    Happy birthday Kevin pleased you had a great day. Yes I remember that one with the Country Collectors & in the end the police came & sided with them fortunately, as it could of been a lot worse. They tried scamming them charging for drinks etc they didn't have on the boat if I remember correctly. One of the vendor/boat guys also attacked their friend forcibly pushing him. On the way their cab driver stopped where she had friends & they said it was closed & pointed them to a different location too.

      Yikes! Yes, that’s right, I do remember seeing the video where they talked about that. It’s unfortunate that there are people who try to scam like that 😕

    las autoridades locales deberian de estar al tanto de estas formas de extorcion, pero nos hemos acostumbrado y fondeado todo tipo de corrupcion y nos espantan para estar quietos, domados.

      This was actually in November back when we both still had jobs and weren’t so worried about money. But this was a super affordable experience considering it was shared costs with friends.

    Xochimilco es muuuuuuucho más que eso. No solamente son borracheras que hacen los jóvenes y en las que hasta la vida arriesgan; pues las trajineras (no son canoas) son transportes turísticos en los que hay que observar reglas de seguridad. Han muerto ahogados muchos que se han emborrachado. Xochimilco es un lugar de tradición y de mucha Historia. Sería bueno que se documentaran sobre cada lugar que visitan. Nada dijeron sobre el significado del nombre, por qué es emblemático el ajolote (sólo dijeron que está en peligro de extinción y que aparece en el billete de 50 pesos). No mencionaron la comida, ni todas las películas del Cine Mexicano que se han filmado ahí; no mencionaron que hace años las trajineras se adornaban con flores naturales y se formaba con flores también el nombre de la festejada o la cortejada. No mencionaron la Isla de las Muñecas y por qué existe ahí; no mencionaron las chinampas ni cuál es su función; en fin, se olvidaron de lo principal. Ni siquiera mencionaron el significado de su nombre en lengua Náhuatl. No es un lugar para Spring-breakers ¿eh?

    Thanks for the tips! Is that how they pronounce Axolotl there? Like Ajo-lo-te. I’ve been pronouncing it as A-sho-lotL. With the SH sound for X and the typical TL pronunciation in Nahuatl?

    • @EatBailaTravel
      @EatBailaTravel  7 місяців тому

      🤭you’re probably right! We’ve heard it pronounced ajo-lo-te more often so that’s what we’ve been saying but just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s “correct”. It’s a Spanish pronunciation of the Nahuatl word.

      Fly into Mexico City, as I’m sure you already know. Then you can request an Uber or Didi to Embarcadero Nativitas.

      I love that you asked 🙂 both words, elote & axolote, are originally Nahuatl words (elotl & axolotl), one of Mexico’s indigenous languages. That’s why they sound similar
