I am so thankful that I got to see Jim and Maury not too long before they died. It was a GREAT show. It seems as though my life has played out like a Jim Croce ballad. He told of hurt, happiness and everything in between. I really wish I could start over and spend more time enjoying life, probably be a little kinder and Not take so much for granted. Thank You Jim and Maury for some wonderful songs and memories. Dreaming Again was one of my favorites and It doesn't have to be that way too.
He writes like a wide eyed school boy in love and he shared his diary with us in the most personal way, and we love him for it. Keep playing his music folks, the world needs Jim Croce.
Agree. I was a High School sophomore when he died, ADORED his music then and that has Never changed. It hurt my heart that just as he was starting to receive acknowledgement, notice and success for his talent, he was gone. It still hurts my heart 💔
How someone so young could write such deep meaningful lyrics is beyond my understanding. One can only imagine what he could have written had he not died so tragically. RIP Jim, your music still lives on and your memory will be forever in our hearts
Today's my dad's birthday. He's been gone for 3 years, but he was a huge Jim Croce fan. I remember always hearing this and country roads so much growing up. Miss u dad.
At 68 today remembering and growing up singing this song and many of his in the 70's I can't help but feel sad for the road less traveled and the collision course we are heading towards that brick wall we all will hit sooner or later....
Even though I was only 4 when Jim and Maury died, their sound has had a profound effect on my life! Thanks guys!!! RIP guys 🙏💔😢 🙏 Hope y'all will shake my hand if I'm lucky enough to get to Heaven!
man I love this guy's music. Reminds me of all the awesome hours I got to spend with my pops. Still brings me to tears to think he died 3 years ago. Semper FI, miss you pops
the glimpse of yesterday back on my mind, when i heard this song's again by jim croce, these dreams, lovers cross, alabama rain,,operator, and more!wow high school life!!!thanks Megan Smith,
Alyn Camp Best Jim songs in my opinion 1-Bad bad Leroy brown 2- You don’t mess around with Jim 3- Roller derby Queen 4- speedbull tucker 5- I have to say I love you in a song 6- age
This isn't the original version from 1969 with his wife Ingrid (Bombs Over Puerto Rico album)....this is the version he recorded in 1973, that was released shortly after his death ("I Got a Name" album). Somebody else has posted the actual "folk" version with Ingrid from 1969, check it out. Good to hear the song's roots....and at the same time, you have to ask: How the hell could Jim write with such understanding of life (looking backwards - song's perspective) at age 25/26 when the song was written?! Amazing ability to have absorbed life experiences he had heard about and then be able to translate that into meaningful lyrics. He would of gone on to be one of the best artists of the 1970's and perhaps beyond. Maury's presence on this recording takes it to the next level....it's one of my Top 3 fav Croce songs!
Some people have gotten an introspective and vivid idea of what life really is about. Too bad some of us never get to complete their plans. Like I posted on my facebook site: "Want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans."
Hey this is Clint Davidson. I don't know how old you are and it doesn't matter. But I really like your idea of good music, and it makes me happy to see that you are open minded about what you like and listen to Megan. I enjoy just about all of it. You have a old soul and spirit. Too bad that more people don't live threw music. Be Happy, Love Life, And Stay Free.
One of the few songs that Jim re-recorded on a later album. The one that got released shortly after he died in that horrible plane crash 50 years ago in September. One of the great story-tellers. No telling were Maury's music would have taken him. I wonder how much of an impact he would have made on the world if he had been able to have a much longer career. A promise that he was not allowed to keep. I was in my freshman girlfriends dorm room in college when I heard the news. Hard to believe it has been almost 50 years.
I agree. The earlier version is faster, more breezy, and - in a subtle way - not as deeply felt as this version. The earlier version is like a demo that he handed to his older self a few short years later. I don't feel his is the story of a talented spirit who died to soon. It's more of a gift that he created three albums and a few dozen songs which, decades later, matter to people who first heard them when they were new - and people now discovering them. 🐧
I was 18 when Jim Croce died in a plane wreck. Before his untimely death, he only had a few hits: "I Got A Name," "Operator," "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown." I've always enjoyed his music. He reminds me of Gordon Lightfoot.
"Age" I've been up and down and around and 'round and back again, I've been so many places I can't remember where or when. And my only boss was the clock on the wall and my only friend Never really was a friend at all. I've traded love for pennies, sold my soul for less, Lost my ideals in that long tunnel of time. I've turned inside out and around about and back and then Found myself right back where I started again. Once I had myself a million, now I've only got a dime, The diff'rence don't seem quite as bad today. With a nickel or a million, I was searching all the time For something that I never lost or left behind. I've traded love for pennies, sold my soul for less, Lost my ideals in that long tunnel of time. I've turned inside out and around about and back and then Found myself right back where I started again. And Now I'm in my second circle and I'm headin' for the top, I've learned a lot of things along the way. I'll be careful while I'm climbin' 'cause it hurts a lot to drop, When you're down nobody gives a damn anyway. I've traded love for pennies, sold my soul for less, Lost my ideals in that long tunnel of time. I've turned inside out and around about and back and then Found myself right back where I started again.
My name is Jeffrey, middle name Arthur. Parents never liked JA, so I was AJ. Only nickname for AJ is Age. My dad died in 2016. He was a huge Jim Croce fan and I just discovered this song recently.

2024 and I still listen to Jim Croce...."Age" being one of my favorites
He writes like a wide eyed school boy in love and he shared his diary with us in the most personal way, and we love him for it. Keep playing his music folks, the world needs Jim Croce.
He sings like a wide eyed school boy, he writes like a reflective old man.
Amen!

It hurt my heart that just as he was starting to receive acknowledgement, notice and success for his talent, he was gone. It still hurts my heart 💔
I just realized. He’s been gone for 50 years now!
song that says no matter where ya go, there you are. One of my all time favorites.
This artist is sooo under rated, I don't understand why he is not in the hall of fame. Everyday perfect lyrics, truth, voice and arrangements!!!

Jim Croce was a true poet , his music was the wave that sent his story straight to the heart.
Sure was the very best in the business.
This song makes me want to cry and smile at the same time!! I thank God for Jim Croce but only wish we had him a bit longer.
I will have this song played at my funeral... It truly is the epitome of my life... Thank you Jim Croce... RlP.

I've seen a lot of highways that looked just like this. Many in Oregon.
His BEST tune..
Surprised to see this song did not make it to top 10 hits in 1973.

The second and better version of one of Jims best.

A song for Eliis Boyd "Red" Redding of "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994), on his way to Zihuatanejo...
Wish you would make this into a karaoke version
