  • If you have been thinking about leaving America and living Abroad, Priestess Haneera Abounu shares exciting news about repatriation in Benin.
    Benin’s president Patrice Talon introduced a bill to parliament to grant citizenship to Africans in the diaspora affected by the transatlantic slave trade.
    Many other African nations such as Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Senegal, and others in the ecowas (economic community of west african states) have created a streamlined process to grant citizenship to the descendents of those brutally extradited from the Motherland.
    The Beninese government has given three ways to establish proof that you are a descendent from those affected by the slave trade including evidence of civil status documents, authenticated testimonies, or DNA test by accredited institutions in Benin.
    If you meet requirements you will receive a Beninese passport and after spending “a few days'' in the country before the passport expires you will receive a nationalization certificate. This is exciting for the travel noir pan african community. A beninese passport will allow you visa free access to 35 countries which is incredible for those who want to live the digital nomad life or for those who want to live and raise their family somewhere with strong traditional values and principles.
    Priestess began her repatriation journey 4 years ago and has diligently been working towards getting citizenship in Benin. She will bring you along this next part of the journey and show you exactly what needs to be done to return your bloodline to its ancestral land.

    Great info!
    Per my own research I’ve discovered that we are granted temporary Beninese status for 3yrs.
    During that 3yrs we must visit Benin and stay for a number of days(like a week, they insinuated) and then we we will be granted “Full Beninese” status.
    That means we will be able to vote, run for office, even be the president or a judge; if so desired.
    This track is at least 2 yrs faster than the current pathway for all other ppl; as far as I know ❤

    One of my highest ancestries is in Benin Togo, You see, listening to this woman, confirms what I was thinking. she says the African country of Benin, is in the process of whether to grant citizenship to the descendants of the transatlantic slave trade. towards the end of the video, she mentioned we have a right to have a bank account there etc, but she also said that you don't have the right to vote, etc. so I was sort of suspicious about West Africa or Africa in general, dragging their feet to give citizenship to descendants of the transatlantic slave trade, I thought the reason they were slow to give citizenship is political reasons, and it seem as though I was right, because these African countries DO NOT WANT political competition when it comes to voting or elections.

      Another perspective is that we are just learning our African culture again, which means our current mindset and thinking is shaped by the colonial society we all are trying to escape from. So we can’t be trusted to lead African people. We can however be apart of the traditional kingships and royalty. I personally don’t have a desire to be apart of the military or political parties so this isn’t a show stopper for me.

      Well, as a Black American, we are our own people, just like other groups are their own people. There are probably some little things here and there, and likewise they may be able to learn some things from us, but we are our own people, we have our history and culture. There are so many different tribes and languages in Africa, us being there we are another tribe. Just us as African-Americans, our title and history is older than a lot of those African countries. Also our identity and history is in the Bible as well. So going to Africa, I don't think we really have to give up who we are and adopt who they are, because there are some lessons that we have learned, that they don't understand, Or can't relate to. For instance, Continental black Africans, seem to worship and idolize Europeans and Arabs, that is something that sets us hugely apart from them. I'm not saying that we are perfect, but I think we need to be ourselves and try to hold on to who we are as a people, even if we happen to intermarry with Continental black Africans, we still need to keep our history and identity as a people. Now I'm not sure if we can always stay in America, at some point we is Black Americans may have to leave America, but wherever we are in the world we need to try to stay connected as a people. One of the things that is hurting us as a people, is all this multiculturalism with these other groups. These other groups don't really reciprocate the kindness that we have shown or given to them, I'm not saying all, individually there are some great people that are out there, but collectively, they don't seem to be for us as a people.

      I respectfully disagree. As an African American, we should never forget that there is an African that survived the Atlantic Slave Trade as well as our African families that were left behind to suffer colonization and all its horrors. We are the same people! We should never separate ourselves from the ‘African’ before he/ she was forced to be a ‘slave’. It is totally disrespectful to our ancestors to call ourselves ‘our own people’. We are displaced, but we are still from the continent of Africa first! This is why we are separated by labels like ‘African American’ and treated with distain, discrimination in America to this day! We should want to connect to our families that we were taken by force in Africa and embrace our traditions and culture! This thinking of coming to Africa to separate yourself from your own people is exactly what the colonizers, slave masters and oppressors taught you and foolishly we unconsciously continue this pattern! Stop! Change this toxic mindset please!…We are Africans, and I am intelligent enough to relearn my culture history traditions and language! My ancestors on and off the continent of Africa have survived the unthinkable.! We are the same people with different experiences! How dare anyone say that it is impossible for me to learn… I am a defendant of the black race…the most intelligent, and adaptable race in the world!!! I can accomplish every goal that I set for myself! Those of you who think we should come to Africa and separate ourselves should remain in the countries of you are in! Don’t bring this toxic behaviors to Africa! By the way I am a descendant of the Africans forced into slavery in America if anyone wants to know.

    • @knowledgeseeker6955
      @knowledgeseeker6955 3 місяці тому +1

      The logical reason behind Benin not allowing African diasporas to vote or run for office is because they are afraid that with their small population just over 13 million, the diasporas obtaining citizenship may grow to be the majority in the country making the actual citizens of the country a minority. That means they will take up government positions. Unlike countries like Ghana, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Kenya Tanzania Uganda south Africa who have a good amount of population. So the Benin government had to put in place no voting no getting into government. It's citizenship with conditions, I don't see that as a better option in the long term. What that is telling us is we want you home but you won't have no say in the affairs of the country which creates a distinction between the diasporas and the Benin population citizenship, so while the Benin citizens go out to vote, you with your citizenship can only stand on the side lines and watch without participating. But there shouldn't be a competition between African countries. The Ghana jab was uncalled for.

      My intent is not to start ish but to speak some honest truths. I love Ghana, I am married to a Ghanaian, live half of the year in Ghana and run a hospitality business there. That being said Ghana has been prone to cheap rhetoric and gimmicks for a minute. The Homeland Return Bill for Diasporans has not been a priority despite the rhetoric and unlike Benin will receive some push back in Parliament. It will eventually pass but Patrice Talon is Paul Kagame’s mentee. He has said as much himself. He is not a talker he is a doer. Benin and Rwanda are comparing notes on almost everything and are the top 2 countries in my opinion for Diaspirans who want transparent, streamlined, efficient and corruption free legalization and residency on the continent. They are also countries with strong economies that are governed well.

      I like how Ghana is operating it doesn't rush to do things. In fact it may never entirely roll out citizenship because seeing how some of us diasporas are and how they can be very disrespectful, would make one to be cautious about rolling it out. The Benin government was very tactical too. They basically said people can get citizenship but they won't have no say in the affairs of the country. Their citizenship will be a watered down citizenship not like the actual Benin people. Sierra Leone also gives out citizenship to the diasporas but you have to have lineage from that country if not you can't get it. So you see Ghana citizenship has been given to any diasporas regardless of lineage and without conditions. Yet I don't think they will be rolling it out. But well-done to Benin hopefully it goes well and you don't hear people coming online to disrespect them in years to come.
