- Why are Georgians (from the country not the US state), fighting on the battlefields of Ukraine? The Georgian Legion was formed by ethnic Georgians in 2014, and was one of many volunteer battalions actively serving alongside the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Donbas region against Russian-backed separatists. Thank you for covering this topic, they really deserve that more people know about them. They actually are now deployed both in Kyiv and in Donbass according to few of the Georgian Legion members. They often update how they are and what they are doing on their social media pages or with Georgia's medias (ofc not in full detail because it might exploited).
i have a friend from georgia who recently joined the legion. im incredibly sad and dealing with the thoughts of me possibly losing him.
but besides that im also incredibly proud of him. he will be a hero no matter what.
i wish and continue wishing him and all the other georgian soldiers the best and may this be over soon so they can return home safely.

Saakashvili sure wasn't ever risking himself. He was in Ukraine because he was in exile from Georgia. Even his supporters wouldn't call him courageous in face of danger. From the 2008 war, there are video clips of him taking off running in panic and leaving his bodyguards behind when he heard an explosion. Zelensky he is not.

I am not a fan of Saakashvili in any way, but in that video he is simply being shielded from bodyguards in a war zone, and you would be terrified too if Russian fighter jets flew over your head.
and also, saakashvili didn't run from country like others do. western countries offered him to leave bcs russia would take tbilisi (capital), but he said no and dissolved front line, instead, started to guard tbilisi (like it happened in chechnya war). he also funded mariupol defence system, which proved to be working

And a shared history. Ukraine helped evacuate Georgians from Abkhazia in 1993, saving thousands of lives. And in 2008 Ukrainian President (along with 4 other Presidents) arrived in Tbilisi to pressure Russia into stopping the advance on the Capital.

I find it to be a very interesting topic. It reminds me of hundreds of Georgian exiles that served in the Polish military since 1922 as special "contract officers".
Also, I really hope for a similar video about Belarusians fighting on the Ukrainian side. I just learned that a new battalion of Belarusian volunteers is named after Kastuś Kalinouski (Konstanty Kalinowski) - one of the main leaders of the January Uprising of 1863-1864 in the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
I also keep hearing some troubling reports about members of the Belarusian diaspora encountering hostility because of this war despite them often being victims of the Lukashenko's rotten regime themselves, forced to flee their country and very much supporting Ukraine.

@@datozakareishvili9888 There is a Wikipedia article 'Georgians in Poland' with sections: 'Georgian Prometeism' and 'Georgians in the Polish military service'. It also appears to have a Georgian language version (although shorter). I think it might be a good place to start.

Algorithm for foreigners to join the Foreign Legion of Ukraine:
Step 1. Apply to the Embassy of Ukraine in your country with the intention to join the Foreign Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine (ask a military diplomat or Consul, contact details - on the Embassy website): There are three ways to apply: 1) come to the Embassy physically; 2) phone call; 3) write to email.
Step 2. Specify what documents and clothing (equipment) you need or recommended to have.
Documents: internal document (ID or passport); passport to travel abroad; documents confirming military service (service in law enforcement agencies) and participation in the combat actions; other documents as requested by military diplomat or Consul.
Step 3. Arrive at the Embassy with documents for an interview with the Defense Attache and settlement of visa issues with the Consul.
Step 4. Write an application for enlistment in the Territorial Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for military service under a contract on a voluntary basis (the Defense Attache assists).
Step 5. Get instructions on how to arrive in Ukraine and about the necessary documents and equipment.
It is recommended, if available, to have military clothing or its elements, equipment, helmet, body armour, etc.
Step 6. Go to Ukraine in a defined way. Representatives of Ukrainian Embassies, Consulates (abroad) and Territorial Defense in Ukraine will provide assistance on the way. Contacts will be provided at the Embassy of Ukraine in your country.
Step 7. Upon arrival in Ukraine at the collection point to join the Foreign Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine (sign the contract) and together with fighters from other countries and Ukrainian soldiers go to fight against the Russian occupiers.

Georgia is one of the best countries in Europe. It is literally the only European country that has a replacement fertility rate and thus the only country in Europe which is not currently dying. They do not need any "support" from the corrupt fools in Western Europe who are destroying their own countries. Georgia is on brink of a golden age where they will become a cultural, intellectual, and economic powerhouse of the entire region.

Georgia has had more births than deaths every year for over a decade excluding the 2020-2021 Covid years and even that was just a tiny loss of natural population. The reason Georgia's population shrank from 1991 until now is entirely due to migration. The Georgian population has not gone done. There is simply a large Georgian population living abroad. And the reason the Georgian government did not join in sanctions is because the Georgian government are not idiots! Russia and Turkey are Gerogia's top two trading partners. It would have been total madness to join those sanctions. Energy and food prices would have skyrocketed which would have been catastrophic given we are already struggling thru a period of rapid price inflation worldwide. Instead, Georgia is going to benefit greatly as the closest "open" country to Russia in Europe.
China was also invaded, taken lands from by Russia. Chinese civilians had been being murdered by Russian troops for over 100 years.
I am ashamed that there is no/few Chinese fighters are fighting for Ukraine today.

In the “Lawnmower War” Azerbaijan showed the world just how devastatingly effective attacks are from low cost UAV’s. Remember the “40 mile tank column” that was north of Kiev, I’ve NEVER seen a FATTER target for UAV’s in my life! I will never claim that boots on the ground aren’t important but Ukraine needs UAV’s (w/pilots) and integrated communications FAR MORE than front line volunteers! The effectiveness that 10 UAV pilots (w/UAV’s) can inflict is clearly superior to a fighting force of 150. Keep this fact in the back of your mind when you see the kind of aid being given to Ukraine vs what would really stop the Russians while avoiding redline issues like NATO fighters/no fly zone/ect.

Hello Hilbert. I kept an eye out for Georgian soldiers on UA-cam after you mentioned them previously. I spotted one on an Australian video. There were also Belorussian volunteers shown training in Ukrainian service.
I then watched a DW video on Georgia Russia border.
My old Ukrainian neighbour in UK had mixed feelings on "Grussians" because of Stalin. I had asked him about Soviet FM Eduard Shevardnadze, later toppled as Georgian leader.
Stalin was a Russian politician though. Under his rule Russia invaded independent Georgia, sent Georgian intelligentsia to Gulags or simply murdered them the same way as in every other invaded Soviet country. Not liking Georgians because of Stalin is like not liking Austrians because of Hitler.

I’m a US government contractor (Diego Garcia, Poland, & Kuwait) that volunteered and filled out their 1 paper application for the ILoTDoU on the 1st and still haven’t received a reply back! For 10 days straight I emailed them for a response (yes or no) but finally decided since it’s clear they don’t see me worthy of a reply then they aren’t worth fighting for! While being on the front lines isn’t my specialty, building 18-34m antennas, microwave hops, cellular communications, and other communication/detection systems is which I know are needed. I have two friends with similar qualities (both are better than me if being honest) that have been ignored as well so I’m starting to believe that maybe just maybe the plan isn’t for Ukraine to win but to keep the war going on as long as possible.

While it makes sense that Georgians would support Ukraine, I'm curious to how Armenians feel about this war. On one hand, for obvious reasons Armenians tend to dislike autocratic powers violently invading their smaller neighbors just cause they can. On the other hand, Armenia sort of owes its continued existence to Russia, so I imagine that the government is going crazy trying not to tick off Putin in any way. I assume there is a lot of mixed feelings in the population.
From what i have seen from the comments most support Russia in the conflict.

Armenians try not to get involved, they are equally sympathethic to both ordinary ukrainians and russians, because it was exclusively Putin and his few cronies who decided to attack Ukraine, not ordinary russians. In fact, given the current anti-russian hysteria, Armenia is one of the very few countries in Europe where russians will not be attacked only because they are russians. By the way, the same goes for ukrainians and belarussians.
As for the current leadership of Ukraine, when the last Karabakh war ended, Zelensky was warmly congratulating Aliev with the victory. In fact, at that time the whole Ukraine was full of the build-boards glorifying Azerbaijan and their victory. It's funny to see that now the very same Ukraine, whose president on multiple occasions called Aliev "Ukraine's good friend", gained a reputation of the country which fights for democratic values...
As for Putin, well, only 10-15% of the people that I know try to justify his actions as something that he was "compelled to do because of the West", but to tell the truth, before the last Karabakh war he was actually quite popular (around 55%) in Armenia. Anyway, our current leadership tries not to do anything to piss him off, because if suddenly Putin decides to invade Armenia and replace its prime minister with someone more convenient, we do not have any hopes that West will defend us as actively as it currently supports Ukraine.
I'm Armenian , in 2020 during the war Ukrainians were cheering on azerbaijan and Zelensky even supplied weapons and a banned chemical which they deny white phosphorus to azerbaijan air force that was used on numerous Armenian villages and left thousands with skin cancer. There are body scans and x rays of these pictures. After the war I saw many Ukrainians commenting their support to azerbaijan congratulating them and in their country in Ukraine there was a video where bunch of Ukrainians were holding azeri flags .
My thought about this is I don't give a shit about Ukrainians but I'm not supporting putin , I just couldn't careless . To us this is karma to them cause when the same exact thing was happening to my people in 2020 no one gave a damn other than Ukrainians that were supporting snd cheering azerbaijan.

As Hungary rushes it's army east to protect hungarian people, and theres a movement to "re-take" Zakarpatska oblast maybe you could cover the history of the region. This land was part of Hungary for thousand years and has a small hungarian minority who faced discrimination and herrasment in the last century but especially in the last decade under Ukrainian rule. Some of the cultural building were burned by Ukrainian nationalists and many of the hungarian intelligencia banned from public office. The new language law severely restricts the education rights of minorities likes hungarians. Many elderly still cope with the deportations of the Soviet Union. To add to all off this most locals feel alienated by Kiev saying that they are hungarians or carpato-rusyn not ukrainian so they have nothing to do with this war. As our semi dictator, is a nationalist and close to Putin in case of a full out war or you could see hungarian peace keepers in the region. Although it's a low chance even and there's very few independent article on the topic in English. I want to add that I don't support this movement of blatent imperials based on historical arguments, but I think the treatment of minorities in Ukraine is totally unacceptable and terrible.
