You could see Loki's face as Thor said it was the best that they split cause Loki wanted it. Loki realized at that moment that he didn't want to be apart from his brother.*

So, not many people know this, but Marvel has confirmed, that in the Avengers, Loki WAS being controlled by the Chitauri, (but only partly which is why his eyes went the same kind of blue as the others) which is why his eyes were blue, rather than green ( and if you take a look at Thor the Dark World, in the menu of the DVD, you see that, Marvel DOES make it a POINT, that Loki's eyes are green, and not blue like Tom Hiddleston's) and if you look very closely, when he is fighting for, on the top of Stark Tower, in the first Avengers movie, during the close up on their faces, you see a tear rolling down his cheek. It's sad, but the only explanation, for that, would be that the real Loki inside, was trying to get out, and that was his desperate plea, to Thor.
