back in like.. asian countries (specifically china, where i'm from), boys were more wanted because of the military, which is what my mom told me. she even dressed me as a boy as a kid to save face for a bit before we moved to america and we were safe to not only have my sister, but now having a boy or girl doesn't really matter!
Ugh, that part about her overcoming depression and suicidal thoughts made me so happy, it brought me to tears. Good for her! 💜 Also, she's very funny. I hope she goes far!

As a trans girl who's very conscious about her body and voice, I really admire how confident she seems
I truly hope that you're able to move forward and grow more confident and comfortable in your own skin 💕 Hopefully that'll come as you move forward with your transition but, in the meantime, there is one positive - you can use it to sort the good from the bad. If people have a problem with either of those qualities (body or voice), place them in the "dumb fucks who aren't worth my time" pile. If people don't have a problem with either of those qualities, then they're worth keeping around 👍

I've had depression since I was 12 so I have a lot of confusion about whether certain traits of mine are just depression symptoms or aspects of my actual personality.
I'm starting to get better now finally with meds and therapy, but sometimes the recovery process is almost scary, it feels like I don't really know who I am anymore, since I never got a chance to meet non-depressed adult me until now. It's like my whole "personality" was really just a constellation of mental health symptoms and I'm a bit nervous but also really excited to find out who I am as a mentally healthy person.
My story is the same. Thanks for sharing yours. I'm with you on this journey of self discovery.
You are awesome! I commend you for your hard work. There are tons of people who delight in making their mental health problems their identity, even small easily curable ones like phobias of spiders.
they were both you and people can change. i validate that it's scary but it doesn't have to be. your depressed self is a survivor who lasted long enough until your non-depressed self could thrive.

Yeah, being an American, watching war movies that weren’t made in the U.S. is enlightening. Even as a mid-twenties woman who hates nationalism, I felt scandalized watching Korean movies and being like “whoa… America isn’t the hero country in literally every film” because I’m so used to sad Tom Cruise war movies

Straight facts about those Vietnam war movies, the overt racism and blatant one sidedness to every single narrative is just disgusting. When they’re not just completely glossing over the atrocities it’s always some white savior bullshit about how the suffering of the Vietnamese and the war overall affects the American soldiers. Not that ptsd from that war wasn’t a serious issue and a lot of the soldiers were either drafted against their will or had no idea what they were getting into, it’s quite obvious the damage to the Vietnamese was exponentially worse and that side of the story never gets told, it’s always just glorification of American soldiers. Also those knee socks/nylons are sexy af, she has great style.

This was a phenomenal set, particularly the first half and the end. A few of the jokes actually made me laugh, which is unfortunately not very common these days. I'm happy to hear that she was able to overcome her suicidal thoughts and depression, too. We lose way too many to mental illness. I'll be keeping up with her for sure.
