absolutely a videos of The Sing Off hear on UA-cam. The five in this particular group had only been together for about a year before The Sing Off. They found Rob when the group he was in broke up. Tim they knew from social media and he sub with them for awhile, then joined. They found Austin on a cruise ship were he was a featured entertainer for the ship. He got to hang out with them and told them if you ever need someone to let him know. Not to long after that there high tenor left the group and they got ahold of him. As the saying goes And the Rest is History. Great reaction from you as usual.

About 2000 Chris and Adam Rupp started Home Free and Rob was a bartender and joined them early along with Matt Elwood (I think?) and another I don’t recall. Tim was a substitute math teacher and joined them in 2012…also in 2012 the group was performing on a cruise ship where Austin was a staff performer doing musical theater pieces primarily and trying to get rid of his Georgia accent. When they got together they decided to be unique and became the first Country Vocal Band. They were on season 4 of The Sing-Off in December 2014 and won. (BTW, PTX won season 3.) Adam Chance (aka Chance) was on the show at the same time as Home Free, with a group called Street Corner Symphony, where he sang bass. He replaced Chris in 2016. Yes there are videos of each performance individually, plus having videos of info about them and the judges’ comments. A number of people have reacted to them. Good luck…don’t forget to react to the best Story Time With Tim is Watch Me Whip/Nae/Nae…you’ll love it-it’s Home Free!!

The five founding members were brothers Chris and Adam Rupp, Matt Atwood, Darren Scruggs, and Dan Lemke; taking their name from a boat owned by Atwood's grandfather who helped support the group financially in the early years. The group began in 2000 as a hobby for the singers, but they gradually gained in experience and popularity. By 2007 they had enough of a following to pursue music full-time. During this period, the Rupp brothers and Atwood formed the core of the group, with Atwood singing lead tenor. They competed in an A capella TV competition "Sing Off" 4th season and won big !!! They won the TV competition the year after Pentatonix !!

As a British Home Fry - I never could really follow what Rob meant about deflating the footballs, so I'm sorry for bringing back the anguish, but I appreciate the explanation... It didn't mean I didn't love the performance, though and I'm glad you reacted to it, I thought it might be just your thing. As somebody else said in the comments, Adam grew his hair out for a couple of years, then donated it to a charity that makes wigs for children with cancer - apparently he'd done it once before, and is planning on doing it again at some point.
As far as I can tell, they are not resting on their laurels, they'd love to have a number one country album and/or appear on the country award shows. But they'd rather do it in their own time and in their own way - they bought out their record contract and went independent a couple of years ago, they use UA-cam, Patreon and social media to connect with their fanbase, and all the evidence is that they genuinely love making music - they're not in the business of being famous for the sake of being famous.

Chris Rupp started another a cappella group with their sister, Tristin. Check out their stuff too. And he started a group called Cypress Fyre. He has solo stuff posted too.

Awesome reaction my friend❣️ Chris Rupp has a video on his channel called “History of Home Free”!! I knew something about how they got started, but was pleasantly surprised by how in-depth it was. You will REALLY enjoy that video ♥️

If you like Rob singing lead, catch him in HF's cover of "Blue Ain't Your Color". The guys break out some Motown/Temptations moves and Tim hits some impressive lows along the way.

Rob takes the lead in several songs, most notably the Boyz II Men cover of "End Of The Road" ua-cam.com/video/-lCRFAFtj-A/v-deo.html. And he and Austin take turns singing lead in "Travelin' Soldier" ua-cam.com/video/lOAFXvtEWac/v-deo.html. If you watch enough Home Free Videos you'll see that all the guys get their chance to shine individually.

I love that old movie. Great song too. I also had THAT kind of job for a very long time. Having the correct clothing for those jobs helps, but man so happy to get home to kick off my shoes, get into my shorts and tank top, here in the south it is still in the 80' or more close to bedtime. I like the new video of this song that they did, hilarious! And itty bits of it were pretty much accurate. LOL

You‘ve heard Tim beatbox before. He does it in the Butts remix when Adam does the scratchy stuff while Rob is rapping. Adam said that when he needs someone to fill in some vocal percussion in the live shows he goes to Rob or Tim. You‘ll also notice that during the little „battle“ sequence, Adam supplemented Austin and Chris but not Tim and Rob.
I want to suggest you do Lil Red Riding Hood from the patreon party. You already saw a glimpse in the Tim subwoofer video and it is really good and really funny.

As awesome as this live version is, you'll wanna check out the official version. It's a marvel of a vid and the sound is waaay better. No group beatboxing of course but well worth a watch. Btw, nice sauce. Oh and Rob is the only one wearing dad jeans. Ya gotta love that.

I imagine that Adam gave suggestions, if not lessons. You have watched Butts Remix…. There is a scene where Tim and Adam are together, and Tim is brushing his shoulder off. And another scene where Tim and Rob are together, and Rob is holding his hand up to defend himself. In both cases, In the first case, Adam is beatboxing, and Tim is getting splattered (spit on). The second one, Tim is beatboxing and spitting on Rob…. Tim sometimes fills in when Adam is doing something special, like the record scratch in Butts Remix.

Rob and Adam R. are Minnesota Vikings fans. (from Minnesota) Tim likes Dallas Cowboys (he's originally from Texas) and The Patriots also. Austin likes Atlanta Falcons (He's from Georgia) and Chance likes Miami Dolphins (he was born in Florida and raised in Alabama) Chris was "follicly challenged" like you on top when he was in Home Free, since being on his own he got something done so he can grow hair now and he has some on top.

Great reaction! Austin has given shout-outs to reactors after his personal video's and done interview's with reactors who have reached out to him and asked. Might have to go through their manager, not sure! Reactors that could give you answers are Brad Steel and Lyle of Patrol Gaming! Might be difficult now since they are touring again.

Yes don't know how Rob joined but they acquired Tim after their bass left due too medical reasons they added Austin while doing a show on a cruise ship where Austin was the house entertainment then when Adam Rupps brother left in 2016 they got Adam Chance
