Also, Al-Dhahabi is the teacher of ibn Kathir. Not the other way around.

Imam Dhahbi was teacher of Ibn e Kathir not Student. Imam dhahbi was student to Imam Ibn e Taymiyyah Alhamdulillah.

What is the source of this story? In which book did he write these words? I only managed to find this:

( 113 ) محمد بن أحمد الذهبي ( المؤلف ) "الذهبي المصنف محمد بن أحمد بن عثمان بن قايماز ابن الشيخ عبد الله التركماني الفارقي ثم الدمشقي الشافعي المقرىء المحدث مخرج هذا المعجم ولد سنة ثلاث وسبعين وستمائة ( 673 هـ1274 م ) وأجاز له أبو زكريا ابن المصري وابن أبي الخير والقطب بن عصرون والقاسم الإربلي وعدة وسمع بدمشق من عمر بن القواس وببعلبك من التاج ابن علوان وبالقاهرة من الدمياطي وبالقرافة من الأبرقوهي بالثغر من الغرافي وبمكة من التوزري وبحلب من سنقر الزيني وبنابلس من العماد ابن بدران وجمع تواليف يقال مفيدة والجماعة يتفضلون ويثنون عليه وهو أخبر بنفسه وبنقصه في العلم والعمل والله المستعان ولا قوة إلا به وإذا سلم لي إيماني فيا فوزي"
وقال عن نفسه في ذيل ديوان الضعفاء (ص: 56)، فقال:
345 - محمد بن أحمد بن عثمان الغافقي: "سيء الحفظ ليس بالمتقن ولا بالمتقي. سامحه الله تعالى."
