As a foreigner who lived in Ukraine I can support the facts that public sector staff, including restaurants, refused to speak in Russian language to me, despite the fact that many could not speak English and that was the only common language we could use to communicate. I lost count of the number of arguments I had with them about this(as I remember many of them even one month before this new law were happily talking in Russian to me!!) , and the number of times I told them that nothing good will come of this illogical prejudice behaviour
Russia has regularly committed genocide in history Ukraine so that they do not speak their own language, even though Ukraine's history has had a different course than Moscow's.
@@comment2462 Ukraine as a part of Russia (USSR) had population 52 million and before 2014 ,then became an independent state, ---- how many 38-40 million. Historically Ukraine SSR appeared thanks to the Russian Bolsheviks and later as a state to Russian nationalist ,before Ukrainian territory was always part of other states.
Kotsaba is a Nazi himself: he was the director of the Bandera Museum (Hitler's collaborator). He found himself in the opposition because after the coup in 2014 he did not get a monetary place in the new ruling elite. That's all: he was left without money and was offended by it.
Western hostility towards Russia continued even after Russia had accepted normalization and ended the Cold War. Why should a Soviet focused organization (NATO) have been kept alive after the Soviet Union and Russia had been stripped off its Western buffer space. Militarizing that in-your-face space was obviously a chilling threat for Russia. And one must commend Russia for patiently accepting NATO, *until* with NATOfication of Ukraine, Western missiles could be stationed 3 mins from Moscow.. in Sumy and Chernhiv. Note how in a similar position the US had a neurotic attack when missiles had been stationed in Cuba in 1962.
The use of Military Threats to promote economic effects has been a hallmark of Capitalism. As the Western Powers lose their power to extort resources from the former Colonies, the need to increase the level of threats appear to increase? Looking at the economic status of the G-7, who all had their own Empires at some time, the effect of their Colonies trading with each other appears to have caused some dramatic economic effects. Their "Supply Chain" seems to have stopped delivering Tribute to the Empires?
Not only missiles: you forgot about the 36 Pentagon biological laboratories on the territory of Ukraine. The existence of which Victoria Nuland admitted in Congress.
Let me guess: Duleba believes the division of Czechoslovakia along ethnic and cultural lines was a very good thing, but he balks at the division of Ukraine along similar cultural and ethnic lines? As they say about people like him: if they didn't have double-standards, they wouldn't have any standards at all.
Because Duleba doesnt speak about Ukraine at all. He speaks about Slovak internal politics, where there is the 600.000 ethnic hungarians, whom he wants to be silenced under the same nazi BS what he tries to use on the Ukraine case. He simply supports Ukraines illiberal policies, because thats exactly what Slovakia is doing to its minorities.
This is not an " illiberal " policy. This is racist genocidal self destructive crap. @@gaborrajnai6213So I guess according to him, it is perfectly fine for Slovakia to split from Czechia for language and cultural reasons, but when Hungarians want to preserve their language and culture on their ancestral lands, they can’t do that? Hypocrisy much?
He not only balks at the division of Ukraine, but the also balks at the prospect of Ukrainian Federalization. It is important to note that if they would have federalized 10 years ago and set up a system akin to the one in Canada, there would be no war and Crimea would still be part of Ukraine. Because if the Russian-speakers’ rights were respected and protected under the law, there would be no desire for them to split off and join Russia. This is why the Quebec independence movement isn’t as lively as it was before. Simply because most French Canadians are fine with the status quo when it comes to their language and culture. The same could be said for Swedish-Finns. But if Canada were to ban French and Finland were to ban Swedish, do you really expect the people in those areas to just sit there and go along with it?

In Finland we have this party of the Swedish speaking Finns, they get about 4,5% of the votes, which represents their size of the whole population, and so we have two official languages They say it's such an enriching thing to have two official languages, but their Party leader Anna-Maja Henriksson is firmly all against two official languages in Ukraine! She insists on this. So it's only enriching here...for them.. in no way in Ukraine .. go figure.. For all the Finnish speaking Finns it's mandatory to learn their language to be able to serve the Swedish speakers in public offices.
That is a wonderful example for several reasons. Shows how great 2 languages can get along, even if one is only a tiny minority AND how the entire Ukraine story has eaten up the brains of ppl who should know better. To explain this, we‘d need some reasonable psychological theory, I suppose, of why ppl become completely devoid of (strategic) empathy for other circumstances that should be clear to them-but isn‘t.
Ukrainian is a recognized language in Russia (where many Ukrainians live, incidentally). And it's protected by law, as are dozens of other languages. As for the French, Mr. Duleba, I don't recall them shelling their non-French speakers with artillery or attacking them with aircraft. Slovakia might consider finding a more qualified Russian/Ukrainian expert.

Professor Duleba is lying. The Russian language is prohibited not only in all official spheres, but also in cultural ones. Russian culture is completely banned in several regions of Ukraine, including Tchaikovsky, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Rachmaninov, etc. Let Duleba study the law of language properly.
Pushkin, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, and practically all other giants of Russian literature (including Ukrainian Nikolai Gogol, who wrote in Russian, as there was no pre-existing country-state of "Ukraine") have all been officially branded as "propagandists" by the Kiev regime, and their works banned, with millions of books destroyed, as being a mere "propaganda". Not literature, mind you, but "imperialist propaganda". One wonders whatever has happened to the Ukraine's pride and glory, the National Bard, Tara's Shevchenko's prose: while composing his poetry in Ukrainian, his choice of language when writing prose was Russian.
This is false. Ukraina law prohibits only russian music/books which is produced materially in the enemy state of Russia. You can freely import russian music litterature produced in Germany or Poland. It's Russia which exterminate all traces of ukrainean culture in occupied regions, and even kidnap ukrainean children for forced adoptions. War crimes.
@@ThoreVeldur How reasonable is it to say that a child has been _kidnapped_ from an orphanage so that it can grow up in a somewhat notmal family? Are those kids the property of the Ukrainian state?
That is the exact problem for the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia. They had been imposed strict language laws. Furthermore the Kiev regime wants to eradicate Hungarian culture. The Hungarian names for city's was forbidden. Cultural monuments of fx writers, poets was vandalised by thugs showing up in the ethnic Hungarian city's. The same thugs harrassed the locals, of waving with flags with rightwing symbols. A Hungarian culturecenter was arsened. Local political leaders was added to the infamous kill list Myrotvorets. I am perplexed that people outside of Ukraine can dismiss the issues that were present in places like Kherson and Odessa. I have been many times to Kherson and Odessa and there people who were raised speaking Russian first and Ukrainian second were made to feel uncomfortable to speak Russian in the street after 2014. That is a simple reality. Kiev is VERY different to Donbas, Kherson and Odessa. There are reports by Amnesty international and OSCE of kidnap, rape and murder of Ukrainians by the SBU (Ukraine secret police) which were presented to UN in 2016. These have been ignored and Amnesty International then withdrew from Ukraine. The country has become more fascist. Also there are documented instances of people being killed in Ukraine simply for being accused of being a "Russian sympathiser" based on nothing other than filming the conflict and publishing that content. All information is censored, journalists jailed and tortured, and distributed now of press releases only through Kiev, churches closed and only one political party is allowed. Men cannot leave the country since 2021. There is no freedom in Ukraine and since 2014 when the US led coup took place the economy has been wrecked, just check the UAH exchange rate.
The CIA admissions of employing former Nazi Soldiers to promote Bandera sympathy since 1950, prove that the USA was dedicated to division in Ukraine. The Area was the victim of just about every Empire that existed on this planet. Now the US Empire attempts to extend the influence of Blackrock and all the other harmful Opportunists to profit from dividing up Ukraine Real estate and degrading Russian Influence in the Region. The work of Victoria Nuland since she began to work for the Clinton Administration, indicates a clear trajectory that seemed to put Moscow in the crosshairs. The ability to obtain Majority Investor Status was apparently stopped by Russian limitations of 30% of outside investment in Russian Assets. So the effort to take Russian resources by force of military conquest, while on the surface seemed impossible, has proven to be a fact. The employment of Saakashvili as Odessa Oblast Governor in 2014, was another use of a plainly willing CIA Stooge, after his willingness to invade South Ossettia proved the useful nature of someone who had been schooled in the USA. The apparent lack of prosecution of the Thugs who were very visible at the Trade Union Fire, seemed to provide the backbone of the Azov Goons who were able to invade Mariupol in 2015. The media coverage of Maidan Events clearly show Saakashvili working with Nuland to promote the Coup. The events that appeared as the Russians began to free Mariupol showed just what type of thugs they became. Survivors report atrocities by Azov Guys all over Mariupol as they were driven into Rinat Akhmetovs Steel Mill. The intentions of the USA appear to implicate American State Department Officials as War Criminals. The ignorance of the millions of former Soviet Soldiers who settled in Donbas after WW2 seems to have allowed the illusion of some single heritage in the Ukraine region. The words of the Citizens of the region appaer to uncover the fact that there were a lot of Folks East of the Dniepro who were related to Russian Ancestors. The use of the Name Artemivsk in reference to the use of the name Ukraine designated to Bachmut, was just one apparent indication of the heritage of the region. The accurate targeting of Kyiv's Headquarters seems to suggest the Russian loyalty remains within the region. The US State Department Lies do not erase the heritage.
Nearly everything you said is a lie. If anyone felt uncomfortable speaking Russian then that is on them. It has nothing to do with anything the government was doing. The osce did not document cases of tape and torture and murder and present them to the un. The country has not become more fascist. Their are hundreds of active political parties in Ukraine.

This is my own research, feel free to disagree. Nazi war criminals were almost never put on trial for their crimes, but instead were installed in top positions in NATO, in the western German government, army, industry and western German society at large. The most famous of them was Adolf Heusinger, chief of the Operationsabteilung from 1940-1944. He was actually Hitler's chief of staff and helped plan the Nazi’s invasions of Poland, Norway, Denmark, and France. He was promoted to colonel on August 1, 1940 and became chief of the Operationsabteilung in October 1940. After the war, this German war criminal, the man who helped Hitler plan and execute his invasion of neighboring countries which directly led to the deaths of millions of people, was not even put on trial, quite contrary he was allowed to take over the newly established West German army, the "Bundeswehr". In 1961, Heusinger was made the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee (essentially he was NATO's chief of staff). He served in that capacity until 1964. General Hans Speidel, a Nazi general who was Erwin Rommel’s chief of staff during WWII. After the war he served in the Western German army and became the Supreme Commander of NATO’s ground forces in Central Europe from 1957-1963. Johannes Steinhoff, Luftwaffe fighter pilot during WWII and recipient of the Knights Cross of the Iron across (the Nazi military’s highest award), was Chairman of the NATO Military Committee 1971-1974 (among other NATO positions beforehand). Johann von Kielmansegg, General Staff officer to the High Command of the Wehrmacht 1942-1944, was NATO's Commander in Chief of Allied Forces Central Europe 1967-1968. Ernst Ferber, a Major in the Wehrmacht and group leader of the organizational department of the Supreme Command of the Army (Wehrmacht) from 1943-1945 and recipient of the Iron Cross 1st Class, was NATO's Commander in Chief of Allied Forces Central Europe from 1973-1975. Karl Schnell, battery chief in the Western campaign in 1940/later First General Staff Officer of the LXXVI Panzer Corps in 1944 and recipient of the Iron Cross 2nd Class, was NATO's Commander in Chief of Allied Forces Central Europe from 1975-1977. Franz Joseph Schulze, a Lieutenant in the reserve and Chief of the 3rd Battery of the Flak Storm Regiment 241 and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in 1944, was NATO's Commander in Chief of Allied Forces Central Europe from 1977-1979. Ferdinand von Senger und Etterlin; Lieutenant of 24th Panzer Division in the German 6th Army, participant in the Battle of Stalingrad, adjutant to Army High Command, and recipient of the German Cross in gold, was NATO's Commander in Chief of Allied Forces Central Europe 1979-1983. There were at least two dozens such former Nazi high level officers in NATO’s ranking. United States senator Harry S. Truman's statement in 1941 regarding the invasion of the Soviet Union by Nazi Germany and its allies, Italy, Hungary, Finland, and Romania: "If we see that Germany is winning, we ought to help Russia, and if Russia is winning we ought to help Germany, and that way let them kill as many as possible.” As soon as Germany was defeated, Russia immediately became the new enemy of the ruling class in Washington and London. Before the war started in 2022, even major mainstream media like BBC and VICE reported the alarming rise of Nazism in Ukraine with Nazi militias like the Right Sector, the C14 and the Azov Battalion. Those documentaries are still available on UA-cam: “Ukraine's far-right children's camp” - by The Guardian “Inside A White Supremacist Militia in Ukraine” - by TIME “Neo-Nazi threat in new Ukraine” - by BBC Newsnight Here’s the result in the UN General Assembly [Anti-Nazism Resolution] in 2021. Vote: 130-2. Against: America, Ukraine. See the picture? Some people said this proxy war in Ukraine against Russia started in 2022. Some people said it started in 2014 after the US orchestrated the Maidan coup and shelling of ethnic Russian in Donbas. Some people said it started in Bucharest in 2008, after NATO chief Jaap de Hoop Scheffer openly said he would like Georgia and Ukraine to join NATO. Some people said it started after 1991 because Victoria Nuland said the US spent 5 Billion dollars since 1991 to put Ukraine in that position (to counter Russia). But as explained by former US Marine Corps officer Carlton Meyer on his channel “Tales of the American Empire”, it started right after WW II. What is the best tool to fight Russia? Nazis.

The problem with Duleba’s position is that there is empirical evidence to the contrary, namely that 6-7 specific acts of legislation were passed that significantly restricted the use of Russian language in the media and official settings, one of which was so egregious that it was rescinded by Ukraine’s highest court. Yes, this is part of the political/cultural background - but the geopolitical background is, first off, that the new Kiev elite (an elite cultivated and "paid" by the US) willingly accepted to let America use Ukraine as a battering ram against Russia. Both because Kiev thought it would offer them a quick victory, and because they reasoned that fighting a war on behalf of the US would catapult them inside NATO and the EU, would let them skip the long and tedious processes of membership negotiations, reforms, legal adaptation and so on that are normally entailed before a country (especially an impoverished and corrupt country like Ukraine) is allowed to join either of these two blocs. And ever since February 2022, Kiev has tried to claim, again and again, that "we really are a de facto member of NATO" or that it's a matter of historical justice that they must be allowed in: "you have no right to keep us out". Both Reznikov and Zelensky have been making those pitches so many times.

A very simple technology that was done in Ukraine: they will make you a mixture of all these languages, distorting them as much as possible, then for a couple of generations they will tell you that you are the most special and most ancient race who lived in a civilized way even before the appearance of the Cro-Magnon man, and then came the barbaric, primitive tribes of French, Germans and others - occupied you, stole your civilization and culture, and rewrote your history. And everything is ready: they made Ukrainians out of you. It’s literally like the Russians who populated these lands for 1035 years, since the baptism of Rus, were made into so-called “Ukrainians”.
@@SirWilliamDeHooton Typical Russian, telling other people what to do. Well in the hated West we have freedom. As long as this dreadful you tube channel exists I will mock it.
There is one very strong point that the West tends not to see. What lessons did Soviet leaders learn from the German invasion of the USSR? The lesson was very simple: that the war could start "out of the blue" for some reasons not connected directly with you or your policy. For several months the Soviets registered German concentrations at their borders combined with utter diplomatic silence. There were no demands or grievances said. Simply inexorable movement of troops to Soviet borders. From the Putin's point of view he sees exactly this: an inexorable movement of the new and new NATO bases to Russian borders. The situation of a boiled frog. Now everyone in the west very conveniently tends to forget that right before the invasion there were security talks between Putin and NATO, and NATO refused to make any even smallest concession. What Putin demanded from Ukraine? Neutrality status. Absence of any NATO bases. He got only categorical refusal as a response. Hence his reaction. It may be considered foolish, clumsy or even idiotic. But you can't say it's totally unfounded. And the West knew exactly what it was doing. No doubts.
That's rich coming from a Slovak professor. When the Slovaks had to fight for their language under Austrian Hungary. He would be for the Germanization of his people, culture. And at that time there wasn't much of Slovak culture.
So Duleba wouldn't object if Slovak language was gradually aboilished in Czechoslovakia and he wouldn't feel "humiliated" if Slovak language was banned in schools because the capital of Czechoslovakia was Prague, not Bratislava? And he was called an "imperialist" for defending the rights of Slovak speakers he wouldn't feel offended?
Bravo and thank you professor Petro. Nice to know there are brave people like Ruslan Kotsaba. Will someone ever stop this madness? Can't we just all be respectful humans and get alone with each other no matter color of skin, no matter nationality and origins? This world would be a much better place then. If you study the economic effects that created the conflicts, you begin to notice a thread. The Western nations have run out of resources. The Communist ones appear to have retained a lot of essential elements. When we view those effects we begin to discover what might be motivating the Masters at War?

Just to remind - there are 37 official languages in Russia. Because Russia has made an absolutely tremendous improvement in understanding and accepting its rich cultural heritage. Ukraine is similar - its a multicultural country however its doing the opposite and is trying very hard to become a monoculture and monolanguage country. Lets take Crimea - since Russians took over Crimea back in 2014 they made Tatar language the official language equal to Russian and Ukrainian. This pacified any cultural issues in Crimea and in fact, improved the relationship between the different groups of people. Ukrainians have never done that and have no interest in doing that.
Well its not just Russian. The new education laws in Ukraine make it near impossible for ethnic Hungarians in Tanscarpathia to undertake many (if any) high school subjects in their own language. So its not just about being bilingual. This has been one of the main drivers in the growing animosity between Budapest and Kyiv, and therefore a major roadblock for Ukraine's EU membership ambitions.
Ethno-Nationalism is toxic where ever it raises its ugly head. There just are no "pure" nation-states possible in Eurasia (and Africa, too, for that matter) if they are supposed to be larger than a few square kilometres because of the super high heterogeneity of its populations. Petro points that out strongly in his writings that the only viable solution for Ukraine (but it goes for other states too) is a civic Ukrainian identity, not a ethno-national one. Never mind the language or origins, everyone can be Ukrainian as long as they identify with the nation. That's how other multi-cultural and multi-lingual states work successfully, too.
Well, the suppression of just the Russian language, which is, by the way, native to at least 70% of the Ukrainian people, wouldn't be a roadblock for the EU membership, would it? After all, Latvia and Estonia are both the EU members and both have been, and still are, discriminative against their Russian population and suppressing the Russia language for 30 years.

Disturbing to hear Petro say Russia's military operation is not justified, destroys his credibility as an analyst and reduces him to a data accumulator. Russia is not only doing the necessary thing, it is doing the right thing. For many academics and pols expressing that is a bridge too far. History will show that in 2022 there was a rampant USA that had been marching around the globe for the previous 75 years causing mayhem while it's racist voting age citizens partied, bought houses, made $, watched TV, ignored their kids and complained about taxes. Then they messed with Russia, and Russia knocked them back on their heels like you do a schoolyard bully. This is heroic national behavior that should be lauded but apparently Petro can't wrap his mind around standing up to power. You are supposed to suffer the bully. It's mind numbing how people who acknowledge US imperialism, acknowledge Ukrainian oppression of their own Russian people, acknowledge US malfeasance all over the world for decades, cannot dare to acknowledge the good Russia is accomplishing. They knocked out the German Nazis, now they are straightening out the US, both of whom were supposed to kick their butts. As a US citizen sick of waiting for my fellow Americans to stop our military adventures I absolutely applaud the Russians, for the good of my country.

As a Canadian, official bilingualism and multiculturalism are natural, even sacrosanct, to me. Strangely, I’ve heard no Canadian politician defend Russian-speaking Ukrainians on the same basis that they defend Quebec’s right to determine its own language and cultural policies. I don’t know if it’s blindness, stupidity, or hypocrisy.
@davmcintosh5210 - Having just read your lines above I find myself in total agreement. Regarding your last question though - given what we have come to know of our Government in how it sometimes speaks without having thought things through thoroughly, I'd go with their stupidity...AND...their Hypocrisy.
There is no "Ukrainian" Language! The Galichan Mova is NOT "Ukrainian". It is a tiny minority dialect, which is native to Galicia and was imposed by decree of the Supreme Soviet of Ukraine in 1989. They have been replacing the native language of Ukraine since 1989, on purpose, to create a new artificial nation.
The presence of Saakashvili in Odessa as the beating of burning bodies falling from the Trade Union Building Fare seemed to get dramatic coverage in media, now is forgotten. Saakashvili standing alongside Victoria Nuland in Maidan Square passing out Candy and Guns seemed to imply that Victoria was not promoting peaceful transition in Ukraine, any more than her effects aywhere in the Balkans in the last 30 years. This Conflict is all Hers, the credit as well as the War Crime Indictments are deserved to be applied to Her as she represents the wishes of Wall Street. China has recognized ethnic groups that has protected status. Like the Uyghurs. Which means their culture, language and religion are all protected, and must be allowed to be taught in school and freely practiced. Yes Uyghur children are taught both their mother tongue and Mandarin Chinese which is necessary for them to participate in the country's economy. As a Ukrainian which is raised in South-Eastern part of Ukraine, I have a couple of arguments for Alexander Duleba: - I was studying in Russian class at school. I had x2 times more Russian lessons than of Ukrainian. - I voted 2 times for president election programme that asserted Russian language as the official language of the state. The demand for Russian language to be recognized was tremendous. - I was working at high school in admission commitee of university. This was the time when the Ukrainian government accepted the law to make Russian language only accepted in some regions of Ukraine. It was allowed to accept documents for university application in Russian. However, it didnt happen. There was bureaucracy to avoid such cases. - I had 2 friends which were killed (or detained) by Ukrainian nationalist in the 2nd of May on 2014. All of them wanted to have Russian language as an official one. Very many Russian speaking people resorted to supporting Russia not because people dream of Stalin or Putin. Ukrainians didnt want to provide the respect and rights for us to speak our own language. If Ukrainians had accepted Russian language as an official one, the war wouldnt have happened. Putin wouldnt have got any argument to "defend Russian speakers".
Your identification of Stalin with Putin is inappropriate. They are completely different people and political leaders. Although personally I respect both of them. And yeah, for a Russian speakers you understand the reasons for this conflict quite poorly.
@@MrDY888 Mentioning of Stalin and Putin is just a hyperbole to make an anti-thesis for Western media. Calling my understanding `poor` is a bold move from your side. However, the burden of justification lies on you to prove that. Let's say, in 2003 I received quite a strange gift - the book given by NATO officer which described the structure of organization. I clearly remember NATO ships and military drills in Ukraine with NATO soliders.
As a Ukrainian, I really appreciate how deeply Nikolai Petro studied the issue. He did not stop at the surface and did not repeat Ukrainian propaganda, but he did not repeat Russian propaganda either. This language issue is a real problem. Recently there was a scandal when a Ukrainian teacher accused the soldiers of speaking Russian... they just told her to f*** *** and society supported them. This is a good sign.
One of the main reasons of the conflict: after USSR collapsed - Ukraine has got regions that has absolutely no relation to the "ukranian etnos" - eastern and southern provices were never speaking urkanian language, or has identified themselves with ukranial culture. For 30 years the curse for urkanization of these provices took place and after american inspired "maidan" in 2014 (see JFK interview to Tucker Carlson for example) where usa officals pay 500000000 to enspire coup de etat in ukrain - the "ukranazation" of these provices intensifies, that causes a civil war, where all current 'actors' got their roles, Russia on one side, Usa and its colonies on another...
Czechoslovakia was once called Bohemia. Western portion were western Slavs and eastern portion was eastern Slavs. There has always been minor tribal differences in that part of Europe for centuries.
The Ukrainian state today is a developing NAZI state. All the comments about language and schools coming from Ukraine via that Slovakian man ARE Nazi Concepts…certainly following the definition of that word that I use: A Nazi State is by definition and by law and custom systemically racist. A Nazi state is a state which is, officially, extreme ethno nationalist and uses violence or intimidation to exclude members of other ethnicities or national identities by any means possible. It is only fascist to the extent that fascism gives the government the unquestioned authority to maintain its policy of marginalising and excluding everyone who is not ethnically “pure”. And yes, I know; it could be Israel I’m talking about too.In Ukraine I expect there are more plans even than we were told here to somehow or other get rid of ethnic Russians in The East and replace them with “real”Ukrainians.,you know, Lebensraum and all that…
In Italy we are not the best democracy in the world but in any case in regions where there are multiple languages in schools the use of different languages is allowed even during lessons. For example, in Trentino Alto Adige you can speak at school and even hold lessons in three languages: Italian, German and Ladin. It is not the language that makes the cultural identity of a nation!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. It is really interesting to hear this, especially the way Duleba frames the situation. Under this mental outlook, one can justify anything against the minority populations. Very scary.

The problem is that one of the language has the name of the country and the other has the name of the next one. Can we imagine Belgium with one of the two language labeled as "true Belgian" and the other as "invader language". It's the case in Ukraine.
I dont see what is so controversial about this podcast and why Slovakian media refused to broadcast it. This is promoting a greater understanding of an issue that most of us barely appreciate.
Ruslan Kotsaba is native western Ukrainian. He was born in Ivano-Frankivs'k region which is the most nationalistic region along with Lviv's oblast of Ukraine. In spite of the fact of his origin he is the most adequately thinking dude from the west I know. Thanks a lot for this channel Pascal! With every episode I'm learning more about the Ukrainian conflict! Especially with experts like Nicolai Petro! As a humanitarian volunteer I am visiting the country on a regular base but always stay below the radar of (official) political life. I keep my eyes and ears open and listen. Trying to tune in to the feelings, emotions and opinions of the ordinary people in their daily life. I sense a rapid shift in the last months to a negative and worried mood. Things are not going well and most people realise there is difficult times ahead... My heart is ALWAYS with the people, the vast majority that (as so often) is neglected, humiliated and abused by the powers that be... Let me finish with a small remark on Duleba. I got the sense that he is talking from this typical nationalist or even revisionist perspective that is lingering around everywhere in Central and Eastern Europe. The subject of minorities is a very sensitive topic for Slovakia given the ongoing tensions with a large group of ethnic Hungarians and their (language) rights. This has a historical component too, because of the suppression of the Slovaks by the Hungarians between 1867 and 1918 that ended with the, from Hungarian perspective, traumatic treaty of Trianon. In every nation that was under direct or indirect Soviet control these suppressed emotions play a huge role which is often underestimated or overlooked. It also explains the position of the country when it comes to the recognition of Kosovo. Slovakia is one of the five EU countries which never acknowledged the independence of Kosovo. This is seen as an open invitation to their own minorities to steer up trouble... Big regards and best wishes from the Netherlands!
"Zelensky is from the eastern part of Ukraine! Hi cant do bad things to the east of Ukraine!" - great argument (not). Lets not go in to any details - his from the east therefore his good.

Obviously Alexander Duleba has never been to Switzerland, otherwise he wouldn't make these nonsensical comments. France tried for years to eradicate the German language in Alsace, which created a lot of resentments. It is deeply humiliating when you try to destroy the local identity. Duleba thinks and speaks like an ultra-nationalist.
Imagine speaking one of the rirchest language on earth (Russian) and being forced to speak a language which close to nothing jad been written or translated.
This was a fine example of journalistic endeavour to explore competing issues. However I missed a focus on the other significant ethnic minorities. For example I have heard the Hungarian Foreign minister voice his unhappiness about the treatment of Ukraine’s ethnic Hungarians and in respect to that I could hardly imagine a successful outcome of Ukraine application to join.
That appears to be pretty visible today. Oban did enjoy cheap Fuel from Russia as well. The West was selling about 20% of European Fuel before 2020. The Russian were about to deliver close to 70% of demand. Who do you suppose blew up Nordstream? The LNG Producers were projecting a $200 billion revenue increase if Russia could be eliminated. How many times do we need to discuss this effect.
Ukraine cannot join the EU, if they has this law.. it is forbidden to speak Russian. do you know that Zelensky is Russian speaking and has to learn to speak Ukrainian. When he became a President…he is a Acteur…that is his profession..Why is this a language a problem . .? In Belgium , they are speaking a kind of Dutch (Vlaams) in the Nord , and in the south French.. they have no problem, in the end everybody speaks 2 languages..😂
The government is the SERVANT of the people not the other way round so the government has to provide services in all major languages to promote and persuade the voting population of the validity of its policies to ensure they get re-elected.

Those documentaries are still available on UA-cam:

Nazis.
Good list of examples...
Awesome painstaking documentation. Western hostility towards Russia never ended with the end of the Cold War. 👌
Why should a Soviet focused organization have been kept alive after the Soviet Union and Russia had been stripped off its Western buffer space. Militarizing that in-your-face space was obviously a chiing threat for Russia.
This is an awesome explanation of "after the battle"...I didn't realize the prevalence of all those guys in German politics after the war. I did notice just about everybody in Europe involved with this ukraine fiasco had soldiers in the waffen SS. The summer offensive seems on par with "operation citadel".
Remind us how many Russian war criminals have been put on trial for their crimes.

¡Excelente episodio! Muchas gracias por dar espacio al periodismo independiente, no propagandístico. Siempre sigo sus episodios, son una luz en medio de este período obscuro de la posverdad.
The problem with Duleba’s position is that there is empirical evidence to the contrary, namely that 6-7 specific acts of legislation were passed that significantly restricted the use of Russian language in the media and official settings, one of which was so egregious that it was rescinded by Ukraine’s highest court. Even the EU courts, pre 24/02/22, admonished Ukraine over its language policy

Very recently a very young boy was spotted singing a song by a famous Soviet singer Visotsky sonewhere in Lviv. And he got arrested, insulted, abused and threatened. Some government representative called him a traitor and told him he is a 3d class citizen. So the problem in Ukraine is very real.
No wonder Ukraine "understands " Israel. Ukraine and Israel are striving for a homogeneous getto 😢 ( no pun attended). How this modern getto would have been different from the past getto. The entrance to the getto would be saying:

Excellent! I missed a longer interview with Ruslan Kotsaba.
Thank you. Excellent program. Language laws in Ukraine make news sometimes, usually with banning something .
This is a verry educated comment as far as I understand the situation.
Well they can make pitches but they wont enter ever. The thank you letters should be sent to Orban, who stands up to their blackmailing.
@@gaborrajnai6213 Orban is completely right, but Kiev have been relying on support from the US and its clients & hangarounds to boost and push their claims through (the US is "the man behind the curtain" in EU/NATO politics).

Duleba sounds like he just woke up in Germany in 1935
"As an Ukrainian you should be forced to learn Ukrainian"
So, tell me as a Swiss what shall I be forced to learn ?
I was taught French as I lived in the French speaking region - and German, but not even Swiss-German, no, we were taught hochdeutsch, as used in Germany...
We have 3 national languages, in every region everything is written in the 3 languages. Buy some orange juice and you can learn from reading description in those 3.
And now, we had so much immigration that more than 23% of people living here do not even have one of the official languages as a main language...
That "Duleba" is a political activist of the very dangerous kind.
This is fascinating! Thank you for the education!
Welcome! Thanks for the support!

Great episode. Thank you!
And, yes, wars don't resolve issues. Look at the Balkans, they still hate each other. Talking to each other and compromising is a much better solution.
If you study the economic effects that created the conflicts, you begin to notice a thread.
The Western nations have run out of resources.
The Communist ones appear to have retained a lot of essential elements.

Duleba is lying. I belong to the Russian-speaking Greek minority of Mariupol (by the way, do you know that this city as well as 26 villages on the coast of the Azov Sea and the Don Basin (DonBass) were founded by the Greeks who came from Crimea after the Russo-Turkish wars? It was Catherine 2 who bequeathed them these lands of the Russian Empire around 1776). During the USSR, Ukrainian lessons - language and literature - were compulsory at school. It wasn't easy for us children, whose parents spoke local Greek and Russian, but we learned it, considering it as an additional asset. And we sang Ukrainian folk songs, and we danced Gopak...
After the Maidan of 2014 they banned teaching in Russian in schools. They forbade children to speak Russian - their native language! - even during recess. You realize? [Can you imagine a coup d'état, let's say..... Corsican (or Breton, or else, whatever ) in Paris after which French children will no longer be able to study in French but in Corsican, Breton or other ??? ] And they displayed the portraits of Bandera and Shukhevich in the hall of MY school on the board honoring "prominent politicians of Ukraine." Disgusting. For 9 years my compatriots lived heads down and mouths shut. It is now finished. Mariupol is back home.

Even the German Nazis did not forbid speaking their native language. Many opposition leaders were killed in public. Thousands and thousands of people have been taken away by the security services and no one else knows what's wrong with them. Those who managed to escape from hell were lucky.

As a Ukrainian which is raised in South-Eastern part of Ukraine, I have a couple of arguments for Alexander Duleba:
- I was studying in Russian class at school.

I cannot say that I share his ideals, but I admit that his civic position and professionalism as a journalist deserve respect.
Informative.
His location shouldn't have been revealed in my opinion.
Ruslan Kotsaba is native western Ukrainian. He was born in Ivano-Frankivs'k region which is the most nationalistic region along with Lviv's oblast of Ukraine. In spite of the fact of his origin he is the most adequately thinking dude from the west I know. I don't understand how come you invited another guy from Slovakia to have second opinion about the situation in Ukraine. Do you think he knows better than Ukrainian about it? Yeah... Right. You're trying to convey the same western propaganda here. Russians are evil and Ukrainians (western puppets) are all victims. They are just heavily brainwashed for 30+ years by their governments that's all. It will take time to get back to normal for Ukrainians.
You are unfair. It’s good to present another view, reflecting true Ukrainian nationalism, especially in such an inept way . So people should know exactly what it means in practice.
@@vulgarisopinio Both of you forget that several times in history the Ukraianian language was suppressed by the Russian Empire, Even under the soviet Union as part of the Russification program it was banned, so too in the polish part of Ukraine.. Also towns and cities were originally settled by Ukrainian settlers and not Russian, after their conquest Russian immigrants were brought in. There is always some truth behind the Nationalist ideas, Though it is true that apart from a few ultra nationalists in the west both Russian and Ukrainian speakers got along well prior to 2014.
Even after 2014 the two breakaway republics simply wanted more autonomy. their referenda were not about breaking away,

Not true that "towns and cities were originally settled by Ukrainian settlers". It was Lenin who joined mostly Russian areas south and east from Odessa to Kharkov line, to the newly created Soviet republic and imposed forced ukrainization.
@@georgesibley7152utterly wrong. Ukrainian language was the language af peasants. When Lenin attached industrial cluster of donbass, Bolsheviks started the program of ukrainisation. Also Bolsheviks created literature pattern of Ukrainian language, supported book printing of contemporary Ukrainian writers.
@@georgesibley7152also, most of the cities of eastern, central and southern ukraine were founded by Russian empire while wars with Crimea and Osmans. Older cities are part of both russian and ukrainian legacy.
thnxs for the great report
Most countries have more than 1 official language . In Canada we have 2 English and French despite the Majority of people speaking English wevhave engish Schools and french schools and nobody is forced to learn either language .Basic french is compulsary up to and including 9th grade but after that its completely optional
Despite there being only 2 official languages many public institutions including finiancial and Goverment institutions offer services and severla different languages including Spanish Arabic Hindu and Mandarin and in some regions Nigerian and Somali .
Why not Inuit, Lakota, and Iroquois?
Yeah, except in Quebec English is restricted by bill 88
Crazy channel!!😊😊
Superb commentaries by Nikolai Petro
Very interesting!!
In Czechoslovakia, the Czechs should have cleansed the Slovak language, culture. 👍
They already cleansed German and Hungarian cultures in 1945-1949
Thanks a lot for this channel Pascal!
Big regards and best wishes from the Netherlands!
thank you
I am become quit used to watching your shows as you have interesting subjects etc from Australia
"Zelensky is from the eastern part of Ukraine! Hi cant do bad things to the east of Ukraine!" - great argument (not). Lets not go in to any details - his from the east therefore his good.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag! Many happy returns of the day, Pascal! Have a wonderful year ahead and keep up the good work. 🎂🎉🎊🎁 It is still Dec 13 in the USA!
Mr. Duleba is a great intellectual disappointment. He should not resort to lies. He also knows nothing about geopolitics.
Thank you for showing your "chauvinism"
I'm a lover of slavic languages, but Ukrainian sounds like a Russian spoken by an orc. Bliznets is bliznyuk, mladenets - malyuk. How ugly us that?
Excellent
There's no way Ukraine would be allowed to join the EU with the approach outline in the video.
Zelensky is a Joker !!
@@raulnicolaueffgen5556 Putin made the situation far worse by ordering the murder of so many civilians and massively increasing the pre-existing hatred. Pretty much what the Israelis are doing now. All parties will pay for that and round we go again. Morons the lot of them.
