What a complex voice! It's like a decadent spice cabinet with limitless possibilities. Just a year ago I didn't know who Steve Perry was. I was grieving my Mom's departure. She asked me (in a dream) to go shoe shopping as a means to lift my spirit up. While in a store, I heard the voice on the radio. I asked sales people if they knew who was singing. They didn't know but kept offering me shoes to try. I couldn't care about shoes. All I could think of is getting home and googling some lyrics and hopefully getting more of the voice. The voice became my best medicine. Thank you God, Mom and Steve Perry.
My condolences on the loss of your mother. My mom passed in August of 2015. It's been 3 years when I rediscovered Steve Perry. His music with Journey & solo albums helped me with the grieving process. On UA-cam, look Midnight Special Journey Feeling that Way & Anytime 1978. That was the first time Steve Perry on TV with Journey. Man, you could just hear & see that a star was born right in front of your eyes amazing!
@@irenez9382 Wow the same thing happened to me. My mom died 4 yrs ago and my two kids went off to college, and in my alone grieving time I rediscovered my long-lost crush, Steve Perry. He's been a part of my life since. Watching his videos, interviews, just hearing his voice (singing or talking), and my troubles fade in the background. Apparently he has this mesmerizing effect on all of us!!

Be us single, divorced, widowed or married, we still enjoy music and are not interested in the younger music of today. We've had our struggles, raising children, losing jobs, relocating and paying our bills. At our age, the one thing we need is inspiration to appreciate each other and love one another. You are an amazing talent, an even if you didn't want to do concerts, please continue to make music for us. You are inimitable and still loved by so many. I preordered Traces months ahead and was not disappointed. Thank you for that.

Music has always been so important to me. I'm almost 62 yrs old and I can't say I've ever been a "fan" of any one band in all this time. But, there are bands that I respect so much for there talent, their ability to last over the decades, the way they make a person feel with their music. There are singers who literally touch you every time you hear their voice. Of course, Steve Perry is one of those iconic singers (with or without Journey). When he stopped recording, it was sad for me to know that he wasn't pursuing music anymore. I so enjoyed his voice and his power. So, my husband and I were bored one afternoon during this quarantine period and we decided to turn on YT and listen to some of our old favorites from the 70's and 80's. The second search we made was Steve Perry. I was excited to see his new project, Traces. I love it. His voice is somewhat mellower with age. Not quite as Crystal as it once was. But, he is still Steve Perry and there is no one like him. Not even the new guy Arnel with Journey. He's a good imitation, which is the sincerest form of flattery. I hope that's how Steve feels about him. I also hope he's aware of the legend, the icon, that he is after his years with Journey and the music he made then. His music touches your soul, raises the little hairs on the back of your neck, stays in your head even when you aren't listening anymore. As we get older in this life, some of us want to know that the world was a better place for having us here. I sincerely hope Steve Perry knows this about himself. His music will live on long after he is gone.

He's a gorgeous creature, no matter the hair color, no matter the age. My favorite of his hair styles is in his official video "You Better Wait" (UA-cam), that slicked back top and ponytail totally slay me (he would also look great with the currently popular man-bun)....not to mention the performance, lyrics, vocals, and instrumental babes in the background...such a fantastic tune, I can't get enough. I also love Traces and his holiday CD....let's face it, I just love him !! Obtw, his Dan Rather interview just makes you admire him all the more.
Yes, he puts his heart and soul into his songs. Many speak to 'the Voice', but I think his songwriting (music and lyrics) are just a awe inspiring....so many of his Traces songs are incredibly moving, nobody else plows so much heart & soul into their songs.
