What is the Real Reason Behind Inflation? Who Benefits the Most from Those Hurt the Most?

- We were taught in schools and universities what causes inflation and why. But is that the truth or is there a deeper darker reason for the sudden rise in inflation here in the US?
As an old retired, empty nester guy, I am so very blessed that my total bills every month (for housing insurance, upkeep and utilities, not including food), is around $600.00.
In 2018, I bought a fixer upper duplex here in Wichita, Kansas for only $1500.00...yes, 15 HUNDRED not 15 THOUSAND! My little nest is just a small 1 bedroom, with a fenced yard...nothing fancy....but big enough for me and my 2 Dog-Children who are still at home.... but I like it!

I thank the good lord we paid off our home just six months after I retired in 2015.Yet we still have taxes and upkeep, utilities and assesments. We are thankful for our blessings. 😊

Lucky. Could have a paid off house but moved 3 times since widowed so have 23 years left on mortgage. No point in paying extra unless something changes.

I grew up in the 70's during the oil embargo. I remember when gas, groceries, and most other things went up dramatically. The times we are living in now are different and similar.
Remember stagflation, Fed Chairman Paul Volker, and mortgage rates? Far worse back then.
Has everyone else noticed the big increases in Car/Home/Health insurance prices?
Oh yes, mine went way up too.
My homeowners ins. increased around 16-18% in 2022 & another 4% this year. Auto ins. premiums continue to increase each year, but my cars are another year older which should result in lower claim exposure.
For me it’s worse this time because it’s more of us. More food, more fuel, clothes , animal food, utilities, healthcare, etc….
Living In 2023 is getting harder. Too many small businesses closing since they can’t keep up with expenses. That stimulus is long spent and gone !!! I sure don’t have any of it left. The Squeeze is on,
Our children and grandchildren suffer the consequences in their present and future.

I was born in 1978. Too young to understand. My dad told me stories. Getting gas on certain days depending on your license plate number. Odd vs. Even numbers. Had to siphon gas out my moms car that wouldnt start to put in his get to work. Thanks Mr. Tom! Praying for better times. All we have 😊😊😊

Born in 1965. Yes, your dad is spot on. I remember the gas shortage and state of the economy then. Tuna noodle casserole four days a week. The way things are going it's going to be worse than the 70's.

I would love to hear yours&Smokey's thoughts about all this push on EV cars etc. and how it's a"pipe dream" to put it nicely😏, and in my opinion, it isn't realistic or sustainable and on and on. When you go food shopping in the UK it's like your walking into a nightmare. It's shocking when you get the bill the whole world is a mess

I agree with everything you said about inflation Mr. Tom. I'd also like to add that 2021 and 2022 really showed us the deficiencies in a lot of businesses --food, transport, staffing, wages, financial management. Many, as we know, were hurt financially and most are trying to recoup their losses +. In my area, eyes were opened about how little money has been spent on infrastructure and plans in place for disasters and the like. Recently property owners noticed assessments were considerably higher on their property and property taxes were triple. People are upset and rightly so, but no one cares. The banks tell people to sell --the community has so few properties for sale right now. Rent in almost all the apartments available went up $300-500/mo 2023 going into 2024. I took a trip to the Walmart today to buy a few groceries. I really had to pick and choose. I bought hamburger for chili only because I can get several meals out of it. $5.58 for a pound of hamburger. The weather here in Indiana is taking a turn for the worse and I wanted to be prepared.

Minimum wage in my state of MA is 15.00 per hour with no experience … some places start at 17.00 per hour !!! When I had my first real job I got paid 2.00 per hour !!!

My first job as an RN in 1974 was $5.10 per hour.
When I was as 12, I made 2.00 buck an hour working at a convenience store. That was back in ‘85. I’m self employed now and I make 30.00 an hour plus profit. Minimum wage in my area is 16.00.

Hi Mr. Tom. It is a wonder where these inflation figures are pulled out from. My brother just got notice that his insurance premiums are going up 25%. His home and car are bundled for discount as well as AARP discount and he's never made a claim! My husband and I have a different insurance company, but I am sure we will be getting similar notification. I think that is an outrageous increase! These big companies get away with this sort of thing and there is really no recourse as I am sure all insurance companies will follow suit. Thanks for your video. A lot of home owners&car insurance companies have closed business in Florida after hurricanes Ian. The costs to replace homes&cars/building materials&car parts have gone up and the supply isn't available or months/years if they get them at all. Doesn't help that most of it is imported...
The UA-cam channel Valuetainment just did a report about the increase in insurance premiums. They used the state of Florida as the example. Homeowners insurance went up by several hundred percent and the reasons some insurance companies are no longer wanting to do business in different places.
@aletahallemeier 1972 I recently asked my insurance agent about all these rate hikes. I was checking have had homeowners with this company greater than 20 years. Added my car last year. He said my insurance would not increase this year. He said these rate hikes are mostly in blue states. No plans to increase our rates.

My cat heard Spooky meowing as I'm watching. She's looking around trying to find the source. 😹. I'm already planning for spring garden. I've ordered (and saved) my seeds, getting fertilizer, etc. I'll probably be doing more canning and freezing next week. I'm also determined to keep my utilities down as long as possible. My goal for 2024 is to slash grocery bills by growing as much as possible and prepping for hard(er) times. I'm getting eggs from my chickens so that helps....not that it's cheaper mind you, but it's a resource that I control. By next summer, I hope to be able to cut down on the expense by feeding them more from the garden. Keep prepping guys.

1972 I graduated high school went to work for 1.35 a hour. 35.00a week before taxes. Roosevelt started all this with the new deal at the time wonderful idea but should have been cut back after the economy improved. The rich runs our country, they have the money, which is power in our country which is sad

Yes EVs are a lie. They don’t have the infrastructure (wires on the poles) to support the electric power EVs need if everyone had one. Never mind the oil power or coal it would take for that type of power.

Inflation now is frequently caused because of world prices not national prices. People have cut back so much on spending that I’m seeing prices for some things dipping back to 8yrs ago. Turkeys are at $0.29-$0.39lb. But boxed stuffing I bought for $0.75 is now $2.50. There is a store brand of stuffing on sale this week for $0.50 but it’s to far away for me to justify traveling that far. Might skip stuffing this year. Already quit bread, except occasional tortillas (lol, not the chips). It’s mostly rice and sale pasta. With potatoes dropping in price, I’m thinking of switching out of pasta to potatoes. Definitely going more to cheaper priced food with good nutrition. Not much processed. Eat beef once a month when hamburger goes to $2.99lb or less. Haven’t had steak or a roast in over 2 years. 🤦♀️
The pendulum swings in new directions such as My cousin worked for a major auto mfg company who employed near people. He talked to a friend last week to a friend who also worked there. That friend has a son who is working there now. Since AI they now only have to employ 300 people to work the line. Good paying jobs are near impossible to find.

I remember in the 1980s in Canada, interest rates on my mortgage were 16 1\4 %. And our income wasn't the greatest either. Sold my first home, too pricey. It
Cost53,900.00$ . Didn't lose any money on it , but didn't make any money on it. My second home was a town house condo for $40,000.00 with a pool and outdoor parking. That was 1985. Sold that few years
Later for $65,000.00 . Bought 2 more houses after that. Last home is worth 700,000.00$. See how house prices keep going up! Crazy!
Canada is the new Venezuela.. in 8 yrs we’ve doubled the dept and according to PP it will now take 3 generations to pay off a mortgage at current wages🤮

Some economists are saying that there's only one realistic reason for this inflation, Mr Tom, and I wish that the reason they've given for it was logical. Unfortunately, it's not. They're saying that manufacturers/producers are raising prices for one reason. *Because they can.* All the "reasons" those manufacturers/producers give for why they "have" to raise prices (bad weather, supply chain issues, viruses, gas prices, etc.) are baloney. The true bottom line regarding what has caused this inflation (and the "law" of supply and demand has nothing to do with it) can be summed up in one word. G.r.e.e.d. (And that doesn't mean that we consumers are the greedy ones!) And yet -- in 2017 -- whoever was president then did something that really didn't help. He gave a trillion dollar tax cut to -- who else? The 1% wealthiest people in the nation. That freed up a lot of the wealth of the wealthiest. Freed it up for what? Why -- to lend to the government! And they make interest on that money that they lend to the government too. What you and Spooky (smart kitty!) have done is what we all need to do. Follow. The. Money. Very smart!!!

Now that the "Big Three" is coming to an agreement, prices will rise more; not only vehicle prices, but everyone else will want more too. My husband put in 33 years at one of the "Big Three ". Every time there was a raise, prices went up elsewhere. Now, mind you, not everyone agreed to these raises because we knew what the outcome would entail. We really weren't ahead. It was the union showing off their political power and who they could buy. We can't blame the government for everything because we certainly help the inflation increase as well.
Here's another depressing one...we got our first snowflakes today, yuck!!! Send some warmer weather to Michigan, Mr. Tom ❤
