I have both the X-Mid 1 and 2 Solid, I took the two-person on the Coast to Coast last year, the problem I had was the larger footprint in finding wild camping spots. Once it was up though it's a large amount of room to organise yourself and kit.
The ability to roll the fly completely up cylindrically from one corner to the other, making a starlight tent for those hot nights and the ability to be able to quickly unroll to cover up if the weather changes is superb.
For maximum upgrade points, I recommend a tiny carabiner and 6" of cord on the grab handle of your Bergen tied round the mud basket on your pole to suspend your Bergen off the ground and maximise air flow, thus reducing condensation through the tent.
I like to get my X Mids taut before I use the ridge guylines. Using the guylines to tighten your tent is in my opinion wrong as it should be tensioned through all four corners and poles to be bass drum tight before you pull out on the guylines Which I only use once it gets over 25 mph gusts.
For Guylines I have replaced with Lawson Ironwire as the originals are reflective and I carry two additional with a tactical toggle from henge hammocks for quick threading and tensioning. I have added Six 6" 3mm bungee loops larks-headed too the four base loops for pegs and two to the mid panel tie outs for inclement weather☁️☁️☁️ The toggles help with going to porch-mode (door with guyline to peg to make a larger admin area) for easier cooking as I have had a clumsy moment when I poured a pot of boiling water on my genitalia and dried it by firing a lit gas burner at my crutch simultaneously!

@@VapourTrailz Now that's a write up. Your gonna be making me spend some cashola
ill have a look into henge hammocks and ill try getting on parade for 6 & 10s dropping your channel in the mix. but i wont mention the boiling water on the Genitalia.
To be honest I'm a little pissed with Durston as they cant be bothered to give you more guy lines a little disappointing but none the less upgrades must begin. Cheers Sweetfart good info at the right time.

The toggles should see you change from a fiver, the lawson iron wire was dear (£30ish) and only available in longgg lengths from hennie haynes tho'
Try the easton 9" nails x6 and the sierra designs fl stakes x 4 for pegs +1 using your poo trowel in emergencies?

Great video! I always separate the inner from the outer, just to keep the inner dry. And also because it’s so hard to pitch in high wind when the inner is attached, it’s unwieldy. But when separated, the outer sets up easy even in a blizzard.

    • @escapeoutdoors.
      @escapeoutdoors.  2 місяці тому

Yeah I’ve started carrying in separate bags and pitching outer first but have had the odd moment when I just can’t be bothered with the inner and fall asleep for a quick 10 minutes Power Nap 😁

Nice. I've just broken a pole on my old faithful Vango tunnel and I'm thinking of using it as an excuse to buy one of these. Twice the price of the Vango but half the weight and lots more room! I'll need to buy the Durston poles because I often base camp in an area and spend days hiking so I need my trekking poles, so slightly more weight there...

Now I have had problems in the rain and it’s this tent where the outer fly touches the inner.
I actually wish I brought the Lanshan 2 over the Durston. At roughly the same weight. But you gotta do your research 🧐

I've got the X mid 2 solid, it's a great tent, it'll be accompanying myself and my daughter on the Pennine way at the end of the month. I see they've updated the pegs and the colour of the groundsheet again. A couple of tips....when you peg out the 4 corners, tighten the adjusters before you insert the poles, it'll be taughter and sit better, also, I added 4 more guys at the additional guy points, if you have the guy on the door edge straight out at a 90° angle to the side of the tent, and the end guy on the end panel also straight out at 90° from the end of the tent, it pulls the fly away from the inner considerably. Basically the 2 guys should be pulling that panel between them in opposing directions. I've got a video I've just posted on my channel highlighting my new pegs, but you can see how I used the guy lines. I hope this helps 👍🏻

Yeah it’s a great tent and that’s a hearty trail so all hearts out to you and happy hiking also have a good one and keep safe. We are half way through the Pennine way and loving it but we have to section hike it do to work a bit of a bummer but what a trail.

Really informative, thanks. A couple of things though: I've noticed that you've commented in a couple of replies that you're not getting on with this tent anymore, due to the fly touching the inner. Did you find an easy solution to that, or is it still a problem? Also, how does this thing cope in British windy conditions? Thanks for any answers provided, and all the best!

Well i can tell ya I’ve given up on watching the big UA-camrs and the lies they tell you just to get more products from the tent maker. The truth is unless you mod the tent that means adding more guy lines to the tent ( not the standard that it comes with ) it may be ok. The solid only comes with 2 guy lines but like I’ve shown you can add more.

You know I’ll side with you on that. My opinion I wish I stayed with the Lanshan 2 as far as I’m concerned that’s a better tent than the Durston p2 if you put price in the fix too.

@@escapeoutdoors.interesting, I have the 1p solid and it’s a great wee tent but I can’t think why it can’t come with a 2 way zipper.
As for the Lanshan, I’m not totally convinced. A fair weather tent at best, but like you said, a better deal when you consider costs.

Just add a zipper slider above the zipper near to the top then you can vent the top half
